At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. We meet fortnightly in Oadby on Thursday evenings. There is no requirement to attend every session.

We will be holding selection events on the following dates: 21st/22nd June, 19th/20th July, 23rd/24th August, 20th/21st September.

You will need to attend a Community First Aid course - 2 Days (Typically a Weekend) delivered at Pegasus House in Leicester.

We are seeking to add to the expertise of our experienced, professional Board of Trustees all of whom are volunteers.  All our Trustees require excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, strategic vision and good independent judgement. Although not limited to, we would particularly value the experience and skills in the following areas : 

• Company Secretary/Legal Experience 
• Fundraising in the following areas – Grant, Corporate and Public 
• Marketing 

Lived or shared experience of mental health – desirable.

As background information, Sutton Mental Health Foundation was established as a charity in 1998. Its aim is to support individuals experiencing serious mental health issues in the London Borough of Sutton. We aim to keep such individuals well and active helping them to have a voice in the provision of mental health care in the Borough.  Our vision is to provide a community in Sutton which values mental wellbeing and understands how to respond positively to individuals’ anxiety and distress.  The Foundation works together to promote mental wellbeing resilience and recovery from mental distress.We provide nonclinical support through our Intentional Peer Support programme together with a Day Service and a Crisis Cafe at our centre in Belmont. We receive funding mainly from the NHS and the London Borough of Sutton although we are part of the Voluntary Sector. 

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

No prior board experience needed – just commitment, curiosity and a desire to support local good.

We require someone with a strong background in marketing and/or communications at a senior level, who understands the challenges of marketing and communications in Wales. This knowledge will support our leadership team in developing and delivering an effective strategy to enhance our brand presence and audience engagement.  An understanding of marketing regulation and governance is key, alongside experience in public relations and digital outreach to ensure that the charity’s message and impact resonate with a wide audience.

In this role you will be helping, supporting and guiding us on our journey, willing to be a strong advocate for the charity and having the skills and expertise to steer the charity towards achieving our strategic priorities. Quilombo UK is looking for a Bid Writer - Commercial Proposal Volunteer to join their team. Quilombo UK is a not for profit social enterprise that challenges people to think differently and bridge gaps between communities, with the aim of building a culturally rich society, where differences are accepted and celebrated. As chosen among 160 other organizations to work in collaboration with the Home Office on the “Building a Stronger Britain together” project, you will be joining a team, which not only supports the community but also stands up to extremism in all of its forms.

By joining Quilombo UK and QMC Capoeira School you will be supported and guided by experienced staff and volunteers, who are willing to share their skill set and will provided you with great opportunities for development in many different areas.

Ideal candidates will assist Quilombo UK in preparing funding bids that contribute to their further development. They should be well-organized, with a proactive attitude to deliver work that adheres to the key objectives of the organization. Candidates should be willing to volunteer at least 12 hours a week, for a duration of 16 weeks.

You will be volunteering as part of the team who are responsible for creating the bids to attract funding for our new or existing projects. The role will involve discussing project ideas and proposals with the management & project teams, searching for the right funding opportunities and preparing bids for submission.

You will work as part of an experienced team, where writing skills and experience in crafting persuasive and compelling content are essential.

Responsibilities:

Are you someone who cares deeply about your community? Do you agree that by sharing first aid skills and advice we can create a safer and more resilient community? If so, then becoming a Community First Aider might be the role for you! While observing activity at an event through regular patrols, you could be involved in anything from providing first aid advice to providing lifesaving skills for a patient until the emergency services arrive. Your actions can save lives. Whether it's a minor injury or a serious emergency, your skills will be the difference between panic and relief.

If you become a Community First Aider with Cheshire East, we would love to see you at our monthly meetings in Holmes Chapel. There are also additional training sessions and meetings which will be organised and communicated on an ad-hoc basis. Once your selection and screening has been completed, you will be invited to attend 2 days of in-person training (as well as 10 hours of pre-course e-learning).

We will host a selection and interview evening at our St John Ambulance Crewe building in the week commencing 28th July (specific date and time tbc). At this event, we will run short informal interviews, conduct a Right to Volunteer ID check and demonstrate life-saving skills.

Once screening has been completed to become a Community First Aider with St John Ambulance, we will book you onto a 2-day locally led training course in Cheshire East. Upon completion of this training, we will welcome you to the organisation with an induction session where you will learn all about St John Ambulance and everything you need to know to volunteer with us!
