Finance and Operations Officer – Forward Thinking

Forward Thinking is a small, dynamic charity where every member of staff makes a significant contribution. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a varied role, works proactively in a small team and takes pride in supporting the smooth running of the organisation which works  in frontline mediation in conflict zones. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Finance and Operations Officer plays a central role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of Forward Thinking. This is a varied role comprising approximately two days per week of office administration and operations and one day per week of bookkeeping and finance administration.

The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to coordinating staff diaries, organising meetings, supporting governance and compliance, maintaining office systems and policies, and managing the charity’s day-to-day financial administration.

You will report directly to the Director of Forward Thinking and will be in regular contact with him to keep him informed of key developments.

To succeed in this role, you will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities, able to work to deadlines and comfortable working independently within a small, collaborative team.

Essential Requirements

The role requires an individual with experience in office administration and bookkeeping, ideally within the charity or voluntary sector.

You will demonstrate the ability to organise meetings at short notice, coordinate diaries, prepare accurate minutes and maintain effective office systems. You will also be responsible for monitoring funding and reporting deadlines, ensuring compliance with the charity’s governing documents, and maintaining key organisational policies including safeguarding, health and safety, insurance and GDPR.

Experience using accounting software (preferably Sage Business Cloud) and strong Excel skills are essential.

3-5 years experience

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Excellent organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
• Experience of office administration and bookkeeping.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced environment.

Further Information

This is a permanent role working three days per week, comprising approximately:

• Two days per week: Office Administration
• One day per week: Bookkeeping and Finance Administration

The successful candidate will be based in-person at Forward Thinking’s offices in Millbank Tower, London. No hybrid working.

Salary: £24,000–£28,000 per annum for three days per week depending on experience (equivalent to approximately £40,000–£46,500 full-time equivalent).

What you'll do:
* Support the Area Service Manager to drive business planning activities within your contract, ensuring relevant and challenging objective setting and ongoing performance tracking, developing turn around action plans as may be necessary
* Support the Area Service Manager, using sound financial and accounting principles, manage contract budgets to deliver on corporate and local contract financial targets

The Acquisition Marketing Manager attracts new UK supporters and generates income for Mary’s Meals’ school meals programme through effective and inspiring marketing across online and offline channels. The role primarily raises income (but also awareness) through multi-channel marketing activity with a clear focus on maximising ROI and delivering supporter growth at scale. The Manager works closely with the Mary’s Meals International team and its agency to deliver Google and Bing Paid Search, Google Grant, Display, and YouTube.

The Manager will ensure online and offline marketing opportunities complement each other (and link seamlessly to our retention strategies) as part of an integrated multi-channel marketing strategy.

The Acquisition Marketing Manager works side-by-side with colleagues from across the Supporter Experience and Communications directorate, ensuring a joined-up approach to all communications activities, through the integration of strong storytelling, marketing expertise and supporter engagement. The Finance Manager will work closely with the CEO, Management Team and Board of Trustees, providing strategic financial insight, overseeing financial governance and supporting effective decision-making across the organisation.

The Development Officer will support the delivery of the Association’s income generation and partnership strategy, helping to diversify and grow funding streams across corporate partnerships, philanthropy, grants and strategic collaborations. As the Senior Programme Development Specialist, you will manage a pipeline of institutional funding opportunities and be responsible for securing a significant proportion of CIUK’s restricted income. You will work in partnership with CARE country offices, national and international partners, finance colleagues, and technical advisory teams to identify, scope, bid for and secure new funding for programmes through both grant and commercial contract modalities. You will deliver a high-quality bidding process, submitting applications to funders such as FCDO, DEC, START Fund, Education Cannot Wait, Jersey Overseas Aid Committee, and Power of Nutrition. You will build learning from existing CARE programmes into bid design and design programmes in line with CARE policies and standards, as well as donor standards.

About you

You are a passionate and experienced funding specialist, with a proven track record in fundraising from key UK donors – including solid experience of commercial bidding and FCDO frameworks, trusts and foundations and corporate donors. You will have the ability to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams during proposal preparation, working with partners and colleagues in multiple locations. You have experience in and very good understanding of programme design and meeting institutional and corporate donor requirements. You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You are capable of building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders; you are a positive collaborator and a strong team player.

Every year CSE's advice service helps thousands of people to cut their energy bills, improve their homes and stay warm. Thousands more struggle with cold homes and unaffordable bills without ever knowing that free, expert advice is available. This role exists to change that.

As Marketing Manager, you will grow awareness of, and referrals to, CSE's energy advice services across both B2B and B2C audiences. You will build relationships with the professionals and community organisations best placed to refer people to us and develop campaigns that reach householders directly.

You will own a sustained marketing plan, produce high-quality materials and measure your impact. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will work closely with colleagues across Communications and our Household Energy Services team. It is a creative, fast-moving environment where good ideas get acted on.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• Develop and maintain a sustained, practical marketing plan for CSE's advice services, covering referrer engagement (B2B) and direct-to-public activity (B2C).
