Payroll / People Advisor

Key Responsibilities

The role of the payroll, reward and reporting People and Culture Officer will be fast paced with high volumes and lots of working across the team.

You’ll mainly be focussed on:

• Running their monthly payroll information and getting this over to the payroll team in finance so everyone gets paid correctly.
• Administration of all payroll and contractual changes for new and existing employees.
• Generating people data reports for all levels of the organisation. This includes headcount reports, total reward statements and any other ad hoc reports that are requested.
• Dealing with the queries that come through the shared HR mailbox.

There will be the opportunity to get involved with project work as they look to continuously improve the service they offer their internal clients.

What you will need to succeed

• Ability to prioritise your own workload and completing tasks with a high level of accuracy
• Experience of running payroll process for a similar sized organisation (c400 employees)
• Experience of HR information systems is essential (experience of Cascade HRIS is desirable)
• Excellent working knowledge of MS Word and advanced knowledge of Excel
• CIPD qualified to Level 3 or equivalent relevant experience
• Highly organised and capable of conflicting deadlines

The Role

Main duties and responsibilities

Communications (30% of work)

• Write and publish short regular newsletters for GRP’s stakeholders, including portfolio donors, wealth adviser partners and donors to operating costs.
• Manage and publish weekly content for GRP’s social media accounts, including LinkedIn and Instagram.
• Manage and curate content for GRP website, ensuring information is accurate, up-to-date and maximising opportunities to attract new donors and supporters.
• Coordinate with GRP’s third-party web developer on website maintenance and regularly re-evaluate site structure/functions to maximise its efficacy and usability.

Event planning (30% of work)

• Lead coordinator for in-person and virtual events, in line with events strategy devised by Strategic Relationships Manager.
• Lead event promotion and liaise with venues, speakers, catering, attendees, videographer, graphic designer, etc to ensure events are well-attended and well-run.

Research (20% of work)

• Drive ad-hoc research projects to support GRP’s partnership-building, core fundraising and portfolio selection/assessment efforts.

• Identify and research high-quality trust and foundation leads in line with core fundraising strategy.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) (20% of work)

• Manage GRP’s new CRM system (Beacon) on behalf of team, ensuring the team uses the CRM system consistently, accurately, and effectively. No prior experience with CRMs required – training will be provided.

They are now seeking a senior interim to lead a bold transformation of their funding and operating strategy. This is not your typical finance leadership role—this is a pivotal role aimed at shifting multiple organisations towards a more future-proofed funding model.

Reporting into the group division key deliverable will include:

Our client is committed to transforming lives of children and young people by creating opportunities to learn, grow, and develop through Education. The Charity is an independent funder and our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments, therefore we do not fund raise, our client has distributed over £298 million in grants to a range of organisations that seek to promote the life chances of children and young people through Education, with around £15 million in grants distributed each year. The Charity gives grants to benefit children and young up to the age of 25 (or up to 30 for younger people with special educational needs and/or disabilities) who live within nine Boroughs in West, Central and North London.

We are delighted to be working with the Charity to recruit a permanent Financial Controller to join its established team based in conveniently located offices in Central London. 

The role:

Reporting directly to the COO, the Financial Controller will ensure the provision of consistent, robust financial advice to the Charity as a whole.  This person will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and financial operations, ensuring these are compliant with statutory requirements and appropriate and effective financial controls are in place. They will also maintain a financial planning framework that will facilitate the delivery of the Charity’s financial strategy. This will involve managing one direct report, overseeing all financial reporting and tax compliance, preparing the Charity’s management accounts and the end of year accounts for approval and sign off by the Trustees. In addition, the role will be responsible for managing an annual financial audit process preparing the annual budgets in advance for SLT sign off and providing sound financial advice across all of these areas.

This person will also manage all external relationships with banks, financial institutions, property Investors and auditors wherever Finance is the main issue being dealt with. This person will also oversee all Grants related financial transactions in close collaboration with the Grants department.

The person:

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and will be able to provide excellent financial management and reporting for the Charity. They will be confident working with different internal stakeholders and external professional advisors and will be capable of considering their different requirements and priorities in a knowledgeable way. This person will have excellent attention to detail and will be highly organised and a strong communicator across a wide range of audiences. Educated to Degree level or the equivalent (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA), this person will have excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and will be up to date on all MS Office packages and financial software including SAGE being essential.

Candidates with prior experience of working with endowed Trusts, Foundations or Charities or who have worked in Charities that have income derived from a permanent endowment (either partially or totally), will be of particular interest, so please draw attention to this when applying.

This person will have demonstrated substantial financial management experience at a senior level in the Charity or Not-for-Profit sectors, with extensive knowledge of UK Charity Accounting Standards (SORP, Charity Commission compliance and VAT). Also experienced in strategic financial planning, preparing complex financial statements, budgeting and cashflow forecasting, and have good knowledge of financial planning in a Funder or Grant-Maker setting. As our income is generated from our endowment which consists of both significant property holdings and financial investments a substantial experience of managing income and cashflow from property and investments is essential.

