About the Volunteer Programme:

The HR Programme Coordinator plays a pivotal role in driving the success of our flagship professional development initiative. This volunteering role is responsible for managing the end-to-end execution of the HR programme, ensuring seamless coordination between participants, Heads of Department (HoDs), and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities of the sucessful volunteer:

Programme Management

We are looking for two new volunteer yoga teachers to join our small team of teachers delivering weekly yoga sessions to our clients. This role involves taking over two regular classes on a Wednesday and joining a rota with one or two other teachers, therefore leading the sessions on 1 out of every 2 or 3 weeks.

Yoga at the Foundation is offered as a gentle, supportive practice to help clients reconnect with their bodies, build regulation, and experience moments of calm and empowerment.

Two 1-hour classes with a 30-minute break in between (1 women-only class, 1 mixed-gender class)

Commitment: Weekly rota (shared with 1–2 other teachers, so leading 1 in every 2 or 3 weeks). After an initial trial period, we are asking for a minimum 1-year commitment.

How much commitment is required?

The hours are flexible around your schedule. All Trustees volunteers are expected to:

· Attend monthly meetings to update on tasks, progress etc.

· Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary

· Add to and maintain the administration of our file-sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms

· Check and respond to emails in a timely manner

· Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments

Volunteer with Older People - Elders Programme

Organisation: Katherine Low Settlement (KLS)

Katherine Low Settlement is a community charity in Battersea that has been supporting local people since 1924. Our Elders Programme brings older people together every week through social activities, shared meals and gentle exercise. For many of our members, these sessions are the highlight of their week. The volunteers who show up and make them feel welcome are the reason they keep coming back.

We're looking for warm, reliable people to join us across a range of roles. You don't need experience or qualifications, just patience, a friendly face and a genuine enjoyment of spending time with older adults.

Lunch Club Volunteer - Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, 11:00am to 2:00pm
Welcome members, chat with them on the minibus journey to and from KLS, help serve food and support with tidying up. You'll also sit down to eat lunch with members, which is often the highlight of the day.

Minibus Support Volunteer - Tuesdays, 9:00 to 10:45am
Travel with members on the minibus to and from KLS, making sure everyone feels safe, comfortable and looked after on the journey in.

Chair Based Exercise Assistant - Mondays, 1:30 to 4:00pm
Support older people to stay active and connected through gentle weekly exercise. You'll help set up, welcome members, offer encouragement during the session and provide a bit of extra one-to-one support where needed.

Digital Champion (Tech Beginners) - Thursdays, 11:00am to 12:30pm
Help older people take their first steps with technology. This structured weekly class covers the basics, including smartphones, sending messages and getting online safely. You'll support the group, answer questions and keep things relaxed and encouraging.

Digital Champion (Tech Together) - Tuesdays, 1:30 to 3:30pm
Support older people in a friendly weekly drop-in where members get help with their own devices or use our tablets and Chromebooks. You'll listen to what each person needs, answer questions and help them build confidence at their own pace.

Digital Champion (Tech Your Time) - Thursdays, 1:30 to 3:00pm
Help older people develop their digital skills further in a structured intermediate session. You'll support members as they build on the basics, practise everyday tasks and grow in confidence and independence online.

Do you have a spare room in your home?

We are looking for people with a spare room who are willing to offer a temporary home and a helping hand to a refugee or person seeking asylum as they plan their next steps in the UK. Hosting is only ever temporary and you decide how long you are willing to host for; it can vary from a few nights to several months and anything in between. 

Who can be a host?

Anyone with a spare room, or even a sofa bed, that is well connected and has good public transport systems can apply to host. This enables guests to travel to college, school, support groups or jobs, and retain their independence.

All hosts will need to complete an application form, provide two references and have a home visit. 

Support available

We carefully assess each guest and host, match according to preferences, advise on hosting arrangements and preparations, and provide ongoing support to hosts throughout the placement. We stay in contact with you when you have a guest staying with you, and someone from the team is available seven days a week if you have any questions or problems.

We will discuss with you any preferences, such as if you would prefer not to host someone who has not been vaccinated against covid, or who smokes. This will be recorded on your profile on our database so that our whole Placement Team can access this and match you with a guest who fits your circumstances.

All guests, hosts and households are different. Some hosts share meals and do activities with guests; others just give guests a key, show them round and get on with their busy lives. Our team are available to support you through every stage of the process.

Why is hosting needed?

Refugees and people seeking asylum are fleeing war or persecution in their own countries. But many who come to the UK in search of safety find themselves facing homelessness and destitution. They may be without statutory support for long periods, or need some additional help to build new lives.

Hosting is such a practical way to support refugees and it sends a powerful message of welcome, that the UK is in fact kind and compassionate to those who are trying to rebuild their lives here.

Do you enjoy public speaking? Do you want to share the message of who Mencap are, what we do and bust some myths to groups and corporates around learning disabilities? If the answer is yes, then our Mencap Volunteer Speaker role could be for you!

We’re looking for confident public speakers to represent Mencap by delivering Lunch and Learn talks. You’ll be fully supported with training, guidance, and a prepared presentation and script. In this role, you’ll deliver engaging sessions either in person or virtually via Teams, reaching a wide range of groups and organisations.

Frequently you'll be co-delivering these talks with people with a learning disability, so you'll hear first hand their stories and the impact you'll make.

For this role you will need access to your own laptop.

We want to spread the message of who Mencap are and the amazing work we do, so as well as attending lunch and learns requested by our current corporates, we're looking for volunteers who will as part of the role, proactively; research, reach out and contact local groups (e.g: Rotary Clubs, Women's Institutes) and share our lunch and learn presentation with them.

The role also gives you the opportunity to attend cheque presentations and act as a representative for Mencap at supporter’s fundraising activities.

Role Purpose

The Manager leads the Ethics Team as a volunteer, ensuring that all research conducted across the organisation meets high ethical standards. They translate strategic goals into practical plans, support volunteers in their development, and maintain a positive, inclusive team culture. The Manager provides oversight, guidance and operational leadership to ensure ethical, responsible and consistent research practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and support the Ethics Team to deliver high‑quality ethical oversight.

• Translate strategic objectives into clear operational plans and manageable tasks.

• Allocate volunteer capacity effectively and ensure smooth day‑to‑day functioning.

• Provide expert guidance on ethical standards, research integrity and data management.

• Support project teams in designing ethically robust research methodologies.

• Make operational decisions that maintain compliance and effective team performance.

• Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance, supporting development and confidence‑building.

• Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive volunteer environment.

• Resolve conflict, encourage collaboration and strengthen team cohesion.

• Supervise Senior Officers/Senior Researchers/Senior Advisors and provide ongoing support.

Competency Requirements (Manager)

To succeed in this volunteer leadership role, the Manager should demonstrate:

Role Requirements (Manager)

Because this is a senior volunteer leadership role, the following experience is required:

• At least 4 years of experience conducting research and managing ethical considerations, including applying ethical frameworks and handling data responsibly.

• A minimum of 2 years of progressive supervision experience in a research or ethics‑related context (e.g., supervising researchers, overseeing ethical review processes, or leading project teams).

• A strong understanding of research governance, ethical risk and responsible data management.

• Experience supporting others’ development, ideally in a volunteer or mixed‑experience environment.
