The Work Rights Centre is looking for an experienced employment legal adviser, solicitor or barrister to contribute to our growing programme. The successful candidate will provide expert employment legal advice and casework, and support the wider development of the charity and our strategic goals.

The role

You’ll provide excellent employment legal advice, and support the Head of Employment in supervising our team. About you

We seek an experienced professional who shares our commitment to employment justice, and who is either:

About the Role

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate you will provide pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic abuse through on-going risk assessment, providing individual safety planning, trauma-informed support, guidance, information, and advocacy and enabling victim/survivors to access the services they need in the aftermath of the abuse and trauma they have experienced.

You may work within a Hospital Trust's Safeguarding Team to support both patients and staff in an Acute Hospital setting, who have experienced Domestic Abuse. You will make initial contact with victims of domestic abuse, explaining our services and assessing the impact of crime, or receive referrals from colleagues, in order to provide on-going support and case management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess risks and needs using evidence-based checklists.
• Focus on high-risk cases with short to medium-term crisis intervention.
• Assist high-risk victims in accessing safety services.

The Organisation

Action on Disability (AoD), founded in 1979, is one of London’s leading Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations. AoD provides five key services. These are: Youth, Employment, Welfare Benefits, Independent Living and Our Place.

AoD’s Independent Living Service

The Independent Living Service (Direct Payments) is a new service that will provide support to Direct Payment users within the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The service will enable disabled people to have genuine choice and control over the way in which they lead their lives.The post-holder will be working alongside disabled people to enable them to have more choice and control over their care and support needs.

Purpose of Post

To work with individuals, their family and friends (where appropriate) to provide them with information, advice and assistance to enable them to access and manage a Direct Payment

(DP) and recruit and manage a Personal Assistant (PA).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Support to individuals employing their own Personal (care) Assistant (PA) or engage an agency to deliver care and support.

1. Provide information and advice on becoming an employer and the role of the Personal Assistant.

2. Ensure that the client understands their legal obligations and responsibilities of being an employer.

3. Work with clients to: set up a profile on the Find-a-pa website, advertise and recruit a Personal Assistant, create a personalised job description and specification identify the level of experience and training requirements needed for the role.

4. Advise and help to calculate the PA’s salary and on costs (full training provided).

5. Support the client through the interview process and where necessary sit in during interviews.

6. Support individuals to reference, check legal status and where necessary DBS their support worker.

7. Support individuals to set up an induction plan for their PA and enable them to identify training needs.

8. Support the client to complete payroll and insurance documentation.

9. Work with the client to draw up a Statement of Particular (contract) for the employed PA (templates provided).

10.  Encourage DP employers to take a lead in all employment issues. Information on where to seek advice e.g. ACAS, Fish and Premier Care helpline will be given and clients will be encouraged to use them.

11.  Ensure that the individual has a back-up plan for emergencies.

12.  Encourage DP employers to be assertive and proactive with their Personal Assistants.

13.  Work with agencies to set up support for clients who may not wish to employ a PA directly.

Ongoing support to individuals in receipt of Direct Payments

1.Providing advice on employment issues.

2. Support individuals to solve practical problems e.g. lateness of staff, change of needs.

3. Support individuals to recruit again if necessary.

4. Assist individuals to re-look at budgets, training and job descriptions as they change over time.

5. Assist individuals to ensure that they continue to manage their Direct Payment or budget.

6. Support individuals to make informed choices.

7. Meet with the DP Support Group on a regular basis.

8. Assist in the development of training and other resources to support employers to manage their DP and their PA relationships.

9. Develop links and professional relationships with Social Work teams to support a healthy level of referrals.

You will help form part of a UK-wide team of remote Helpline Advisors operating the only modern slavery specific helpline in the UK. We are looking for a compassionate and driven Independent Gender-Based Violence Advocate (IGVA) to join Refuge’s Athena service in Lewisham. In this rewarding frontline role, you will support women and children affected by domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG), providing high-quality advocacy, practical support and safety planning to survivors at the highest risk. Working as part of a specialist team, you will play a vital role in helping survivors regain safety, stability and control over their lives. You will also take part on managing our Helpline Service, by managing new referrals from survivors and other partners, and responding to daily enquiries from partnership agencies, public and impacted individuals over the phone and email.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of domestic abuse; trauma and the barriers survivors can face when accessing support. You will be experienced in risk assessment, multi-agency partnership working and delivering survivor-focused support. Excellent communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills are essential, alongside the ability to work sensitively with women in crisis and manage a varied and demanding caseload. Responsibilities and Person Specification:

This new role is an integral part of the day-to-day delivery of our Advice and Support Service. The service is targeted at older people in or facing financial hardship, and provides information, advice and follow up support relating to a range of issues, including Welfare Benefits, Social Care and Housing. 

As an Adviser (Scottish Housing, Social Care and Welfare Benefits) you will be responsible for providing specialist support to older people, their families and carers through our advice service with their enquiries relating to housing and welfare benefits in Scotland as well as providing generalist level support on a range of issues through our duty service.

