We need volunteers who have expertise in retail operations and income generation to help us maximise the revenue generated in our charity shops. You will gain new skills and experience as a Branch Trustee whilst enabling us to help more animals.

Overview of the Branch Trustee – Retail and Income Generation opportunity

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in retail operations and income generation, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee for our Branch and support us in maximising the revenue generated from our charity shops.

Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether the trustee takes on additional duties.

The RSPCA London South East Branch

The London South East Branch is one of the branches of RSPCA, but we are also a separately registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.

The London South East Branch has two retail shops (Sydenham Road and Norwood Road) and supports the work of the Inspectorate through rehoming of animals within the branch area.

Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Retail and Income Generation

• Assist in maximising the profitability of the Branch’s two charity shops.
• Work with the Branch to explore any potential for expanding the retail operation, this could be through e-commerce via online sales platforms such as eBay.
• Work with other trustees, the Branch health and safety provider and the Branch to ensure the charity shops meet health and safety standards.
• Explore other ways to generate income for the Branch and work closely with the Branch to put these ideas into action.

Core Branch Trustee responsibilities

• Appreciate and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
• Work in conjunction with fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
• Work with national RSPCA staff to ensure that the branch meets all minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS).
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Partnership Manager write, adopt, monitor, and review a strategy setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
• Actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting.
• Be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
• Actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers and welcome new members.
• In conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch if applicable.

Practical considerations

• Please also note that to become a Trustee, you will need to be aged 18 or over and a member of our branch for three months before you are eligible to be elected.

• Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and read the Charity Commission’s guidance for individuals on who cannot be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

You’ll take some of the stress and anxiety out of getting around and taking part in activities as a blind or partially sighted person. The help you give will encourage people to do more.

What you’ll be doing
• Sighted guiding / giving practical help to individuals in and around venues, so they can take part in events.
• Supporting volunteers with sight loss with their volunteering activities which range from facilitating a regular community group to delivering a talk about sight loss to a local business. Your role would involve things like guiding; Meeting and greeting at group activities or creating a welcoming and interesting display stand at events.

In this role you will only be helping individuals in places open to the public, often in a group setting. We will provide training in sighted guiding techniques and understanding sight loss.
We would particularly like to recruit support volunteers within the Downpatrick area (last Wednesday of every month)

Overview

This is a Senior Leadership team role.

The Base Camp Manager has responsibility for many of the logistical aspects of the expedition,
including equipment, food, and managing the environmental impact at base camp. You will need to be ready to turn your hand to a range of tasks, acting as the ‘fixer’ for the expedition and supporting the expedition team with all aspects of expedition life.

As a Training Dog Fosterer, you’ll provide a loving temporary home to a dog in training, typically for a period of 12 to 20 weeks, as they begin their journey to become a guide dog. You’ll get to see the progress your furry companion is making in their training and be a vital part of their journey, without the commitment of looking after a dog full time.

What you’ll be doing:

In this rewarding role, your support for a guide dog in training will include:

• Doing the school run for your dog in training! This will typically involve dropping them off and picking them up at an agreed time Monday to Friday at one of our regional centres or community teams, however, some sites may vary. There are some locations where we will be able to collect and return the training dog from your home. 
• Caring for your dog in your home such as feeding, grooming, free running and playing, following the advice of our expert staff.
• Helping your dog keep up with their training by reinforcing the techniques at home from our first-class training programme.
• Making sure your dog is not left alone for more than four hours in a 24-hour period. If you’re planning on going on holiday, let us know at your initial phone call so we can plan alternative cover for your future life changer.

Can I foster a dog?

If you’re hoping to foster a guide dog in training, here’s what we ideally look for:

• Being close to one of our regional centres or community teams so that your dog can get to their training. 
• The agreement of your landlord to have a dog in your home if you rent your home.
• A safe and secure area outside for the dog to go to the toilet.

However, we try to be flexible – for example, you’ll still be able to foster a dog if you live in London, even if you don’t have access to outside space.

Cattery Assistant

Our Branch

At Apsley Cattery we have around 30 volunteers, supported by our Animal Welfare Team. There will be lots of hands on contact with the cats, including cleaning and feeding at the cattery and/or socializing of the cats in our care. You would be part of a team that would make a real difference to the lives of our cats.

We are looking for volunteers to help care for the cats in our cattery to keep them fed, watered, and clean. You will learn new skills, and make our cats very happy whilst they wait for their forever home.

By volunteering at our Cattery, you would be helping us get through the essential tasks. As well as assisting with their feeding and the cleaning of the cattery, you will also be working closely with the team allowing you to get more involved and learn new skills. This opportunity to help our cats is extremely rewarding, knowing that you have improved their welfare and made them happy whilst they are waiting for their forever home.

• Preparing and providing food and water for the cats.

• Cleaning, and maintaining the cattery to a high standard of cleanliness, so our cats are as comfortable as possible.

About Nova 
Based in North Kensington since 1983 and serving its poorest wards and those of surrounding London boroughs, Nova works with individuals from marginalised and disadvantaged communities who are looking to develop their potential and achieve a better future for themselves. Nova brings about real and lasting change in people’s lives by addressing every person as an individual and seeking out ways to best support that person to reach their goals. • Grassroots Community Support – including responsive actions (e.g. Grenfell, COVID-19), adult education, IAG, family programme and volunteering  
• Wider Reaching Dialogue Events and Influencing – focussing on challenging stigma, prejudice and inequality – working with individuals, organisations, networks and decision makers to move through conversation to action  ​

Your Role as a Mentor

As a mentor, you will hold weekly one-on-one sessions of 1-3 hours for the duration of 12 months. You will help build confidence, resilience, and help your mentee manage feelings through a series of fun experiences and activities. Whether you’re playing games or discussing goals, you’ll be making a difference in a child’s life by developing the tools for a positive future.

Winners Group Initiative

Winners Group Initiative works to improve the lives of marginalized youth, women, children, and people living with HIV/AIDS through education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable, community-driven change. Addressing challenges such as poor-quality education, inadequate healthcare, discrimination against marginalized groups, and lack of skills, they run four key programs. Education provides resources and support to 10 local public primary schools, with special focus on girls’ education. Community Development fosters collective action and skills training for employment. Advocacy empowers marginalized voices to influence decisions. Health promotes preventive care, strengthens local facilities, and extends grassroots services—creating lasting, equitable improvements in the community.

Volunteer Board Member

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

In their capacity, they will offer guidance to the organization, manage international partnerships, and use they experience to strategize and implement action plans that will assist the organization in meeting its objectives and goals. This is a flexible role only 10 hour per week, there are no monthly meetings unless you request for it to communicate with the organization on your progress. The organization will be sharing with you of all their work through your desired communication mode regularly.
