Join us as a Trustee – Fundraising & Grants Lead and help shape the future of Grantham Foodbank.

We’re looking for someone with energy, ideas and a passion for supporting our community. As part of our Board, you’ll help guide the strategic direction of Grantham Foodbank and ensure we remain strong, sustainable and ready to support local people in crisis.

In this lead role, you’ll use your fundraising or grant-writing experience to help us secure vital income, build partnerships and unlock new opportunities for growth. You don’t need to be a fundraising expert — just confident working with bids, building relationships and making a positive difference.

DETAILS:

Role: Trustee – Fundraising & Grants Lead
Organisation: Grantham Foodbank (part of The Trussell Trust network)
Location: Grantham / in-person meetings; project work can be done from home
Time Commitment: Approximately 6–8 hours per month, plus initial training
Term: Three-year term, renewable in line with the constitution

About the Role

Join us as a Trustee – Fundraising & Grants Lead and help shape the future of Grantham Foodbank.
You will share responsibility for the charity’s governance and strategic direction while taking the lead on fundraising and grant development to secure the funds we need to sustain and grow our impact in the local community.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead or support the Foodbank’s fundraising strategy, grants, and donor engagement

· Identify and pursue new income opportunities and local partnerships

· Keep the Board informed about fundraising performance, risks, and opportunities

· Act as an ambassador for Grantham Foodbank within the local community

About You:

· Experience or interest in fundraising, grants, or partnership building

· Strategic thinker with strong communication and relationship-building skills

· Commitment to Grantham Foodbank and Trussell Trust values

· Willingness to commit ~6–8 hours/month, attend Board meetings, and engage with board activities outside of meetings

Time Commitment / Meetings:

· Attend ~10 Board meetings per year (~3 hours each, plus a strategy and planning day)

· Additional time for reading papers, correspondence, and specific project work

Expenses:
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., travel to meetings) will be reimbursed. This is a voluntary role; no salary or honorarium is offered.

Our Community Volunteers are vital in enabling us to continue to feed the 3 million children we feed every day and to help us reach the next child. They use their talents in their communities to spread the story of Mary’s Meals.

What is the role of a Community Volunteer?

Some of the things you can do as a community volunteer:

• Help us to share our story – arrange and give Mary’s Meals talks to local community organisations, schools, churches and faith groups to raise vital awareness and funds
• Use your networks and contacts to book talks, stalls and events and help us share our story
• Organise fundraising events in your local area such as coffee mornings, quizzes, supermarket bag packs and bucket collections
• Organise film screenings in your community to show Mary’s Meals films
• Volunteer at local fundraising and awareness events such as film screenings, bucket collections or concerts
• Promote Mary’s Meals’ fundraising campaigns and events in your community and across their networks and contacts
• Distribute and display promotional materials
• Place collection tins in local community areas
• Host community engagement events about Mary’s Meals’ work

Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

Governance 

Our Board is the ultimate governance body for the charity, serving as stewards of its resources, and ultimately responsible for our strategy, operations and financial management. Our board ensures we comply with our governing document, charity law and pursue our objectives. They are responsible for providing support, guidance and decisions to the CWB team, ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. 

Trustees are elected for a 2-year term but with the opportunity to be re-elected. 

Trustee Responsibilities 

Strategy and Governance 

• Actively contribute to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets 
• Supporting high standards of governance and risk management 
• Ensuring the organisation is accountable and transparent in its activities 
• Ensuring compliance with relevant charitable and company legislation 
• Safeguarding the interests of Clowns Without Borders’s beneficiaries 

Advocacy 

• Acting as an ambassador for Clowns Without Borders
• Overseeing, and presenting budgets, accounts, and financial statements to the board 

Treasurer’s Responsibilities 

Overseeing the financial matters of the charity 

Ensuring proper accounts and records are kept 

Develop and/or review and implement financial and reserves policies 

• Be a point of contact and lead on issues relating to financial matters of the charity 

o Implementing and monitoring financial controls and ensuring relevant systems are in place 

o Liaising with charity’s director to ensure annual accounts are compliant with Charity Commission guidelines when necessary 

o Liaising with the charity’s independent examiner where appropriate.

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

What you will be doing

• Arranging to talk with potential beneficiaries (on the phone or face to face) at a mutually convenient time
• Understanding peoples’ support needs and gathering information to assess their circumstances
• Typing written case reports to apply for financial assistance
• Sign-posting to services providing specialist support, such as mental health or housing support
• Keeping beneficiaries and the SSAFA regional office up to date with progress
