To deliver money and energy advice service for kidney patients struggling with their energy and water bills and other costs of living challenges. You will provide subject matter expert support within our Patient Support Services team, and will work closely with our Patient Support & Advocacy Officers to develop and grow this service in your area.
Summary
To raise awareness of the service and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other kidney stakeholder groups in your defined geographic region.
Key responsibilities
• With support, establish the Kidney Care UK Money & Energy Advice Service in the region for patients and carers at risk of fuel poverty to access independent support on money and energy matters
• Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Money & Energy Advice Service across the region, effectively managing an ongoing caseload
• Provide practical advice to patients, assessing their needs and identifying sources of support to resolve financial, practical and psychosocial challenges.

- Kidney Care UK Counselling Service and other appropriate services to meet patients’ emotional and physiological needs

Role description
As we begin to grow, we’re looking for a highly experienced Head of Finance & Compliance to ensure best-in-class financial governance, statutory obligations, and operational compliance.
This is a senior, hands-on role ideal for someone who has worked in a similar capacity within the charity or social enterprise sector. You’ll take ownership of our financial reporting, charity and company filings, risk management processes, and ensure we’re meeting all regulatory requirements — so our team can focus on delivery with confidence.
Key responsibilities
Finance
• Oversee day-to-day financial processes, working closely with external accountants.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes alongside the CEO.
• Monitor cash flow, manage financial risk, and prepare internal finance reports for the Board.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual accounts and external audit process.
• Support fundraising by preparing financial inputs for grant proposals and reports.
Governance & Compliance
• Act as Company Secretary: manage Board meetings, minutes, filings, and statutory record-keeping.
• Ensure full compliance with Companies House, Charity Commission, HMRC, and other statutory bodies.
• Maintain and update key internal policies (e.g. safeguarding, data protection, finance policy).
• Support risk register maintenance and ensure appropriate insurance coverage.
• Work closely with the CEO on contract management and legal compliance.
What we're looking for
• Significant experience in a senior finance, governance, or company secretarial role in the charity or non-profit sector.
• Strong working knowledge of UK charity finance and regulatory obligations. The organisation will be making grants from an early stage, so experience with grant-giving will be highly valuable.
• Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and professional integrity.
• Confident managing external advisers and auditors.
• Comfort with ambiguity and excitement at the prospect of an entrepreneurial, mission-driven organisation
• Passion for improving numeracy, providing opportunity, and social impact.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g. ICSA, ACCA, ACA, or CIPFA) are desirable but not essential if equivalent experience is demonstrated.

The Role

Operations & Administrative Support
- Support the implementation of systems for internal communication, knowledge management and team-wide collaboration.
- Oversee HR administrative tasks, including remote work logistics and coworking subscriptions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

What You Bring to the Team
- 5+ years of HR management / generalist experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proven ability to influence and coach leaders at all levels.
- Ability to multi-task, work effectively, and produce high-quality work in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in recruiting, employee relations, and HR operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, international environment.
- Proficiency in English.
- Existing permission to work in the US or the UK.

About the role
This role sits in the STAR Partnership which stands for Supporting Tenancies, Accommodation and Reconnections. We work in collaboration with Thames Reach, Stonewall Housing and Praxis, to support 4000 Londoners a year who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, as well as working to improve Londoners’ ability to sustain a safe and secure home.
You will deliver high quality housing advice and advocacy in line with the hub’s local community priorities and the STAR Partnership framework and work with people who are experiencing homelessness and bad housing to identify issues facing local communities. You will plan and deliver casework to individuals and communities to resolve their housing situation and engage with community groups, local organisations and individuals to understand local housing issues and raise awareness of people’s rights.
You will also work in local community settings and with community groups to deliver advice and rights awareness workshops and make sure that people with lived experience of homelessness have opportunities to share their story, give their opinions and participate in the design and delivery of Shelter services. Offering day to day support to volunteers, providing learning, shadowing and mentoring and being a consistent role model for our values are also key aspects of the role.
About you
You are able to listen to, engage and work with individuals and communities and with all stakeholders, including people with lived experience of homelessness. You will have experience, knowledge of and/or proven ability in housing and homelessness advice and advocacy and are able to progress to specialist level knowledge, as well as the ability to carry out casework related interviews, maintain detailed case records, advise and support clients to make informed decisions. A proven record of delivering group workshops and presentations is essential, as is a collaborative, flexible and professional approach to your work.

Our London hub specialises in providing housing advice and emergency homelessness work, intensive support to families, people experiencing domestic abuse and people experiencing multiple disadvantages. With 50 staff, we provide front line support to over 5,000 people a year and work to bring about systemic change with the ultimate aim of people being able to live securely in suitable, safe, affordable homes. London Hub’s priorities are improving the practice of local authorities and Registered Social Landlords and focussing on households disproportionately affected by the housing emergency.
There are currently around 60 individuals working in the Hub, including the Strategic Lead, Lead Solicitor, Service Managers, Team Leaders, Solicitors, Legal Advisors, Housing Rights Workers and Support Workers, Family Support Workers, DIY Skills Advisors, Administrators and Receptionist. We also have a range of volunteers.

The Candidate
CIPD Level 7 qualified (or working towards) or compensating work experience.
Extensive experience managing employee relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, and performance matters.

Line Management experience.
Experience advising managers on complex ER matters and managing sensitive conversations.
Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to ER, including sickness absence management.
Understanding of the GDPR, DBS and NMC compliance requirements.
Competence with payroll systems, and Microsoft Dffice tools.
