Join Mencap as our Finance Lead – Fundraising & Communications, Advocacy and Activism (CAA) and play a pivotal role in maximising the impact of our fundraising and advocacy work.

About the Role

As part of our collaborative Finance Business Partnering team, you’ll support fundraising, communications, advocacy, and activism across Mencap. You’ll provide clear financial advice, insightful analysis, and strong financial management to ensure our fundraising income is used effectively to benefit people with learning disabilities.

Over the next five years Mencap have big ambitions to significantly grow our fundraising income and increase our influencing and campaigning impact to ensure people with a learning disability can live life to the full.

This role is a full time permanent position. There is flexibility around where the role is based. We have large offices in London and Peterborough and smaller offices located throughout the UK.

You will need to travel occasionally for meetings. However, this role will primarily be working remotely.

Key responsibilities include:

• Partnering with directorate teams to create robust budgets and forecasts, offering support and advice for realistic financial planning.
• Providing clear financial reports and analysis to help teams understand results, spot emerging issues, and make informed decisions.
• Supporting complex income forecasting (e.g. legacies), using scenario analysis to guide planning and assess risk.
• Delivering financial analysis and modelling to support investment decisions.
• Ensuring funding applications and management of restricted funds are accurate and compliant.
• Improving finance processes and reporting, including with our new Salesforce fundraising CRM system.
• Acting as key contact for external auditors and funders regarding fundraising financials.
• Ensuring accounting and financial compliance with Charity SORP and other relevant regulations.
• Managing and coaching an FBP team member, supporting their development.

 What You’ll Bring

• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
• Proven experience in finance business partnering, ideally within a charity or fundraising environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data.
• Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management abilities.
• Clear communication and influencing skills, able to explain financial information to others.
• Motivation to improve systems and processes.
• Commitment to improving the lives of people with a learning disability.

Highly desirable:

• Knowledge of Charity SORP and charity finance regulations.
• Experience with restricted reserves and external reporting to funders.
• Familiarity with fundraising bids, donor engagement, and business development.
• Salesforce and/or Power BI experience.

Our Challenge Events team has just seen a 60% increase in fundraiser numbers this year. We’re hiring now to unlock the full potential of this incredible community. Reporting into the Challenge Events Manager, you’ll boost our ability to grow our portfolio of events and connect personally with the incredible people who support CALM on a day to day basis. 

The reasons people fundraise for CALM can be deeply personal. They might have lost someone to suicide, used our helpline for themselves or someone they know, or they might want to support a lifesaving service. By understanding what drives them, you’ll shape and deliver event experiences that feel meaningful and memorable, strengthen their connection to CALM, and inspire them to keep coming back for more. 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

CORE

• Contribute to CALM’s fundraising targets, through excellent event delivery, relationship management and supporter care

• Ensure all supporters receive excellent care from CALM, as well as completing all assigned admin tasks with a high degree of accuracy

• Confidently represent CALM at key meetings and events

• Be a data steward for fundraising, ensuring quality data management

SUPPORTER ENGAGEMENT AND STEWARDSHIP

• Support on delivery of the Challenge Events portfolio, ensuring Challenge Event Fundraisers are staying on track - such as completing registration forms on time, and setting up fundraising pages

• Provide general support to the Challenge Events Manager with event day delivery as required

• Represent CALM at Challenge Events, including acting as an Event Day Lead, and attending wider CALM events

• Work with the Challenge Events Manager and Event Fundraising Lead to develop our portfolio of events, analysing performance, identifying opportunities and putting ideas into action

• Steward CALM’s Challenge Event Fundraisers effectively throughout their journey when supporting CALM, to ensure they feel appreciated and inspired to fundraise for us

• Be the friendly voice of CALM, responding to enquiries through the website or phone in a timely manner

• Proactively craft and send personalised emails to fundraisers to drive retention and satisfaction

• Help with the management and optimisation of the Challenge Event email automated journeys used to steward participants in the lead up to and after their event

• Help to devise and manage our email marketing strategy to event participants 

• Deliver stewardship calls to Challenge Event Fundraisers - welcoming them to the team upon sign up, wishing them good luck before their event, or offering them fundraising guidance and support 

• Work across various income platforms to ensure fundraising pages and donations are correctly coded, including JustGiving and Enthuse

• Support on the maintenance of relevant pages on the CALM website

• Analyse feedback from fundraisers via our post event surveys and identify areas for improvement

• Engage with Fundraisers on our CALM Facebook groups - sparking conversation and fostering a supportive community atmosphere

• Recruit and manage volunteers to support at events

• Work with the wider organisation to improve processes and data management

• Support in other areas of Public Fundraising as required, including community fundraising and individual giving.

