AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.
Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England and Wales with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands of this growth, we are looking for exceptional candidates to join our team in a highly rewarding opportunity. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. We welcome applications from candidates with experience of domestic abuse. Our Specialist Advocates support families impacted by fatal domestic abuse through provision of lay advocacy, for and on behalf of, families with a range of statutory service providers (e.g. those conducting reviews and inquiries, social services, police, housing) and work to build good relations between all parties. To ensure that families get the support they need, you will use AAFDA’s Home Office endorsed seven-step approach to working with individuals and families, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and advocacy to restore dignity and relief for families and to help them cope and recover. Through trauma-informed approaches, you will:
listen to families and advocate for them in a complex system that too often treats them as passive participants and overlooks the value of their insight.
provide information, support, guidance, advice and advocacy on Domestic Homicide Reviews, Mental Health Reviews, Inquests, Independent Office of Police Conduct inquiries and other types of inquiries.
manage families’ expectations of the legal and procedural processes facing them by supporting families in meetings with agencies such as health, police and local authorities.
give families practical help on a wide range of issues - including help with letter writing or advocating with employers and local authorities on the families’ behalf.
Support AAFDA in our bringing families together in AAFDA’s peer support events, such as the Hear Our Voice weekend and the on-line peer support Zoom sessions, where families can speak with others to share their experiences and stories. This will involve occasional evening work.

Working location: mostly remote work with some travel required across the region. Based in the North or East of Scotland, you will deliver a face-to-face service to clients in their own home or safe meeting place, as well as providing support by Teams, phone, email or other means to suit the service user. Join Our Team: We're expanding our National Road Victim Service and need a dedicated Caseworker to join our dynamic, compassionate team. Your role will involve delivering world-class support services to those at their most vulnerable.
Why this role is important: Every 20 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads. For families affected, the emotional and practical challenges are immense. As a Caseworker, you will provide trauma-informed care to individuals and families suffering from the sudden bereavement or life-altering injury of a loved one. Working mostly remotely, with some home visits to service users, you’ll offer vital emotional and practical support—including helping them access therapeutic resources, financial assistance, and guidance through the complexities of medical and legal processes.

Who You Are: We need passionate, self-starters with a background in providing high-quality emotional support and advocacy. Your experience in roles like police, criminal justice, counselling, or health and social care could make you a perfect fit.
Specifically Seeking Candidates With:
- Living in the North or East of Scotland
- a full, clean UK driving licence, access to your own transport and are willing to use it for work purposes (we reimburse travelling expenses)
- Experience delivering frontline support, preferably involving sudden bereavement or heightened vulnerabilities.

Purpose of the post : To provide specialised, holistic support to adults and families who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse, harm and violence, and are being supported within Community services in Torfaen
Who are we looking for?We are looking for a compassionate, reflective, and person-centred individual to join our team in delivering trauma-informed support to adults and families. This role is about more than providing a service—it’s about striving for people to feel safer, gain more control, and have choice over decisions about their future.
You’ll work collaboratively to create environments where individuals feel seen, heard, and respected, and where their experiences and strengths shape the support, they receive.
Specific responsibilities
- Collaborate with individuals and team members to provide trauma informed support to a caseload of adults and young people within community settings.
- Assess and manage risk sensitively and collaboratively, promoting safety through strengths-based approaches that recognise each person’s lived experience.
- Co-develop personalised support and/or safety plans with individuals, ensuring goals are meaningful, achievable, and shaped by the person’s own priorities and values.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with legislation and organisational policies, maintaining a trauma-informed, non-judgemental stance that prioritises dignity and emotional safety.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records that reflect the support provided, using respectful, person-centred language
- Provide clear, compassionate signposting to internal and external services, guided by the individual’s expressed needs, interests, and readiness.
- Create regular opportunities for feedback, ensuring Cyfannol’s services are shaped by the voices and experiences of those supported.
- Contribute to audits and reporting, engaging positively with service improvement plans and recognising the value of reflective learning and continuous development.
- Participate actively in clinical and managerial supervision, using these spaces for reflection, learning, and maintaining emotional wellbeing in a supportive environment.
- Build and maintain respectful, collaborative relationships with external agencies, advocating for the needs and rights of individuals in a way that promotes trust and partnership.
