How are staff supported to work remotely?

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Housing Support Worker to provide high quality practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children living in our dispersed refuge accommodation in Warwickshire.

You will be joining the Warwickshire Dispersed Safe Accommodation service. This service will provide emergency safe accommodation across Warwickshire with high-quality domestic abuse support, ‘by-and-for’ services for survivors of domestic abuse and their children. Housing Support Workers will work closely with the Floating Support Workers and Child Support Workers (who provide the personal support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children) to ensure that the emergency accommodation and support meets the whole range of survivors’ needs.

The post holder will be responsible for the Health and Safety and maintenance of emergency safe accommodation units in multiple 1–3-bedroom properties across Warwickshire. This will include the practical set up and maintenance of home furnishings and utilities in each property and the management of the cleaning and replacements required between each use of the accommodation unit.

The post holder will provide support to survivors fleeing domestic abuse around accessing housing benefit for the dispersed accommodation and support survivors with exploring and accessing move on accommodation.

The Housing Support Worker (HSW) will be responsible for ensuring that the properties will maintain Refuge’s accommodation standards and comply with all Health and Safety legislation and requirements. 

As part of this role, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call rota.

About this key role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Health and Safety Advisor to join a well-established Health and Safety Team with a varied health and safety portfolio based from our  Head Office at Stockport with travel across the country.  You will work with many different teams across Creative Support to help services undertake work activities in a safe way. You will provide advice, support services and go out to our services around the UK. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues to support Creative Support’s health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and systems. The main focus of your role will be to:

- Conduct planned health and safety inspections and audits

- Carry out responsive inspections and safety reviews

- Undertake specific risk assessments and devise risk management plans

- Produce written inspection and other reports on a timely basis

- Contribute to health and safety related training

- Provide practical and professional health and safety advice and assistance to staff.

You will need the following qualities and skills:

- You enjoy helping people and solving problems

- You have some knowledge of social care or property services.

- You are confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and databases.

This role offers the chance to work within a rewarding environment and have the responsibility of supporting and managing the Health and Safety function while making improvements to process, practices and procedures. This role will require you to spend time away from the office in services during the week.  The general working pattern will be Monday to Friday with very occasional travel on the weekend. The working pattern and hours are flexible due to the nature of the role however you must be prepared to travel and work form the office. For over five decades, the Renewal Programme has been a trusted cornerstone of the community in the London Borough of Newham, tackling the root causes and consequences of poverty, isolation, and disadvantage.

Role overview

This role is central to our mission to support sustainable living, reduce food waste, tackle local food insecurity, and foster meaningful community connections. As a key part of delivering the vision set out in our National Lottery-funded RenewALL Hub proposal, you will ensure our food provision goes beyond meeting immediate needs to build inclusion, wellbeing, and pathways into wider community support.

Your primary responsibility will be to secure regular donations of surplus food by developing and maintaining strong partnerships with local supermarkets, shops, restaurants, and national redistribution organisations like the Newham Food Alliance, Felix Project, and Feeding Britain.

You will manage the effective use of this food across our services, including the foodbank, food pantry, warm meals programme, and cooking classes. This will involve careful stock management, menu planning, and coordinating with lead staff to ensure our food provision meets Newham’s environmental, health, and cultural needs. A key part of this will be overseeing the successful operation and promotion of our expanded food pantry.

Coordinating volunteers will be essential, particularly in managing and expanding our cargo bike fleet for surplus food collection and redistribution. You will also explore opportunities to monetise these sustainable transport services. To further engage the community, you will organise and host quarterly workshops on reducing food waste and eating on a budget.

Ultimately, you will play a vital role in coordinating our surplus food operations, managing volunteer teams, and strengthening partnerships to ensure our food services are impactful, sustainable, and community-led.

Key Responsibilities

Food Supply & Partnerships

• Secure regular surplus food donations from local supermarkets, shops, restaurants, farms, and redistribution networks (e.g., FareShare, Felix Project, Newham Food Alliance).
• Build strong partnerships with local and national food aid providers to maximise supply, reduce duplication, and ensure continuity of stock.
• Ensure culturally appropriate, nutritious food options are consistently available.