Competencies

Essential

• A strong understanding of challenge event fundraising 

• Able to take initiative, manage a varied work load with great organisational skills

• Passion for fundraising and understanding of the importance of providing excellent supporter care by telephone, SMS, and email

• Confident making telephone calls, with a friendly and empathetic telephone manner

About the opportunity
Working closely with the Corporate Partnerships Manager and wider Philanthropy Department, the Corporate Partnerships Coordinator will identify and cultivate fruitful partnerships with a range of small, medium and large businesses.
They will help maximise the potential of corporate and other organisations for funding, volunteer recruitment, and other philanthropic opportunities, to enable growth and sustainability for Action Tutoring. Nightstop Support Worker & Volunteer Coordinator

About the Role:

The Nightstop Coordinator role is busy and varied role, it involves working with young people from when they approach the service to when they find longer term accommodation. You will be responsible for being the first point of contact for all young people, assessing each young person’s needs and risks, finding short and long term housing options, organising the logistics of each Nightstop placement and making sure that each Nightstop placement is safe.

You will also lead on the promotion of the service with the aim of recruiting new Nightstop volunteers. The role will be based in the London office and cover referrals from young people in London.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide a welcoming and supportive service to young people at risk of homelessness

· Conduct needs and risk assessments and arrange Nightstop placements

· Support guests and volunteers through a 24-hour on-call service when required

· Recruit, onboard and engage new volunteer hosts

About You:

You’ll also be the guiding light for our delivery partners and service providers as we want them to deliver the best experience and outcomes for our young people. High-fives all around! Roll up your sleeves and deliver employability sessions directly to our incredible young people. You'll also help our Delivery Partners and volunteers do the same, both in person and virtually through our trusty MS Teams. When we're doing things face-to-face, you’ll need to hit the road and be there in person to help with programme delivery or programme visits to make sure all is running as smoothly as possible.

And if that’s not enough to keep you busy, you’ll also be keeping meticulous records of information and data on our young people, volunteers, and partners. It's all about making sure every step of their journey is accurately reflected in our systems so that it complies with our funding contracts.

Role Purpose

We’re looking for a flexible and self-motivated Project Assistant to join our team in Newcastle, supporting the delivery of our Home from Hospital and Community Support project.

Preventing admissions, and re-admissions, to hospital is crucial for the NHS. Re-admissions alone cost the NHS over £2 billion per year, and no-one wants to be in hospital when they can be recovering safely and comfortably at home. The Home from Hospital project was developed to help enable people to thrive back at home, and in the community, while at the same time supporting the NHS.

We recruit, train, support and coordinate volunteers, who provide a “little bit of help” to people who may be socially isolated, have health issues, or don’t have many people around them.

Our volunteers provide social, emotional or practical support, completing short-term tasks for up to 6 weeks. This includes tasks such as helping with grocery shopping, collecting and delivering medical prescriptions, in person or telephone check in’s, driving someone to an appointment, helping with paperwork, ensuring the home is safe and secure, and lots more!

As our Project Assistant, you will:

· Work closely with Volunteering Matters colleagues in a flexible and agile way, taking instruction and responding quickly to ensure beneficiaries and volunteers have the best possible experience

· Face to face and telephone contact with older people taking part in the project, completing practical, social, or wellbeing tasks to meet their individual needs

· Administrative tasks including providing updates to colleagues on project activities, processing paperwork, and other computer-based tasks to help ensure the smooth delivery of the programme

· Support with the promotion of the project across Newcastle in order to attract new volunteers and generate referrals – this may include drafting content, public speaking and giving presentations

This role is part of a fast-paced and responsive workplace environment. In order to meet the needs of the programme, we are looking for a candidate who can offer significant flexibility when it comes to working hours – ideally over 4 days per week.
