Voluntary Action Harrow is looking for a Health Inequalities & Community Engagement Officer to work within our Stronger Communities team. Stronger Communities aims to remove barriers to accessing healthcare, increase community engagement and co-production and reduce health inequalities in the borough of Harrow. We are particularly interested in increasing engagement from communities in deprived areas and encouraging applications from those who might be under-represented in our work.

Responsibilities

• To create and share accessible information resources for community groups and individuals.
• To manage and update social media channels and our easy-to-use website, creating accessible graphics that help promote the work we are doing.
• To deliver and attend community events, aiming to raise awareness about health issues and making sure communities have access to accurate information.
• To carry out light-touch research, so we are able to feed-back the views of communities to policymakers. .
• To develop positive working relationships and clear communication with other local voluntary & community sector (VCS) organisations and healthcare providers.
• To help other VCS organisations improve awareness and engagement of health inequalities and disparities.
• To organise and support representation at community meetings, forums and networks, encouraging attendance.
• To develop and deliver on-the-ground awareness, focusing on areas with high footfall, such as train stations, supermarkets etc.
• To utilise and support management of volunteers in the facilitation of role.
• To support the creation of reports, presentations and feedback
• To support and communicate campaigns through newsletters and communication channels.
• To build and maintain relationships with people from different communities who are willing to share their stories to be used as case studies to promote our work.

Who are we?

Voluntary Action Harrow Co-operative work with the local community providing information, training and guidance.

Based in Harrow, we are a not-for-profit co-operative owned by our workers. We have in-depth knowledge of the local area and of who’s doing what. Our members collectively have over 35 years’ experience in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, specialising in capacity building in a variety of different organisational development areas.

We’ve worked with a diverse range of local organisations, from small community groups, to regional and international charities. We also run, manage and co-ordinate projects, working with local people and groups to help them make a difference in their local community.

To support our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Trusts and Statutory Fundraising Officer to join our small yet dynamic Fundraising team to help grow our income through Charitable Trusts and Foundations and from Statutory bodies. · Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of £50k+ prospects, working with fundraising and operational colleagues to develop high-value, strategic and multi-year opportunities.

• Prepare and submit compelling funding applications to trusts and foundations and other grant making bodies to grow income.

· Account manages key Trusts & Statutory funders, leading on the development of impact reports, and ensuring a bespoke and memorable stewardship experience by developing plans for key funders.

• Excellent written communication skills, with evidence of creating bespoke written proposals and reports for Trusts and Foundations and Statutory grant making bodies.

Urban Saints are looking for a Resources Coordinator to join the team as maternity cover. This is a key role that will oversee Urban Saints' online digital resources platform (Energize). The platform has a growing customer base, and with increasing opportunities to equip youth workers in reaching young people who are not stuck into church, this role is an essential one to ensure our subscribers are well-resourced to reach the young people they encounter.

Taking them from beginner to qualified snowsports instructors in just one year with volunteering and apprenticeship progression routes available at the end. This is a really exciting opportunity to play a key role in Snow Camp’s development in London, with programmes running from The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempsted. The Services Manager (Housing) will primarily focus on the managing New Horizon's Housing Advice service, delivered both from the day centre and remotely. You will work with the Head of Services to ensure the service responds holistically to young people with multiple needs or barriers.  You should be experienced in the housing and homelessness sector, be a passionate advocate for young people. and have the ability to motivate a team to deliver high quality services in a fast-paced environment. You should be skilled in partnership management and able to collaborate to identify new housing solutions for young people.

The Welfare Adviser will provide high quality specialist welfare benefits and housing advice, information and guidance to our service users, referring them internally and externally for additional advocacy and support as required, following organisational policies and procedures, and ensuring fulfilment of regulatory compliance with our Advice Quality Standard (AQS) accreditation, meeting the standards of quality in the delivery of advice services as required. 2. Manage an adequate caseload of enquiries from LAH service users in a condition of extreme financial need, including those who are homeless  (or on the brink of homelessness).
3. To contribute to the development of LAH Advice Programme, which aims to provide frontline, one-to-one advice and casework in key areas of need for the community, including welfare entitlements, housing, employment and immigration.

