About Carney’s Community
We support young people living in and around Wandsworth, targeting ages 11-30 facing extreme challenges including criminal justice system involvement or care experience. Carney’s works differently by providing long-term, consistent, unconditional support with empathy; a safe space and activities including boxing, bike workshops, employment support, studio sessions, mentoring and key work. Inspired by boxing legend Mick Carney, the charity was founded in his name after his passing in 2011, building on work led by our co-founders. We aim to create a “virtuous cycle”: while support is free of charge, we ask that when young people are ready, they channel the positivity they have received into others. As a result, many go on to volunteer, mentor, join our staff team or even set up their own community initiatives. Former participants make up the majority of our workforce. They provide the most authentic role models, people who genuinely understand the challenges our young people face and who show what is possible. For our young people we strive for equality and aim to: Improve Physical and Mental Health; Improve Education, Skills and Employability; Improve Community Engagement; Reduce Offending and Reoffending.
About the role:
Single Homeless Project (SHP) and Islington Council are proud to introduce St. John’s Mansions - a brand-new, purpose-built accommodation service that will provide safe, high-quality housing for individuals experiencing homelessness and facing multiple exclusion. This innovative project is backed by the GLA’s Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP), and represents a bold step forward in tackling homelessness across North London. SHP are building a dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking team to bring this vision to life.
St. John’s Mansions will offer 19 beautifully finished self-contained studio flats, designed to support residents in their journey from rough sleeping and emergency accommodation to independent living. With a stay of up to 24 months, residents will receive tailored, high-intensity support to help them build the skills and confidence needed to thrive independently.
The service will operate 24/7, with a welcoming reception and dedicated staff & clients spaces to enable both structured interventions and spontaneous, meaningful engagement. SHP will be working not only within Islington but in partnership with five North London boroughs - Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, and Westminster. You’ll hold a caseload of clients and take the lead on delivering person centred, strengths based support that is grounded in PIE and trauma informed approaches. This includes completing holistic assessments, co-producing support plans and risk management plans, and working consistently towards move on goals. Alongside this, you’ll play a key role in the day to day running of the service, working closely with colleagues and partner agencies to maintain a safe, well managed environment, respond to emerging needs, and ensure each client receives coordinated, high quality support that supports their journey into independent living.
This is more than just housing – it is a bridge to a better future. In this role, you’ll work closely with adults living in our accommodation, building trusting relationships and supporting them to take positive steps towards independence. Each day brings the chance to empower clients to manage their homes, connect with specialist services, and rebuild confidence, purpose and community in their lives.
About you:
- You bring experience supporting adults through change, helping them set goals, overcome challenges and build independence.
- You stay calm under pressure and respond confidently to complex or crisis situations.
- You work collaboratively with partners and colleagues to create joined-up, effective support for every client.
- You’re organised, proactive and comfortable managing your own caseload and priorities.
- You share SHP’s belief that everyone has strengths, potential and the right to a safe, fulfilling life beyond homelessness.
About us:
We’re London’s leading homelessness charity – and we get things done.
In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.
We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.
Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.
We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.

The role is predominantly focused on families resettled from Afghanistan, although support may be provided to people arriving through other schemes as well.
What you'll be doing
You'll work directly alongside refugee families as they settle into life in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and wider Dorset, helping them navigate unfamiliar systems, access services and become active members of their new communities.
Your work will include:
- Supporting individuals and families with housing, utilities and practical day-to-day needs
- Helping people access healthcare, education, benefits and other key services
- Supporting access to ESOL classes, volunteering and employment opportunities
- Accompanying people to appointments and meetings when needed
- Helping families build confidence, independence and connections within their local communities
· Working closely with local authorities, schools, health professionals, volunteers and other partners
· Maintaining accurate records and case notes
· Assisting with the preparation of homes prior to new arrivals moving in

The next, you could be preparing a property for a newly arrived family or working with local partners to ensure the right support is in place.
Why this role matters
Moving to a new country after experiencing conflict, persecution or displacement can be overwhelming.
This role helps people rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and hope. You'll play a key part in helping families settle safely, access opportunities, understand their new community and begin to thrive.
From supporting a child starting school for the first time, to helping a family access healthcare or secure employment, your work will have a direct and lasting impact.

- Have experience supporting vulnerable individuals or families
- Are compassionate, practical and solution-focused
- Can build positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
- Are confident working independently and managing your own caseload

- Have excellent communication skills
- Are comfortable working collaboratively with a range of agencies and professionals
- Share our commitment to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants
- Are supportive of ICN's Christian ethos and values

Waking Night Support Worker
Night Shelter Southampton
42 Hours per week, on a rota basis of 4 on and 4 off
Salary Point: 20 (£29,453 per annum for 42 hours per week)
About Us
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. We believe that every person is of worth and we are prepared to take risks to house and support the most at risk and socially excluded members of society.
The Impact You’ll Make
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be on the frontline of providing a safe, trauma-informed service for vulnerable adults in Southampton who are rough sleeping or at immediate risk of it. You will be the steady presence throughout the night, ensuring service users who have no other safe housing options feel welcomed and secure.
Your role is vital to the smooth running of the shelter, from the initial intake at 20:30 through to the morning transition. Whether you are conducting security patrols, assisting with housing management, or simply offering emotional support and de-escalation, your work directly contributes to a safe environment where individuals can begin their journey away from the streets.

As this role involves a "4 on, 4 off" night shift pattern, you must be comfortable working independently during the night while maintaining strong communication with your wider team and the Operational Security Team. We value staff who take initiative, maintain clear professional boundaries, and are committed to the safety and wellbeing of our service users.
Essential Qualities and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- Experience & Knowledge: A background in working with vulnerable adults and an understanding of safeguarding, protection protocols, and lone working procedures.
- Communication: The ability to listen and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, including providing clear handovers regarding risks.
- Crisis Management: Confidence in using your initiative to respond to emergencies and the ability to carry out risk assessments and management plans.
- Administrative & IT Literacy: Sufficient IT skills to use data management systems (INFORM), update online handovers, and complete incident reports by the end of your shift.
- Commitment to Safety: A proactive approach to health and safety, including a willingness to undertake training in administering naloxone and acting as a Fire Warden or First Aider.
- Practicality: Willingness to assist with site management, including setting out breakfast, managing laundry/linen, and ensuring communal areas remain clean.
What we can offer you
We value and recognise our staff, offering some generous benefits, as well as the satisfaction of helping people at risk:
- A competitive annual leave entitlement of 25 days rising to 30 days, plus public holidays
- Flexible working options
- Buying additional annual leave
- Comprehensive induction and training
- Counselling, financial, personal support and health and wellbeing services via our Employee Assistance Programme
