The Role

This is a rare opportunity to be at the front line of human rights research and advocacy, working for a specialist organisation with a long track record in promoting the right to freedom of religion or belief (FoRB).

You will undertake research, investigations, monitoring, report-writing and advocacy on freedom of religion and human rights in Myanmar/Burma and Indonesia.

Key responsibilities (full responsibilities listed in the application pack):

• To plan, organise and undertake research, monitoring and reporting on freedom of religion or belief and related human rights issues in Myanmar/Burma and Indonesia , through regular fact-finding assignments, when and where security conditions allow, meetings with key stakeholders and the development of reliable in-country and external partnerships and collaboration.
• To produce materials, including briefings, reports, documenting and analysing the situation of freedom of religion or belief and human rights in the agreed countries, as well as advocacy recommendations.
• To develop and implement, with oversight from the Asia Team Leader and in close consultation with other key members of staff , an effective and innovative advocacy strategy for the agreed countries, taking into account the regional perspective.
• To undertake advocacy with a focus at local (when possible) and regional levels, including ASEAN, and, in consultation with the Asia Team Leader, work with CSW’s Public Affairs Team to inform advocacy initiatives in the UK, EU, US and with other governments, the United Nations and other forums.
• To organise, as appropriate, advocacy visits for delegations from or in relation to the agreed countries.

The Person

A committed Christian with a university degree and a strong commitment to human rights and justice, you will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to take the initiative and to work well under pressure.

· In-depth knowledge and experience of issues relating to freedom of religion or belief in Myanmar/Burma and Indonesia

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is seeking a Communications Officer (Media) with sharp news sense to join our growing team. The successful candidate will bring talent, enthusiasm, and relevant knowledge and experience to support press and social media strategies and communications across the entire global organisation. The role sits in our global communications team, working with, and reporting to, the Head of Communications. We are a small, high-performing team tasked with increasing the media and social media coverage of BHRRC’s analysis and key findings, as well as supporting and amplifying the efforts of our partners on the ground that are fighting to achieve justice and remedies for victims of abuse.

Responsibilities

The Communications Officer (Media) will have a particular focus on increasing international media coverage of BHRRC’s work and research, and the activities of our partners, including in the field of labour rights. Responsibilities will include:

Drive a proactive and strategic press approach: Spot opportunities for high impact coverage in target outlets, building on existing press lists, develop relationships with priority journalists, and create and pitch compelling content to media, including media advisories, press releases and related materials.

Develop high-impact communications products, synthesising complex research and data sets: Work with our Global Team to develop materials which speak to our key audiences. Develop key messages for our priority programmes and also discrete outputs including individual briefings and research reports.

Contribute to organisational and project communications strategies and planning: Support the Head of Communications to implement our communications strategy. Advise project managers on strategic communications and support launch project planning. Keep our planning calendar up to date and help ensure deadlines are met.

Produce well-written content: Write and edit channel-appropriate content for our audiences. Support the Global Team to produce high-quality and newsworthy reports, op-eds and blogs.

Support digital outputs: Support the Web Content and Senior Digital Officers as appropriate, creating content for our digital platform and social media platforms (including priority platforms LinkedIn and Twitter).

Support the communications team: Provide on-call cover for the media line, with occasional infrequent out of hours work, and share admin jobs.

Key competencies and attributes

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in a communications role, including working in a busy press office, communications department or as a journalist.

Media: Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; ability to conceive, craft and pitch news stories and carry out fast reactive work. Knowledge of and experience of working with the mainstream media, including knowledge of the editorial positions, audiences, and sections or programmes of key outlets. In addition, ideally, knowledge of international business media or media in some specific countries or regions.

Relationship building: Track record of developing relationships with journalists on key issues. Any existing contacts of relevance to BHRRC’s work a bonus.

For-impact communications: Excellent understanding of how strategic communications can work with research and advocacy approaches to achieve change. Proven ability to synthesis and communicate complex and sensitive information; understanding of how to tailor content to different audiences, contexts and channels. Outstanding written English and good oral communications ability.

Project management: Track record of leading and/or implementing complex projects including planning (timelining), execution and evaluation of lessons learned.

Strategic thinking: Track record of helping to develop successful communications strategies to effect change. Experience tailoring communications products for diverse international audiences an asset.