Food Service Delivery

• Lead the operational management of the RenewALL Food Pantry, ensuring it is welcoming, respectful, and centred on dignity and choice.
• Oversee twice-weekly pantry sessions, ensuring high-quality customer service, stock availability, and culturally relevant food.
• Maximise the effective use of volunteers in the operation of the pantry.
• Use the pantry as a gateway to wider support by integrating referrals into health, wellbeing, advice, and volunteering pathways.

Sustainable Food Initiatives & Logistics

• Manage and expand the cargo bike food redistribution programme, ensuring effective logistics, safety, insurance, and maintenance.
• Champion environmental sustainability, embedding low-waste, low-carbon practices across all food services.
• Organise and deliver quarterly workshops on food waste reduction and eating on a budget.

Volunteer Leadership & Team Management

• In partnership with the Volunteer Manager, recruit, train, and support volunteers across the Foodbank, Food Pantry, café, warm meals, and cargo bike services.
• Work with colleagues to develop food collection rotas, provide training (food safety, customer care), and ensure smooth operations across all food-related services.
• Foster an inclusive, positive volunteer culture, ensuring volunteers feel valued and engaged.

Compliance, Monitoring & Resource Management

• Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and Environmental Standards, maintaining accurate records and certifications.
• Manage budgets effectively, ensuring value for money and accurate reporting.

Innovation & Development

• Work with colleagues to explore and develop revenue opportunities linked to sustainable food and transport initiatives (e.g., monetising cargo bike deliveries).
• Together with partners and colleagues, explore the implementation of employment focussed opportunities for residents, for example via deliveries on the cargo bikes.

  Project Awareness & Marketing

• Work with our marketing team to introduce creative community campaigns (e.g., Reverse Advent, seasonal drives, sponsorships) to encourage donations of both food and direct funds.
• Promote the projects with local partners, for example working with local schools to maximise harvest deliveries and raise the profile of the project.

Person Specification

Main purpose of post
An Appeal Support Officer is required to support the activity associated with a
major appeal for the charity. The appeal will raise £1.85m enabling a step change
in our support of Weston Park Cancer Centre.
Reporting to and working closely with our Senior Major Donor & Philanthropy
Manager, Appeal Consultant and Head of Fundraising, you will support the
coordination of appeal activity planning, as we undertake the public phase of the
appeal.
Supporting our established Appeal Board, you will coordinate communications,
prospecting and stewardship management of our major donor growth
programme and portfolio, as we build up both our private fundraising phase and
undertake our wider public fundraising activity.
You will help bring together a range of different public fundraising activities
planned for the next 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
 Support management of the appeal prospects portfolio, including research,
due diligence checks, profiles development and relationship management
plans.
 Coordinate and manage the appeal plan, including all facets of both the
private and public fundraising phases, liaising with appointed agencies and
contractors.
 Directly support the Appeal Board with communication, prospecting and
donor management planning, under the direct supervision and guidance of
the Senior Major Donor & Philanthropy Manager and Appeal Consultant.
 Act as a single point of contact for public appeal enquires and coordination
of supportive fundraising activity across the internal teams.
 Assist in the formulation of personalised stewardship plans and establish
effective systems to collate information about prospective and current
major donors, ensuring compliance with charity law, fundraising policies
and guidelines, GDPR and our organisational policies.
 Work alongside the team and support appeal event activity, including
planning, communication and coordination of guests, attending events as
required.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Appeal Support Officer
who would relish the opportunity to work on a transformational appeal that will

Experience of charity work and fundraising would be an added advantage in this
role, but we need a confident individual who is not phased with bringing together
different elements of a campaign plan to achieve a defined result.
Playing a key, interim role in the appeal, you will be able to quickly absorb

stewarding the appeal plan, monitoring risks and provide regular status
reporting.