You should have in depth, specialist level knowledge of Housing or Welfare Benefits in Scotland (ideally both) as they relate to older people, and experience working within a high-volume advice setting and advice supervision framework. We plan to expand our advice offer in Scotland to cover Social Care, so knowledge in this area would also be beneficial. You should be able to travel within Scotland, including to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

We are looking for motivated, value-driven advocates to join a new, innovative community-based Gender-Based Abuse service in Southwark. This is not a traditional domestic abuse support role. You will support people of all genders affected by gender-based abuse and help shape a service built around prevention, creativity, and community voice. The ethos of the service is to ensure that we are front facing and out in the community to meet clients in spaces that are safe and accessible, as well as our offices.

The Role

We are looking for three people in total:

2 x IGVAs: You will work directly with people in community settings, carrying out risk and needs assessments, creating safety plans, and using trauma-informed and coaching approaches. You’ll be part of a fast-paced, dynamic team working in new and flexible ways.

1 x ISVA: You will work with individuals impacted by sexual abuse and VAWG.

As this is a community-based role, candidates will need to be flexible, confident working across different settings, and understand how to be engaging and approachable.

As Resourcing Advisor, you will play a key role in the day-to-day coordination of the resourcing service by recruiting across a range of clinical and non-clinical roles, ensuring a smooth and efficient candidate experience from role conception through to onboarding.

This is an exciting time to team join the team as we have recently launched our new HR Information System, Workday, and the Resourcing Advisor will support the team and hiring managers whilst we continue to roll-out Workday to the organisation and modernise our Resourcing and HR processes.

Key duties will include:

• Being a front-facing member of the Resourcing Team, pro-actively assisting with enquiries from Hiring Managers
• Provide a full range of recruitment support; including posting job adverts on relevant job boards and social media, screening applications, scheduling interviews, making job offers to successful candidates and pre-employment checks
• Offer a creative approach to attract talent to the RHN by writing engaging job advertisements and content for use on RHN’s website, job boards and social media
• Scheduling exit interviews with leavers in a timely manner

To succeed in this role you must:

• Have previous experience of working within a Recruitment Team, either in-house or agency
• Have previous experience of working in a front-facing customer-focused recruitment role
• Be highly organised and efficient to manage a variety of resourcing tasks concurrently
• Have experience of using different direct sourcing methods, including job boards and social media, to attract candidates
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail

This is a hybrid role based on-site in Putney, South West London, with a minimum requirement of 3 days per week in the office.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide advice and guidance to members phoning the Disclosure Service and to give a consistently high level of customer service. 

• Maintain computer records relating to the provision of thirtyone:eight membership and disclosure service

• Participate in an effective and appropriate triage system operated for callers to the training team.

• Processing disclosure application forms ensuring that they meet legal requirements.

Specific Responsibilities

• Deal with incoming post, emails and telephone enquiries relating to the operation of the Disclosure Service.  

• Carefully check information received to ensure completeness, following up any enquiries necessary by post, telephone or e-mail.      

• Check and countersign online disclosure application forms and then forward the application to the Disclosure and Barring Service or AccessNI for processing.  

• Enter details of disclosure applications and members of thirtyone:eight on the database (Microsoft Dynamics). 

• Follow up all queries, discrepancies and other issues as appropriate with client churches/organisations and the Disclosure and Barring Service.  

• Participate in internal and external meetings and training events as required – mostly online but occasionally in-person.  

• Prepare reports and data information as requested.  

• At all times work within the policies and Code of Practice laid down by the Disclosure and Barring Service, thirtyone:eight and UK Data Protection Legislation and GDPR.

We are looking to recruit an experienced HR Advisor to provide comprehensive HR support. You’ll play a key role in supporting the employee experience, providing top-notch support to all teams in the organisation and be comfortable working in a unionised environment and with all levels of seniority.

In this role, experience of employee relations will be pivotal in supporting the organisation. As a trusted advisor, you will have sound employment law knowledge and be comfortable with challenging conversations, supporting managers with any issues such as sickness absence, holiday queries, capability or a disciplinary procedure. 

You’ll ensure that recruitment costs are kept to a minimum, work with recruitment managers to ensure vacancies are advertised following internal processes and ensure employment contracts are finalised before onboarding starts.  You'll also be confident using IT systems to assign training to new joiners and to existing staff, keeping records of courses and ensuring that safeguarding training is completed.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Welfare Rights and Housing Advisor to join Camden Disability Action’s Advice Service.

You will have at least two years’ experience providing specialist-level welfare rights advice and experience of providing housing casework. The role involves identifying opportunities for income maximisation, supporting clients to ensure benefits are correctly assessed, and assisting with mandatory reconsiderations and appeals. You will also support Disabled people with housing-related issues, including homelessness prevention and access to suitable accommodation.

You will work holistically, managing complex cases and advocating for clients across statutory services, specialist advice agencies, and community organisations. The role provides social welfare rights advice, advocacy, and casework support within CDA’s remit and does not involve the provision of regulated legal services.

You will be committed to developing your understanding of the Social Model of Disability and share our vision for a radically inclusive world where people are not disabled by the society in which they live.

We are looking for someone who is committed to supporting our clients on the front line with equal passion to use themes and patterns from casework to affect wider systems change.
