About the role

Become a vital part of our 70th Anniversary! We're looking for a passionate volunteer to join our 4-person Philanthropy and Special Events team for 6 months. Work directly with our Special Events Manager, gaining practical experience as you help deliver a spectacular 70th-anniversary drinks reception for high-value audiences on November 26th 2025 in central London, set to raise £30,000 to ensure the sustainability of our services for years to come.

Key Duties: 

• Research and identify companies and individuals to approach for silent auction prize donations for our 70th-anniversary event, which aims to raise £30,000 to support children and adults with complex needs.
• Contact potential prize donors via email and phone.
• Accurately log all donor communications and prize details on team files and our database.
• Collect key prize information (descriptions, terms, expiry dates) and arrange/coordinate delivery of prizes and vouchers for the event.
• Assist with essential event administration, including creating name badges, inputting guest access and dietary requirements onto a central system, and compiling guestlists onto a check-in system.
• Option to provide event day support on the evening of November 26th in central London.
• Opportunity to gain insight into other areas of event management based on interest, such as invitation concept development, donor stewardship, or drafting communications.
• Maintain a confidential, sensitive, and discrete approach to personal, sensitive, and organisational information.
• Be prepared to assist with various tasks as needed to support event delivery.

The role will involve:

• Helping Sense to raise vital funds to support people with complex needs, via gold standard Special Events.
• Representing the organisation in a positive professional manner, supporting the vision that no one is left out of life.

This role would suit you if you’re: 

• Experienced in working in an office environment or have or are working towards a qualification in event or project management.

Who they are

Citizens Advice Richmond is a local charity that has helped the people of Richmond since 1940. They offer generalist advice on any issue and specialist debt advice. Citizens Advice Richmond is a member of the national Citizens Advice service, a network of around 300 local advice centres.

The role What will you do?

● Complete an introduction for your role.

● Maintain an awareness of how the local Citizens Advice is operating.

● Read papers for board meetings and attend six board meetings per year.

● Work on specific projects with other trustees or staff within the local Citizens Advice to further the strategic objectives of the local Citizens Advice.

● Provide support and assistance to the Chair and the Chief Officer in carrying out their responsibilities, acting as a ‘critical friend’ and sounding board.

● Take on specific responsibilities delegated by the Chair, e.g., supporting new trustees with their induction.

● Carry out the Chair’s duties in their absence, with the acknowledgment of the board as being capable and suitable to do so.

● Be prepared to take over as Chair in the near future.

● Be open to approaches, where appropriate, from other trustees about the work or judgment of the Chair. The Vice Chair will then discuss any issues arising with the Chair or National Citizens Advice.

● Take an active role in discussions during board meetings and work with other trustees to:

● Set policy and strategy direction, set targets, and evaluate the performance of the local Citizens Advice.

● Seek the views of all sections of the community and monitor how well the service meets the needs of the local community.

● Ensure that the service plans for the recruitment and turnover of staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

• Recording day-to-day financial transactions in our accounting software
• Processing payments in and out (accounts payable and receivable)
• Reconciling bank accounts and balance sheet items
• Preparing simple financial reports like profit & loss statements and balance sheets
• Keeping an eye on our cash flow and supporting budgeting and forecasting
• Helping with payroll and making sure things like PAYE and National Insurance are sorted

About Mast Cell Action

Mast Cell Action is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals living with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), raising awareness, advancing understanding through education and resources and advocating for better recognition and treatment of MCAS within the medical community and the wider world.

Our stories are a key part of our community support, providing validation and reassurance to those living with MCAS, their families and carers, and helping to advocate for their needs to the medical professionals who look after them.

Main purposes of role

We are seeking a Volunteer Stories Writer to join our Community Stories team. You will play a vital role in capturing and sharing the lived experiences of individuals with MCAS. This project aims to provide a voice to those affected, helping both the MCAS community and medical professionals better understand the real-world impact of the condition.

Key tasks

• Collate emailed stories submitted by community members living with MCAS.

• Transcribe, edit, and proofread stories with accuracy and sensitivity.

• Adapt patient stories for different audiences, ensuring an empathetic and engaging tone for the MCAS community and a more structured, medical-focused version for healthcare professionals.

• Maintain high standards of spelling, grammar, and clarity in all written content.

• Work closely with the Community Support Coordinator to ensure consistency and alignment with the charity’s goals.

• Upload approved stories to the charity’s website.

Skills and Experience 

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail.

• Ability to write with empathy and sensitivity to the challenges faced by individuals with MCAS.

• Experience in storytelling, journalism, or content writing.

• Ability to adapt narratives for different audiences, particularly medical professionals.

The regular updating of our Community Stories website with stories that validate our community members’ experiences, and provide positive and uplifting stories of hope.

The creation of Medical Stories which can be used to educate medical professionals about the experiences of those living with MCAS, and lobby for systemic change in diagnosis and treatment.

Provide holistic end-of-life care to people who are suffering of a terminal illness, under the direction of the Palliative Care Nurse Team Leader. Could you befriend an asylum seeking or refugee young person? HIAS+JCORE is seeking volunteer befrienders for our transformative JUMP project! As a befriender, you'd meet fortnightly with your young person for at least 12 months, and receive full training and an enhanced DBS check. You'll also get ongoing support from our JUMP project staff.

The difference you'd make

The young people JUMP support might benefit from a befriender because they’ve left their families behind and often feel isolated, bewildered and lonely. Some have no one to talk to. Some want to improve their English. Some would like to get to know London better. The impact made by our befrienders is long-lasting and varies depending on both the befriender and young person's interests.

