Job Purpose: To develop and manage, to a high standard, Age UK Bromley & Greenwich’s Information and Advice Service. To be responsible for the effective delivery of the I&A Service which will be delivered through a range of channels, including face to face, telephone, email, digital, and other means, across the Bromley and Greenwich boroughs.

Key Responsibilities:

Line management and supervision

• Provide line management and supervision to advisers and support staff.
• Supervising team advice sessions and casework
• Manage the practicalities of the advice session and ensure adequate staffing and resources.

Job Purpose

This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate and prevent further crises.

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

The Role

The role of the support workers will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.

Salary information:

Hybrid working in London: £32,682 per year, increasing to £33,600 after 6 months and £34,493 after 12 months Pro-rata if part-time

Homebased (with regular travel to London): £29,453 per year, increasing to £30,267 after 6 months and £31,054 after 12 months. Pro-rata if part-time.

Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth (CAML) is the leading advice charity supporting individuals and families primarily across the London boroughs of Lambeth and Merton but also wider London.  We provide a range of information, support and advice services.  We also work to raise awareness and understanding of the challenging issues affecting our clients and communities.

This role is a service manager including line management responsibilities and reports to Head of Advice Services.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

• As a member of service managers team, ensure client support team members are supported with the appropriate level of guidance and supervision

• Complete casework and generalist advice for clients (when required)

• Monitor the case records / telephone calls of designated staff and volunteers to meet quality standards and service level agreements

• Ensure remedial and developmental issues are identified and acted on to develop individuals, improve the quality of advice, and ensure clients do not suffer detriment due to poor or inadequate advice

• Keep technical knowledge up to date and provide technical support to advisers and / or caseworkers

• As a service/team manager you are a member of CAML’s Service Manager Delivery Team

• Assist trainees through self-learning modules and review progress on a regular basis.

• Research, design and deliver training programmes and sessions

• Take part in recruitment, induction and coordination of our fantastic volunteers

• Attend appropriate internal and external meetings as agreed

Research and Campaigns

• Promote the importance of research and campaigns work

• Include a review for research and campaigns within case-checking

About The Role

Supporter Engagement is one of the most important teams that is central to the success of Alzheimer’s Society. The function of the team is to manage multi-channel communications with our supporters, both inbound and outbound. The team manage emails, telephone calls and social media interactions and is part of the wider Supporter Experience Department. 

The team has a very bespoke tone of voice when managing the high volume of interactions but has the autonomy to manage their own workday within guidelines. Support is second to none and we pride ourselves on having a very open communication style between all members of the team so that help is available for you to be successful in your role.

In this role you will be the first point of contact delivering an excellent supporter experience to members of the public and Alzheimer’s Society’s supporters. You will have enriching one to one conversations across different channels, including phone, email and Social Media. Through answering queries and proactively delivering exceptional levels of stewardship you will build rapport and inspire supporters and potential supporters about our work, whilst maintaining accurate system records that reflect and enhance the supporter experience.
