Hours: 3–4 days per week (0.6–0.8 FTE)
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 per annum pro rata (depending on experience)

We provide practical support, positive experiences, and opportunities that help children thrive and feel valued, working in partnership with refuges, community organisations, and corporate supporters.
ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Management Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the finances, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and compliance with statutory requirements. The role will provide the CEO and Trustees with high-quality financial information to inform decision-making, risk management and the Charity's strategic objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP
• Leading financial strategy, planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting
• Overseeing monthly management accounts, statutory reporting and audit processes
• Ensure compliance with UK charity regulators, Companies House (if applicable) and HMRC requirements
• Production of monthly/quarterly management accounts and associated commentary
• Collation of year-end information for the annual accounts and liaising with external auditors
• Drafting going concern assessments and responses to management letters
• Monitoring adherence to the Charity’s reserves policy and use of unrestricted/restricted funding
• Overseeing Gift Aid claims for timely/accurate submissions and efficient processing
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
• Assisting with annual budgets and business planning
• Providing financial oversight of new campaigns and strategic initiatives
• Monitoring/forecasting cash-flow
• Monthly payroll processing
• Overseeing all transactional and bookkeeping aspects
• Managing the financial bookkeeper team
• Liaising with the bank and other external bodies
• Overseeing the production of VAT returns for the trading subsidiary
• Maintaining fundraising and donation records
• Advising trustees and committees with clear financial analysis
• Attending board meetings
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) with +5 years of accounting experience at a senior level
• Strong experience in the UK charity sector and knowledge of SORP FRS102
• Strong experience of accounting systems, including Sage 50 Accounts
• Proven ability to produce management accounts and budgets
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
• Excellent Excel skills
• E-commerce experience, including payment systems
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Excellent organisation and time management
• Team player with a can-do attitude and genuine passion for charitable work

Project Accountant

This is a fantastic time to be joining our ambitious and growing charity and we are keen to share this with likeminded and talented individuals. Brain Tumour Research is seeking a qualified and experienced accountant who is able to join our team on a Fixed Term contract (2-4 months) to support our team and undertake some important projects.
As the Project Accountant you will play a crucial role in helping the charity meet its strategic plans and objectives. You will be reconciling transactions between our internal records and those of our external partners, developing our cashflow model for our granting programme, housekeeping on our VAT records and more.

Senior Management Accountant

Join our busy Finance Directorate and play a key role in one of the UK’s leading conservation charities. We are expanding our Financial Planning and Reporting Team to support a major Finance Systems Replacement project, and we’re looking for a skilled finance professional to provide high-quality technical management accounting support on a fixed-term basis.
In this role, you will translate complex financial data into clear insights, prepare management information, support month-end processes, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation. You’ll create and discuss system-generated reports with non-finance teams, carry out analysis and forecasting, provide information for audit, support budget holders, and represent finance in stakeholder meetings.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Demonstrates the ability to produce clear, well-designed analyses that enhance core reporting by highlighting issues and trends requiring attention.
- Shows strong critical thinking, using probing questions to test, clarify and validate assumptions or face-value inferences.
- Communicates financial data clearly in both written and verbal formats to varied stakeholder groups, with the aim of informing and influencing decision-making.
- Has highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with and influencing senior management.
- Is a fully qualified accountant or qualified by experience.
- Works confidently to rigid reporting schedules and deadlines from day one.
- Possesses good working knowledge of accounting rules, regulations and standards relevant to the charity sector (including FRS 102 and the Statement of Recommended Practice).
- Shows the capability to analyse, interpret and present financial data clearly and accurately.
- Communicates financial information effectively to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Has experience within a medium-sized organisation (income £50m+) in preparing management reports for internal stakeholders.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Has experience managing large amounts of data in formats that are coherent, legible and easy to interpret.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Has experience working with accounting software in medium- to large-sized organisations (familiarity with Open Accounts is a bonus).
- Has experience communicating with internal stakeholders (including directors) as well as external auditors.
Additional Information
- The role can be hybrid within the UK however you may be periodically required to attend our HQ finance office at RSPB HQ in Sandy, Bedfordshire.
- This role may require some infrequent overnight stays away from home, depending on distance from HQ.
- This is a 6 month Fixed Term Full Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
