Job Purpose:
To be an integral part of the Philanthropy team, providing stewardship to individuals, trusts and foundations, and corporate supporters (typically, yet not exclusively, at the £5,000 to £20,000 level). You will be responsible for a portfolio of major donors, ensuring their continued support of MSF.

Organisational Background
The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to rescue academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. A number of Cara’s founders and Council members also personally provided places and/or funds to help individual academics; and Cara, known in the 1930s as the AAC, later the SPSL, was closely involved in the successful effort in 1933 to bring to London the Warburg Institute art library, which had been prohibited by the Nazis, and six of its staff. The Fellowship Programme is the continuation of the rescue mission operation started in 1933.
Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for just over 90 years, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Cara support is typically framed as temporary sanctuary offered at times of heightened risk.

They require a Customer Services & Administration Manager to join them on a temporary basis starting ASAP, this role will run for a few months, and ideally the temp will be considered for a more permanent position in the charity. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week, requiring you to be in the London office a few days per week to ensure the smooth running of the office and to manage the team of direct reports. If you prefer, you can work remotely the rest of the week. This is a busy, and varied role, the bulk of the role is managing the supporter care function, managing the efficiency of processing income, coupled with people management and office management.
The Customer Services and Administration Manager will ensure that the team functions efficiently and effectively to deliver an excellent customer care service. The team respond to Gift Aid questions and queries, and process credit and debit card donations made via the supporters, both online and by phone. You will support the maintenance of the charity's BACS and direct debit system and producing direct debit claims in line with BACS rules and regulations.
You will conduct weekly 1-2-1's with your several direct reports, and attend any important meetings required. Other duties include ensuring the office and processing runs smoothly, managing the staff rota system, financial administration, dealing with any complaints and ensuring supporters are receiving the highest level of customer care.

· Provide support with events and admin as needed, including attendance at functions outside of normal working hours.
Ideal skills and experience:
· Experience in generating income from all or one or two of the following: individual, community and events fundraising.
· Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write compelling stories and innovative content for fundraising campaigns.
· A strong understanding of the importance of knowing your supporter base to maximise income through effective donor communication and engagement.
· Strong data management and analysis skills
· Good knowledge of current data protection/GDPR regulation.
· Good working knowledge of CRM databases and how to utilise to steward supporters.
· Good level of administrative and organisational competency
· Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases (currently Donorfy and Act!)
·Previous experience working in a charity/non-profit
· Willingness to attend events and meetings etc, for which expenses will be paid.

Reporting to the individual giving manager, you will work with the team, assisting on the delivery of successful fundraising propositions and campaigns. You will be responsible for managing the administration and promotion of all fundraising platforms, as well as managing our payroll giving programme. Alongside the individual giving manager, you will also be responsible for planning and delivering campaigns such as our Christmas catalogue, advent, and gift aid direct mail, ensuring they are delivered within the expenditure budget.
We are looking for someone creative, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to coordinate and multi-task. You will be numerate and analytical, well organised with a flexible approach and an excellent team player. The individual will be proficient in Microsoft applications.

As Personal Assistant, you will provide effective support to the UK Director, the Board, and other members of the senior management team. Who are we looking for?
Ideal candidates will have experience working within the charity sector, and experience working with senior staff in a busy and varied environment. Previous PA experience would be a key advantage although not essential. You will operate independently, making high level decisions on behalf of the UK director where appropriate.