About the role

This role is a job-share working with an existing Executive Assistant who is spending part of her time supporting the Director of Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns (PPC) and the PPC department. This role entails working with a wide range of groups internal and external to Christian Aid. The role will support the Director, taking on key pieces of work, including minutes taking and report of meetings, assisting with email, liaising with colleagues and other assistants, coordinating hosted events and stakeholder lists, planning logistics, booking travel and accommodation, editing and proofreading documents, conducting research, scheduling appointments and other administrative tasks, as appropriate.

About you

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, research and organisational skills with a bias for action, the ability to think laterally and deliver results. You will have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with senior professionals inside and outside the organisation. You are someone that keeps calm under pressure and is able to manage assignments with sound judgement and with multitasking capabilities. You will have an eye for detail, good IT skills, strong interpersonal skills and the motivation and interest in the Charity Sector or International Development. You will have a degree or post-graduate qualification in the humanities, social sciences or related disciplines or comparable experience.

Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week (8 hours within the hours of 9 am to 6 pm with 1 hour’s lunch break) + one day of weekend support hub per month

Working days: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (and one weekend day a month)

Reporting to: CEO & Team Manager

Location: Mostly office-based with once-a-month offsite location (office, occasional home and offsite) Office is based in the City of London near Bank station

Salary: £18,000 per annum for 3 days a week (Pro-rata of £30k)

*Overtime is compensated either by pay or time off in lieu 

Holiday: Pro-rata of 30 days a year excluding bank holidays plus holiday office closure (before New Year’s holidays) and 1 day of annual mental health leave

Contract: 18 months temporary contract, 6 months probationary period

Start date: 1st July 2024 (Notice period will be considered with those who have notice periods) The first round of interviews will be scheduled for the week of 5th June 2024.

Key Responsibilities

Community mobilisation, organisation, fundraising, case management, survivor support

Overall Responsibilities

• Facilitate educational and direct support programs, through data-driven research and community engagement

• Create a stable foundation for projects, events, and development

• Organise, run and develop The Vavengers award-winning support & wellness hubs for women and girls

• Manage referral process connecting women and girls with other organisations and local authorities

• Develop bids and secure grants to cover core and project costs

• Manage the nationwide expansion of the support hub model 

• Build and maintain partnerships with aligned stakeholders

• Lead and improve community projects through concept development, fundraising and relationship management

• Support the C-suite with business development in line with the business plan

• Support the wider team on events & campaign management 

Day-to-day tasks

• Organise, run and report on support & wellness hubs for women and girls, and be the face of the support hub programme 

• Support the community through referrals to local authorities and partner organisations on housing, immigration, food security and access to other essential services. Following up and communicating with beneficiaries throughout the process 

• Identify and eliminate safeguarding risks

• Identify need gaps within communities and fulfil crisis and emergency management plans, help prepare the organisation for unexpected urgent response work

• Amplify the voice of the communities we support 

• Identify and highlight the ongoing issues faced by the women and girls we support with the team and external stakeholders

• Organise and manage programme facilitators and role-related volunteers

• Map out fundraising opportunities and secure funding through written grant applications and manage funding processes from start to end including mid and end-journey reports 

• Develop and maintain the existing community ambassadorship programme by listening to community needs and helping to implement solutions

• Maintain strong relationships. Including with Community Ambassadors, Wellness Ambassadors, programme facilitators, existing or potential partners and funders, and be a reliable point of contact for seamless communication

• Expand community engagement through offsite outreach and partnerships with local councils, grassroots organisations, healthcare professionals, community leaders and sector partners (*The Vavengers works with over 150 partnerships across the UK)

• Work collaboratively to ensure that new programs align with the charity’s mission, vision and purpose

• Be an active advocate for The Vavengers mission and community

Additional Responsibilities

• Oversee governance activities of volunteers (volunteer contracts, reports and management)

• Managing DBS clearances and background checks for the required board, staff and volunteers and acting as one of the safeguarding officers of the organisation

• Assist with and contribute to offsite educational workshops where appropriate

• Organising the sourcing and delivery of essential items from partners

• Managing project budgets and an expense account

Checks and training: Please note, that this role will be subject to a clear DBS check. The Vavengers will also provide mandatory training required by the role including Safeguarding for Children and Vulnerable Adults Level 3, Gender-Based Violence training, language and terminology and necessary software training.
