Are you a highly-organised, unflappable administrator with the ability to manage competing priorities in a timely manner? The Student Christian Movement is looking for someone to lead the administration function of our small but mighty charity.
Responsible to the CEO, you will work across the charity, acting as secretary to our board of Trustees, responsible for HR and payroll function, act as line manager to two administrators, and add to the sustainability of the organisation by writing and submitting robust trust funding applications.
SCM has six members of staff, all but one of whom are part time, and achieves a great deal. Supporting progressive Christian students and members across the country to put their faith into action, no two weeks are ever the same. We are a dynamic and energetic organisation, working to challenge injustice and exclusion, grow thoughtful disciples and create community.
Each SCM community is different, but students can expect to find a warm welcome as well as activities including bible study, prayer, campaigns and social action, talks, discussions, and socials. As a national movement we come together at regional and national events to learn more about our faith and spend time as a community. We take action on issues of social justice chosen by our members.

The role
This is a pivotal role that will shape and drive the growth and diversification of our clean energy access work, including our flagship Low Energy Inclusive Appliances (LEIA) programme and the Efficiency for Access Coalition, managed in partnership with CLASP and funded by UK Aid via the Transforming Energy Access Platform and the IKEA Foundation.
What you’ll do
Together with the Senior Programme Manager, you’ll co-lead the Strategy, Policy and Partnerships work within LEIA, with a focus on strategy development and solidifying our role as a thought leader and key influencer. You’ll provide strategic direction and sector expertise to the energy access team to inform, support and guide programme delivery, ensuring a cross-workstream effort towards the achievement of overarching goals. Also you’ll lead the delivery of a range of strategic projects and stakeholder coordination activities.
Working with colleagues and partners you’ll lead the development of innovative and distinctive concepts and support fundraising efforts with a focus on initiatives that respond to needs, add value and deliver impact. You’ll nurture key stakeholder relationships and build and cultivate strategic partnerships to realise our strategic goals within and across key sectors, including energy, agriculture and humanitarian.
You’ll be an ambassador for Energy Saving Trust work, both internally and externally, working with colleagues to build our profile and position us for future growth.
What you’ll bring

• You have a collaborative spirit and an ability to inspire and manage joint working in complex, multi-disciplinary teams, in partnership with others. You’ve worked with or for major international donor funds, have a track record of delivering results and can manage a number of projects and tasks in parallel effectively.
• You have a deep knowledge of off- and weak-grid appliance technologies, market barriers and solutions in Sub Saharan Africa and South Asia and a good understanding of international energy / climate policy, (Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Climate Agreement), regulations, delivery and funding landscapes.
• You have an established network of key stakeholder relationships in relevant sectors, including donors, investors, programme implementers, private sector actors and academia, and a proven ability to build, nurture and influence relationships at a senior level.
• You have experience of realising new opportunities and fundraising from international donors. You understand the challenges that exist and possess a creative flair for designing high-impact initiatives to overcome them, in partnership with others.
• You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and like your work to be collaborative and fun! You’re prepared for regular international travel, are experienced at working with diverse people from different cultures, backgrounds and fields, and comfortable working remotely, in geographically dispersed teams.

Do you want to make a difference to the lives of students and equip them to put their faith into action?
SCM is looking for a recent graduate to spend a year working with us to help us to continue to build on the work of our successful Faith in Action project.
Run in partnership with Project Bonhoeffer, a small charitable trust, the project began in 2012 with a vision that Christian students in Britain would have a greater awareness and understanding of Bonhoeffer’s radical approach to faith and discipleship, and its implications for Christian living in the modern world.
The project has helped to run over a dozen campaigns from Food Poverty to Peace, and had an immeasurable impact on thousands of students through blogs, resources, and relationships. All of this is bringing to light many ‘Bonhoeffers’ of today negotiating the implications on Christian living in the world.
In 2021 we developed the Faith in Action project as a graduate scheme by employing two graduates to work on the project; one to lead on theology bringing a depth of learning and theological refection, and the other to be a campaigns lead, taking us always back out into the world to make a difference.
The project has been very successful, and now we are looking to grow it for further. We are looking for a passionate graduate to join the project for the 2025-26 academic year.
In this role, you will be a theologian to make other theologians, and will provide the framework for students to be able to reflect theologically on their life and modern Christian Living. You will be responsible for growing the breadth of SCM’s Faith in Action resources, and discovering new ways of connecting with the current membership via the trends of social media or engaging in face-to-face reflections. An activist to make other activists, you will coordinate social action for SCM, engaging the membership in social justice projects that maximise our impact in society and the world.
You will work to build relationships between SCM communities and members to equip students with the skills they need to become faith-filled agents of social and political change and lead them in theological reflection to discern their involvement in local and national campaigns. You will also work to develop relationships with other Christian social justice and campaigning organisations to create opportunities for students to put their faith into action. In all of this, you will be supported by our small but perfectly-formed team, who will share your values and fully understand your aims in this project.
The role will require some travel within Britain, as well as semi-regular visits to the office in Birmingham, which may also include an overnight stay. All reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed. Some evening and weekend work may be required for which time off in lieu will be given.
