Job description

Every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury. It can affect anyone at any time. When it does, Headway is here to help.

Headway is the UK’s leading charity working to improve life after brain injury, supporting individuals and families from the moment it strikes.

This is a unique role in which you can make a direct difference to the lives of survivors and their families.

You will be responsible for assessing and processing applications to our Emergency Fund, which provides grants to help families and individuals cope with the sudden practical implications of life in the immediate aftermath of a brain injury.

Since its launch, the fund has distributed grants of almost half a million pounds to more than 2,000 families facing financial hardship.

Our grants have prevented people sleeping in their cars outside the hospital to save money on fuel; they have helped people to purchase essential items to enable them live independently after hospital discharge; and they have ensured families don’t have to make heart-breaking decisions about whether to put food on the table or fuel in the car.

You will also take charge of distributing our award-winning Brain Injury Identity Cards as part of our Justice Project.

The ID card aims to assist identification of brain injury survivors who come into contact with the criminal justice system and provide survivors with added confidence in everyday social scenarios.

The cards offer a simple solution to a tricky conversation and can make a real difference in helping people live independent lives and play an active role in their local communities.

If you’re interested in starting your career with a bang or giving meaning to your work by making a direct difference to the lives of vulnerable people, here’s your chance!

Some office work will be required, in either our Nottingham or South West London offices, with the option to work from home for part of the week.

  • Closing date for applications: 6th September 2022
  • Interviews: w/c 12th September 2022
  • Salary: c.£25,000

Headway is an equal opportunities employer.
Registered Charity No 1025852.
No agencies.
