About the service

The Emma Project, Daria House and Jan’s Place are specialist services providing refuge and support services to women who have been subjected to domestic and/or sexual violence and abuse, including women who have been sexually exploited, including through prostitution and who also use substances problematically.

About the role

You will work closely alongside the refuges Team Leader and Service Manager to implement and deliver a trauma informed approach to refuge services. We’re looking for a highly organised and self-motivated woman who is passionate about ending violence against women, girls and children. You’ll have a ‘can-do’ approach and demonstrable commitment to nia’s approach to Prioritising women, upholding and promoting feminist, trauma-informed and anti-racist practice.

About the role:

We are looking to appoint a Family Support Worker on a full-time basis (35 hours, 5 days per week) to deliver a high-quality family support service as part of our Thames Valley Care Team to families in the local area, at a time where they need it most.

Reporting to the Family Support Manager of the Thames Valley Care Team and working in partnership with health, education and social care professionals, you will take responsibility for providing needs-led emotional, social and practical support to families where a child/young person has a life threatening or terminal illness. You will enjoy responsibility for managing your own schedule, remaining flexible to the needs of the families on your caseload.

Having worked in a stressful and emotional environment you have a genuine interest in building supportive relationships and helping people; and having provided bereavement support to families, you understand processes of grief, loss and change - and how best to help others deal with its impact.

This role covers Thames Valley and surrounding areas. The role does require travel, however you have the freedom to plan your own diary around the demands of both the families you are working with, your team, and also any personal appointments you may need to attend.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Key areas

• Undertake training working towards the completion of the SQE
• Provide support in legal research into past cases and documents
• Draft and prepare claims or other legal documents
• Provide support with legal advice to SMT, NEC, members
• Keep up to date with new developments in employment legislation
• Provide support with employment law briefings to PCS staff about changes in employment legislation
• Advise members and Reps on wrongful termination and unfair dismissal claims, including reviewing dismissal procedures and advocating for members' rights

About the Role

The Mental Health Recovery Worker supports individuals within the community, to improve mental health and wellbeing, through focussed 1:1s and structured interventions. At times this may mean deescalating crisis.

The role will be part of a larger Recovery Lounge team made up of Mental Health Recovery Workers, Peer Support Workers and volunteers.

About the Recovery Lounge Service

Our Recovery Lounges offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental environment outside of normal working hours for those who feel in mental distress or crisis. The role will involve assessing needs and offering one to one support to service users to enable them to begin the process of improving their mental health and wellbeing and to providing clarity on services and pathways available in the area.

About You

The successful candidate will have experience of working with individuals experiencing mental health and wellbeing issues, experience of working in a small service within a wider organisation, including delivering a service against performance targets and have the ability to Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with a wide range of people. They will have good communication, motivational and negotiation skills and understand the wellbeing needs of and working with people with mental health needs, including those from culturally diverse communities.
