This role is available on a fixed term 12-month contract, where you would work on a part-time basis (21 hours a week) and remote working arrangement. The salary on offer for this role is £42,750 FTE which would be pro-rated to £25,650.

Within this role you will play a key role providing generalist HR support across the organisation. You will coordinate and support with recruitment campaigns, onboarding processes, employee relations, performance management processes, learning and development activities, maintaining and developing HR policies and manage payroll. You will be the first point of contact for HR related queries and manage HR administration and systems.
 
To be successful in this role, you will be educated to UK Degree level (international Level 6) or equivalent qualification ideally in HR Management/professional HR qualification (CIPD level 5 or above). You will have demonstrable experience working in generalist/operational HR at a similar level within the UK, with knowledge of international employment mechanisms.
 
You will have experience of developing and implementing HR policy based on best practice and current legislation (UK and international). You will have experience of supporting multi-disciplinary teams in a remote working and multicultural environment. You will be an effective communicator role, with experience maintaining relationships with a variety of internal stakeholders. You will also have the ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
 
Desirably, you will have experience working within a network organisation and understanding of charity sector/international development and/or international membership organisations.

Our day centre service is currently open three days per-week offering respite, food and somewhere safe to be for anyone facing street homelessness. This role:

So far, the Parallel platform has been developed and maintained by a single volunteer developer. As we look to expand the project to reach many thousands more students each year, we are now looking for additional support to help maintain the platform, attend to daily issues and support with new feature development.

The Parallel platform is built with the following technologies:

Project Background

Come and join our award-winning place-based volunteering programme that works with residents living across Hackney and the City of London.

You will be based out in the community - the programme is based at GP practices - to engage, support and enable local residents and patients to deliver local services for themselves, to meet local needs. We support residents to come together, to share their skills and experience for the benefit of each other, to deliver local groups and activities such as a book group, film club, exercise classes or cooking group. Residents from diverse backgrounds and demographics attend these activities together and make new connections, building strong local communities, all working together to make their area a better place to live. People, many of whom are isolated across all ages, and who have difficult life circumstances, are brought together, providing each other with mutual support and encouragement to develop new skills and pursue life goals, and to feel better able to voice their concerns to services.

You will be joining a nationally recognised project - having won an award from the Royal Society of Public Health in November 2024 - to support residents to fulfil their personal goals, make connections with others, and design activities and services that meet local needs. You will also be supporting people to improve their mental and physical health through signposting them to appropriate services and encouraging them to talk to their GP if they have concerns; and will be working in partnership with GP practice staff to co-create volunteer roles to make the practice more efficient and a better place to visit.

Volunteer Centre Hackney is a medium sized charity (currently 30 staff) based in the London borough of Hackney, working to support local residents to realise their skills and passions through volunteering and social action, and to share these for the benefit of others.

We work with hundreds of diverse community organisations and deliver various programmes to help residents share their skills and deliver their own social action projects to improve people’s lives. This post will lead the community engagement work with young people across the three boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Westminster. You will lead SASH’s young persons’ outreach and engagement, and provide information, advice and support to young people on issues related to sexual health and wellbeing as well as signposting to appropriate services. A key component of the role will be to engage young people in the programme in

innovative and creative ways with an expectation to be delivering in outreach settings a minimum of three days a week.

The Manna Day Centre is a drop-in Centre for homeless and vulnerably housed single men and women. It is run by a team of project workers, under the Director, who are responsible for its smooth operation. Basic Services offered include food, showers, clothing, housing & welfare advice, medical care, and access to laptops. The Centre opens to service users 7 days a week, 8.30am– 1.30pm. The working week for this post is Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm each day.

The Senior Housing & Welfare Advice Worker must have a commitment to homeless people, which includes acceptance and respect. Responsibilities are shared among the team according to needs, skills and aptitudes. The annual salary is negotiable (depending on your experience) ranging from £33,775 to £41,359. Benefits include a pension scheme, travel loans and 25 days annual leave (plus time in lieu of bank holidays worked).