• Willing to ask for help when uncertain when befriending and to discuss the experience of befriending through regular updates and supervision.

Volunteer requirements

Volunteers will be required to:

• Meet with an unaccompanied asylum seeking or refugee young person fortnightly for at least one year.
• Establish a warm, supportive friendship with the young person within JUMP befriending boundaries.
• Help to build up the young person’s self-esteem and confidence.
• A JUMP befriender will be someone the young person can talk to. They must be prepared to support the young person with a range of possible activities, such as: developing everyday life skills, getting around London, taking part in recreational or educational opportunities, applying for work experience or a job. They should be prepared to offer support with English, and where possible other types of academic work.
• They must make time to travel, if necessary, within London to meet with the young person. While we try to match people who live reasonably close by, this is not always possible, and young people can often have precarious housing situations and move neighbourhoods. It is important to consider the travel time, as well as contact time, potentially involved in befriending.
• A JUMP volunteer should be prepared to enjoy cultural/ sporting activities with the young person, and to take advantage of free entertainment and other opportunities in London.
• They should regularly communicate with the project coordinator after meeting the young person, providing feedback once a month about activities undertaken and to attend supervision face-to-face twice a year.
• They must submit monthly expenses incurred during the activities undertaken with the young person, and immediately alert the JUMP project coordinator or HIAS+JCORE Safeguarding Lead to any safeguarding (child and young person protection) issues.

What is the application process?

After submitting your application, you will be contacted to arrange an informal telephone interview. If all goes well at this stage, we would request two references and get you booked onto a day's training. The training will cover the role of the befriender and offer some more information about the experiences of unaccompanied asylum seeking and refugee young people. Before being paired with a young person we would also request an enhanced DBS check.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Communications Volunteer for the Asian MS Group. As our Communications Volunteer you’ll make sure people know they have a local MS Society group to turn to.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your writing skills, and gain an experience of communicating across a range of digital channels. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. About Access Academia

Access Academia is the charitable umbrella which was created out of the creation of the student-led publication, the Journal of Intersectional Social Justice. When Journal of Intersectional Social Justice (JISJ) was created, there were not any expectations for the project to be any more than that: a student-led academic publication. However, as it rolled on, attention for the project widened and it began to cover other topics and get involved in other realms of knowledge sharing, activism, and content creation. The creation of the seminal Access Series on the Intersections blog springboarded the idea for the JISJ to turn into something much more than a simple academic publication. Now as we have restructured the JISJ into Access Academia, we are finalising our official registration as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in the UK. 

Our core purpose is to Make Academia More Accessible. We plan to accomplish this by many different avenues, as obviously it is a very wide-ranging goal! The main ways we plan to do this are through encouraging Open Access academia and knowledge sharing through the Access Series, expanding the themes covered on Intersections with additions such as Mental Health Mondays and Colonialism in Subject, creating accessible content across our social media platforms which encourages truthful and accurate knowledge sharing and activism, running research events to encourage students to publish and interact with academia, covering inside stories of academia, running student engagement programmes to try and make academia less of an Ivory Tower, and much more!

What is a Volunteership?

A volunteership is a unique hybrid opportunity that combines elements of volunteering and interning. Participants commit to working with a charity or nonprofit organization for a specified period of time, fulfilling a set of responsibilities and expectations. In return, they gain valuable experience, receive a letter of recommendation, and are offered LinkedIn endorsements. Additionally, they may have the chance to continue working with the charity through future hiring cycles as long as they remain a student.   • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of monthly charity events. This is a minimum of 1 online event per month.

  • Work closely with team members to ensure events are organized efficiently, within budget, and aligned with the charity’s mission.

  • Help with logistics, setup, and support during events.

  • Manage guest lists, invitations, and event communications.

• Annual Research Programme Coordination:

  • Support the coordination of the charity’s annual research programme. This is currently an annual programme, the Social Justice Research Fellowship, running in 2025 from June 2nd - August 8th.

  • Assist in organizing logistics, outreach, and scheduling for research participants.

  • Ensure that resources and materials are available for programme participants.

  • Track the progress of the programme and report on key milestones.

  • Contribute to planing and logistical initiatives surrounding expanding the provisions of research programmes, including brainstorming and coordination for potential new programmes.

• Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Collaborate with internal teams and volunteers to ensure smooth event and programme execution.

  • Participate in regular team meetings, contributing ideas and insights.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the efficiency of events and programmes.

  • Participate in Outreach & Marketing meetings and follow direction provided from Senior Staff.

• Post-Event & Programme Reporting:

  • Help in post-event evaluations, collecting feedback from participants, and reporting on outcomes.

  • Assist in maintaining and updating event and programme documentation for future reference.

As a volunteer Photographer/Videographer, you will play a crucial role in capturing and documenting RollaDome All Skate’s events, programs, and initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to build your portfolio and gain hands-on experience in event photography and video production, all while supporting a community-focused charity. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Attend and capture high-quality photos and videos at events, workshops, and community programs. 

• Edit and enhance photos and videos for use in marketing materials, social media, and newsletters. 

• Create short promotional video content for RollaDome’s social media channels. 

• Work with the marketing and communications team to ensure content aligns with brand guidelines. 

• Assist with the storage and organisation of media files in a timely and efficient manner. 

• Collaborate with the team to create creative concepts for photo and video content. 

Skills & Qualifications 

• Strong proficiency in photography and videography, with a good eye for composition and detail. 

• Experience with photo and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, Final Cut). 

• Creativity and ability to bring innovative ideas to the table. 

• Good understanding of social media platforms and how visual content impacts engagement. 

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines. 

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
