Bow Foodbank is proud to have developed a highly trusted relationship with our guests and the community. We are often the first point of call for people when they are starting to struggle financially. We want to use our trusted place in the community to support our guests with more than just food, helping to connect them into a wide range of services and community groups - aiming to help guests to build their resilience and move them away from the causes of poverty. We want to do this in a way that builds dignity so will aim to follow up with them the impact of any referrals and how they have improved guest wellbeing. Full time (35 hours per week – flexible working requests considered).
This is a hugely exciting time to join our team, with a bold new brand soon to be launched, providing the perfect platform to amplify the work we are already doing. For the first time, we are working to a dedicated sub-strategy that outlines our vision for collaborating with our volunteers and our communities to strengthen the role of the hospice throughout Greenwich and Bexley.
As Head of Community Development & Volunteering, you will lead the team that delivers our core volunteering programme and our community outreach programme, as well as innovative programmes which span both areas of the role, such as our Compassionate Neighbours and Young Ward Volunteers programmes, as well as developing and building upon the links we are establishing with local groups who are keen to be learn more about and play a more important role in shaping hospice care. You will ensure that our priorities keep pace with a changing external landscape, identifying and leading new ways for the hospice to be an anchor institution in our local community.
You will draw on the valuable lessons we learned during the pandemic to drive innovation and deliver sustainable opportunities that contribute towards our ongoing success, whilst growing and nurturing our small but talented team.
If you’re an enthusiastic and strategic leader with a passion for community impact, do get in touch – we would love to hear from you.

Exeter-based cancer charity, Force, is well known and much loved for its incredible work supporting people who have had a cancer diagnosis and their families with a range of support. Their longstanding CEO is now retiring and the search has begun to find that special person to lead the charity into the future. We are delighted and honoured to be supporting the Board with this important appointment.
The current CEO has worked hard to ensure that the nurturing and caring aspect of the charity’s work is reflected across the organisation. You can see this in the way that everyone is treated – clients, families, staff, volunteers, supporters and trustees. We are looking for someone who understands and upholds these values but equally has the resilience and clarity of thought to navigate through the complex landscape of cancer services and support. You will have held a senior leadership role within the voluntary sector for at least two years and understand the legal framework within which charities operate. Previous experience of working with a voluntary Board of trustee/directors will be hugely helpful and, naturally, you will be financially astute.
Of course, you will be an inspiring and confident communicator, able to engage with and present to a range of audiences as well as working with local media.
