Role Summary
The Grants & Advisory Caseworker will join a small, passionate team, dedicated to supporting individuals and families in financial need. You will process and assess grant applications, analyse financial and personal circumstances and make grant awards under your own delegated authority level, occasionally escalating to management and Trustees, where appropriate. Your empathetic approach and signposting expertise will empower applicants to access advice and guidance from internal and external resources, and ensure our support has a lasting impact on their situation.
Key Responsibilities
· Process a range of applications for assistance to help low-income families with grants towards essential needs. Analyse information against criteria, interpret financial information, liaise with other outside agencies and reach awards and recommendations on financial assistance.
· Monitor and respond to requests for assistance via telephone, email and post.
· Ensure all communications are personalised, reflective and demonstrate empathy and an understanding of individual circumstances.
· Maintain detailed and accurate case and financial records, logging data received, and actions taken in line with current policies and procedures.
· Draw on all available resources to offer support to beneficiaries, advise beneficiaries on possible benefit entitlements and signpost to other sources of support, where appropriate.
· Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the role in line with procedures and Data Protection legislation.
· Share in team related tasks including daily case prioritisation, first line assessment (triage), emergency applications and payments.

About the Role
As Media Lead you will be responsible for running the charity's busy press office and you will play a central role in shaping how Victim Support is seen and heard in the media. You'll write and deliver a strategic Media Plan that positions the charity as a trusted and recognised victims' voice, increases the profile of our services and contributes to influencing positive change.
This is a hands-on role where you'll manage media enquiries, build trusted relationships with journalists and ensure our spokespeople are briefed and supported for interviews. You'll work closely with colleagues across external affairs, social media and frontline services, and provide expert media advice to senior leaders. You'll also line manage our Stories Officer and oversee our Stories Library, giving a platform to victims' voices and experiences.

Role Purpose

Terms and benefits:
Terms: The role will be full-time (37.5 hours/week) permanent contract - we will consider well-structured JobShare applications. As we often work with volunteers, occasional evening and weekend work will be required and compensated through TOIL. Occasional but limited UK or European travel will be required (by arrangement).
We are open to exploring flexible working arrangements and supporting you to meet commitments you may have.
Salary: £39,705
Location: You must be based in the UK. We have an office in Farringdon, London, where London-based staff typically work at least two days a week. If you are based outside of London, the role will be home-based.
We hold quarterly all-staff strategy meetings and annual away days which you will be required to attend in person: we will cover the cost of your travel. You will be required to come together with the team occasionally and these travel costs will not be covered, we try our best to keep these to when only necessary.
Language Skills & Visa Status: Candidates must be fluent in English and have the independent right to work in the UK for a minimum of two years, as we are unable to provide visa sponsorship.
Holiday: 22 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, as well as an additional 3 days between Christmas and New Year when the office and our services are closed.
Employer pension contribution: We offer a 3% employer pension contribution, that you will auto enrol for after 3 months of employment with SCN.
Additional Paid Time Off: We offer 2 days of paid voluntary time off, encouraging all staff to serve as trustees or any equivalent voluntary positions to contribute to their communities

The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is an independent charity established in 1967. For over 57 years, we have promoted our vision of a society in which people can live safely and are treated with equal dignity and respect, regardless of where they are from or how they came to the UK.
To achieve this, we provide legal advice, representation and holistic support to migrants experiencing injustice, poverty, and discrimination; we undertake parliamentary advocacy and expert policy analysis; we speak out and challenge damaging and discriminatory media narratives about immigration; we use law as a tool of resistance; we work in solidarity with migrants and grassroots groups, and we build campaigns that both build power and influence power; working towards radically transforming immigration and asylum law and policy.
JCWI has been through a period of transition over recent years, with pressures on the organisation, its staff, capacity, and resources increased by successive political attacks on migrant communities, the eroding of migrants’ rights through legal and policy change, the rise of the far-right in the UK and the widening gap between the rich and powerful and Britain’s multi-racial working class.
It is in this context that JCWI is seeking an empathetic and collaborative leader given we are in a time of immense political upheaval both in the UK and across borders. We need someone who can unite us towards a refreshed collective resistance to increasingly unfettered state and corporate power.
The successful candidate is likely to have a sound grasp of the key issues JCWI works on and the political climate in which the organisation operates, to provide confident leadership and strategic guidance to all teams, and to maintain and build relationships with key stakeholders. This includes setting and reviewing the organisation's objectives within the framework of the five-year strategy, developing and reviewing the annual business plan and fundraising plan, maintaining JCWl's relationships with trusts, foundations, and other key partners, and acting as one of the lead spokespeople for the organisation in the media and elsewhere.
