The RSPB Finance Director role is a crucially important role for RSPB, reporting to the Executive Director for Finance, Governance and Strategy, and a part of the RSPB's senior leadership group.
What's the role about?
This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to:
- Drive the Finance department across all areas, including financial operations and budgeting and forecasting.
- Provide advice and support to the wider Finance, Governance and Strategy Directorate, Board, and other senior leaders on finance-related matters with a focus on strategy implementation.
- Engage with the Finance Committee and Audit and Risk Committee, leading on all financial matters.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Fully qualified accountant (UK-recognised qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Successful track record of inspiring, managing, and delivering large scale organisation-wide projects
- Demonstrable track record in the successful leadership and management of a Finance team in a multi-faceted and geographically dispersed organisation
- Successful track record in developing excellent working relationships between internal directorates and external stakeholders
- Experience of both internal and external financial reporting and the related regulatory environment in the charity sector
- Experience of control systems that manage risk effectively and provide assurance on the efficiency and effectiveness of financial processes and compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks
- Knowledge of the main direct and indirect tax frameworks related to the charity sector
- Experience in creating and communicating a compelling vision for directing and motivating the Finance team
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Investment management experience
- Defined benefit pension scheme arrangement experience
Please note this is a remote working role that can be conducted flexibly within the UK, however the successful candidate will be expected to travel to RSPB offices (including The Lodge in Sandy, Bedfordshire) on a monthly basis.

Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Specialist (Girls and Gangs)
This is a new role focusing on working with girls who are at risk of entering the Criminal Justice System through their associations and links to Urban Street Gangs in Leeds. The Postholder will work on a 1:1 and group basis with girls in Leeds who have been identified by schools and partner agencies as needing additional input. Groups will take place in schools and in the community. The role will carry on essential partnership working across the sector to help improve responses to girls who are at risk. You will work with the purpose of providing appropriate emotional and practical support to young people experiencing sexual exploitation. Working within a harm reduction ethos, you will be supporting young people to effectively safeguard them and reduce the risk of further exploitation, providing intensive 1-2-1 work and group work within a multi-agency approach. You will ensure that young people are at the heart of our work to empower and effectively protect them.

Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy & Innovation:
- Design and deliver a fundraising strategy that scales ProVeg’s income from major donors, climate (and other relevant) foundations, and institutional funders.
- Identify and pursue new revenue streams aligned with our climate and food system mission.
Collaborate with leadership to strengthen our theory of change, donor engagement frameworks, and funding cases.
Donor & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Cultivate and steward relationships with high-net-worth individuals, trusts, foundations, corporate contacts and strategic partners.
- Represent ProVeg in donor meetings and high-level external events.
- Support the Senior Leadership Team and President in managing key donor relationships.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and grow the international fundraising function to increase income, capacity, and global reach.
- Drive team culture and performance, fostering professional development and a focus on measurable outcomes.
Cross-Organisational Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Communications, Programme, Finance, MEL, and Country teams to strengthen our fundraising infrastructure, materials, and processes.

Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of senior-level fundraising experience, ideally with major donors and foundations in the US and/or Europe.
- Proven track record of securing six-figure + gifts, including new donor acquisition and multi-year commitments.
- Deep understanding of the climate philanthropy and/or food system transformation space.
- Experience working in international NGOs or with cross-country fundraising collaboration.
- Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills across sectors and cultures.
- Strong writing and proposal development skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable building systems, not just managing them.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (minimum C2-level English).
- Strong analytical skills and experience measuring the success of fundraising activities.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with effective altruism and impact-led giving.
- Comfortable engaging in discussions around equity, justice, and sustainability in fundraising contexts.

The Purpose of the Role
The External Relations (ER) department includes private fundraising, marketing & communications and advocacy. ER’s goal is to mobilize external audiences to raise funding to meet core organization needs deliver programs that support our clients to recover and gain control of their lives; influence policy changes to improve outcomes for our clients; and build and grow our global brand.
The Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team plays a vital role in supporting ER to advance our ambitious global strategy. The FP&A team (1) is a strategic finance partner to leadership and ER teams (2) leads revenue modelling and budget development (3) provide insights and analysis to support decision making on funding decisions and critical initiatives. ER’s FP&A team sits within the Business Operations and Analytics unit, the backbone of the ER department which provides best-in-class strategy, financial planning, analytics, and operational support. The FP&A Senior Analyst will also be an integral part of IRC’s broader Finance organization. The Senior Analyst, FP&A, will be assigned a portfolio of ER teams. This role requires strong project management, the ability to drive projects from end to end, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the commitment to deliver high quality results at a fast pace