PINF is the first charity in the UK that exists to support high-quality journalism. We exist at the cutting edge of charity law and need an experienced charity professional to make sure we do things properly. 

As Head of Operations & Governance, you will be responsible for overseeing the back-office operations of the charity. You will be a key point of contact for the team and support the Executive Director to ensure smooth, efficient and compliant operations.

You will be a senior member of the team, responsible for ensuring that PINF operates within its legal and regulatory framework, including in relation to charity, corporate, tax, employment and data protection regulations. • Manage our annual governance cycle, working closely with the Chair, Treasurer and Executive Director to ensure legal compliance and to plan and prepare for Board meetings including taking appropriate minutes.

• Manage the organisational risk framework including identifying emerging risks and working with the Executive Director to mitigate them.

• Companies House and Charity Commission filings.

• Develop and maintain a suite of policy to ensure PINF meets its obligations as a charity and an employer.

• HR 

• Manage HR across the organisation; ensuring all HR processes and policies are fit for purpose, up to date and adhere to law, and are understood and implemented across the organisation.

• Manage recruitment processes for all staff.

• Manage the annual leave tracker. 

• Operations and administration 

• Ensure the smooth running of the organisation by leading operational planning and monitoring progress.

• Lead on relationships and contracts with external suppliers and contractors.

• Ensure PINF has appropriate insurance cover. 

• Occasional support with charitable activities (meetings, events, publications, etc.) 

Requirements  

• A professional qualification in finance, management, law, or a related field and at least five years’ experience relevant to this role.

• Deep understanding of good governance and best practice in the charity sector.

• Understanding of relevant laws relating to employment, data protection and running a charity. 

• Sympathy to the aims and objectives of PINF. 

• Full professional proficiency in English. 

• Right to work in the UK. 

Skills and attributes 

• Experience of managing charity finances and budgets (Essential). A related finance or accountancy qualification would be desirable. 

• Experience of managing operations in a comparable charity or business, with both strategic and day-to-day operational responsibilities. 

• Developing HR processes and policies and taking the lead in implementing these across an organisation. 

• Developing processes and procedures and making improvements for efficiency and impact. 

• Experience of working closely with trustees, non-executives or senior leadership teams.

• Strong oral and written communications skills, including having the confidence to use your expertise to provide feedback and constructive challenge to senior leaders.

• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work remotely and independently and to collaborate with others. 

• Enjoy being the key point of contact and support in a small, remote team. 

• Ability to stay on top of your workload by using relevant software (including Microsoft Office and finance software such as Xero), keeping accurate and up-to-date records, and prioritising between competing tasks.

Citizens Advice North East Lincolnshire (CANEL) was founded in 1939 providing

advice, information, guidance, advocacy and support to anyone who needs it in

North East Lincolnshire, which covers Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Immingham. We are an independent, self-funded charity, affiliated to the National Citizens Advice.

We advise on debt, welfare benefits, consumer, employment, housing/homelessness, immigration, legal issues, relationships and families, and any other issues our clients raise.

Debt and welfare issues account for 60% of the issues people raise.

Our work is local, working proactively and closely with other agencies within the borough, including the local authority, to share intelligence to improve people’s situation and take part in joint initiatives and projects with other local groups.

As part of the wider Citizens Advice Bureau’s national federation, we also share details of

issues affecting our community which are used to influence central government and

national campaigns.

We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Chief Executive to lead the charity through the next exciting chapter by managing the delivery of our Strategic plan.

Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham is a very challenging area, yet is dynamic with a high national profile, You would be expected to play a major significant role within local community groups enhancing the area.

Key Responsibilities:

With the Board of Trustees, review the strategic plan and be accountable for delivering the

strategic plan, financial probity and securing the funds required to deliver the services.

Provide relevant and timely intelligence to the Board to ensure it maintains an overview of the Organisation and can make appropriate strategy, policy, and financial decisions.

Lead the team to ensure the Organisation achieves its objectives and delivers high quality, accessible and fully integrated advice services within the aims and values, mindful always of the specific needs of vulnerable and excluded groups.

Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion in line with our values and ensure our clients' needs are at the heart of all we do.

Represent the charity to our various partners, stakeholders, funders, and the media, developing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships.

Ensure that the charity fulfils all legal, statutory, regulatory, and quality responsibilities.

Key Experience & Knowledge:

• An understanding of the voluntary and community sector (VCS),

• An understanding of the complex nature of the current funding environment, With a track record of successful income generation, through fundraising, funding bids and marketing activities

• Substantial leadership and management experience at a senior level in a Charity

• Track record of delivering key targets and managing change.

• Experience of managing people and the work of multi-disciplinary teams .

• Experience of developing and managing complex budgets

• Experience of commissioning, and managing contracts and project management.

• Experience of developing and nurturing partnerships and relationships
