Job description

It’s fantastic that you would like to find out more about volunteering at St Mungo’s! As a First Response Volunteer, you will help find those rough sleeping quicker, and enable Outreach workers to spend more time supporting those found to move away from the streets and get connected to other local services. First Responders play a crucial role to ensure people sleeping rough receive vital support. This is not a client-facing role and therefore is well suited to somebody looking for their first role in the homelessness sector. However, we do also offer development opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge about rough sleeping for those interested.

What will I be doing?

  • Respond to StreetLink referrals including those from members of the public and self-referrals.
  • Working with a partner volunteer to locate referrals and identify those who are rough sleeping.
  •  Passing information about referrals to the Outreach team to follow up on – they will help the person find accommodation and link them into non-accommodation-based support for example around physical or mental health.

When will I be volunteering?

Please see all locations and the time commitments we are currently recruiting for in this role:

  • Reading - Mondays and Fridays, 6am-8:30am (1 shift per month)
  • Westminster -Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, 8pm-12am. Saturdays, 6am-10am (1 shift per month).
  • Oxford - Thursdays, 6am-10am (1 shift per month) *Please be aware for Oxford this will be driving shifts, so you and your partner volunteer will be driving between referrals. If you are interested on being a driver volunteer, you must be over 25. If you don’t drive, you can support with navigation between referrals, and updating if referrals are found or not found.