• Support the development and engagement of young people in a Food Growing Enterprise based at Ashburton Lodge.
• Work closely with Croydon Council and other partners to support young people to engage with a wide range of programmes and activities that are part of the ‘100 years of Ashburton Park Project’.
• Deliver open access sessions, group and one to one interventions with young people including; half term, afterschool, evenings and residentials, using a planned youth work curriculum.

The Ivy Street Family Centre is a little oasis of warmth and fun in the heart of Hoxton. We provide welcoming and relaxing spaces for children and their carers where everyone makes friends. We welcome mums, dads, childminders, nannies, grandparents and anyone else looking after under fives.

Ivy Street has a history of serving the local community for over 40 years. We punch well above its weight in terms of reach and impact, and you have the opportunity to build on this solid foundation to reach more people and organisations to improve lives and promote thriving relationships within families in Hackney.

THE ROLE

The main purpose of the role is to build a financially stable base for the work and impact of The Ivy Street Family Centre, by making full use of the income producing potential of our fabulous new centre.

You will work with our small, but wonderful and committed team of play workers to develop our range of services and increase the impact of Ivy Street in Hackney and beyond.

Title: Director of Operations

Reporting to: Ivy Street Family Centre Trustees

Salary: £32,000 (working 4 days/week) or £40,000 (5 days/week); scope for higher salary and/or annual bonus if sustainable funding targets achieved.

Benefits: Eligible to join our stakeholder pension scheme after passing probation.

Location: 54 Ivy Street, Hoxton, London, N1 5JE; up to one day per week working from home.

Hours: 28 (if working 4 days/week) or 35 hours (5 days/week)

Holiday entitlement: 22.5 days (if working 4 days/week) or 28 days (5 days/week)

Contract: Permanent

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations Director reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

1. Working with the Trustees

• Overall vision and mission setting: Developing the use of the services and the building and increase the impact of Ivy Street for the benefit of the local community.
• Fundraising: Raising funds from a variety of sources to ensure the long term financial security of the charity, particularly focussing on rental income from the facility.
• Financial: Overseeing finance (with the assistance of a Trustee Treasurer)  and ensuring that regular, accurate financial reports are provided to the Trustees and accurate records are kept, and providing an Annual Report for the annual accounts.
• Compliance: Ensuring that all legal requirements are met:
  • Health and Safety
  • HR
  • Safeguarding
  • All other policies and procedures including risk management.
• Community Impact: Nurturing of outside relationships with other organisations and services.
• Monitoring: Overseeing the quality and monitoring of our services.

2. Day to Day Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing a robust rental strategy to increase the use of the building for the long term financial security of Ivy Street and benefit of the local community.
• Networking with other organisations, charity partners and donors.
• Work with the staff team and trustees to develop and monitor the programme of activities and services.
• Overseeing staff and the activity programme.
• Overseeing the maintenance of the fabric of the building.
• Promoting the charity’s work with other organisations and in the local community.
• Ensuring that accurate financial and service records are kept.
• Developing and implementing a volunteer programme to support the work of the staff and provide opportunities for local people.

3. Reporting

• Attending Trustees meetings.
• Providing regular written reports to the Trustees for each trustees’ meeting.

4. Training

• Ensuring that appropriate training is available to all staff and volunteers.
• Pursuing self development by attending appropriate training courses/events and networking opportunities.

5. Equal Opportunities

6. Safeguarding

• Working with the staff and trustees to ensure that:
  • all staff and volunteers are following safeguarding procedures in accordance with the Safeguarding policy.
  • all DBS checks are up to date.
  • staff and trustees can access appropriate training.

• Undertaking other relevant duties as required, in consultation with the Trustees.

ABOUT YOU

Skills and Experience

• A good degree OR relevant professional qualification OR relevant experience.
• Experience of running a facility and programme of services.
• Demonstrable ability to develop and execute a business strategy or fundraising programme.
• Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team.
• Strong administrative ability; including computer literacy and experience.
• Willingness to work with volunteers and a positive attitude to their development, including an ability to undertake some on-the-job training.
• An awareness of the factors affecting inner city life and marginalised groups, and knowledge of the local community.
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities requirements.