Supporting staff: Enthusiasm for supporting colleagues with communications. Experience supporting staff either through training, coaching or assisting with media advice an asset.

Team player: Experience of, and commitment to, working in high-performing teams that are highly collaborative and focused on outcomes. Experience of working with colleagues remotely, and in multicultural and diverse cultures and working environments also desirable.

Knowledge of human rights issues: A strong interest in international issues and familiarity with social justice issues desirable.

The successful candidate will lead strategic, high-impact external communications across the organisation. Responsibilities

• Lead strategic communications: Lead the strategic evolution of our global communications as a critical component of our strategies to make change happen. Drive impact by building strategic media and digital outreach that amplifies the work of ourselves and allies, and influences key audiences. Work across our global team to develop a shared understanding of grand strategy, key audiences, the fast-changing context, and how communications can drive positive change. With the management team, set the organisation’s communications strategy and ensure we have the right skills, knowledge, and connections to deliver it. • Lead the communications team: Support a strong team, nurturing their skills to inspire effective and high-impact communications, with an emphasis on digital first. Ensure the work of the team is expertly planned and executed within budget and meets donor requirements. Deliver our performance management system throughout the year to ensure support, well-being, and accountability. Work with the Senior Management Team to manage strategic and operational opportunities and risks.
• Drive and execute innovative, advocacy-oriented communications: Work with senior management, regional and thematic teams to drive a dynamic approach to communications, alongside spotting proactive and reactive opportunities, building higher-level relationships with journalists and partners, and developing tactical approaches. Play an active role in executing impactful, advocacy-oriented communications strategies for key products and events.
• Digital action platform and technology: Work with the Web Content and Digital Officer to manage the development of the Resource Centre’s leading multi-functional digital platform, and our substantial data as compelling evidence. Develop an understanding of the organisation’s target audiences and ensure we deliver features that effectively support them to effectively organise and present their research data and promote human rights in business.
• Programme design and fundraising: Work with our development (fundraising) team and programme leads to ensure communications, and digital technology work is built into project design and budget, and that funders’ information needs are well-served.

Key competencies and attributes

Strategic communication: At least 5 years’ experience delivering top class communications and expert understanding of how strategic communications deliver change. Demonstrable experience in strategy design and execution. Sharp news sense and editorial judgement; strong grasp of the power of social media to make change happen; and a global perspective to communications.

People manager: At least 3 years’ experience in line management. Experience in nurturing and sustaining a high performing team that thrives in a diverse, and global context. Demonstrable success in supporting project teams to deploy communications strategically for impact.

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing, managing and evaluating senior stakeholder relationships with external networks. With a proven track record of consistently delivering projects and programmes with high-quality results, the successful candidate will have up to date ED&I knowledge and demonstrable experience of raising the profile of an organisation within this setting.  The candidate will be experienced in development of programmes and partnerships to suit delivery of strategic objectives, and be able to project manage internal colleagues to deliver against set KPIs.

Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead, develop and deliver WorldSkills UK’s external Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) programmes supported by stakeholder engagement strategies across our network of industry, education and government. The role will ensure that we engage external stakeholders to help deliver our ambition to be a leader, partner and ally in creating positive change for ED&I in the skills sector.

Key tasks and responsibilities

1. Deliver positive action activity for change:

• Support the development and delivery of WorldSkills UK’s external ED&I strategy. Ensure it is fit for purpose, has recognised long term goals and will deliver measurable change, reflecting organisational priorities around increased engagement with ethnic minority groups and females. Provide an overarching framework and help further develop strategic KPIs for our ED&I work, ensuring effective use of data, monitoring progress and performance.
• Work with the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager to develop action plans that will drive our continuous improvement:
  • Support our skills competition development programmes to increase the diversity of young people engaged
  • Support the development of role models to showcase the impact of our work and encourage diversity in key areas of industry, including future priority skill areas
  • Support the development of learning resources that aid engagement with underrepresented groups
  • Support teams to ensure ED&I matters are considered and addressed as key components of all strategies, plans and programmes.

2. Manage the ED&I Advisory Group:

• This is a unique opportunity to work with experienced and prominent senior individuals from across education and industry who are invested in driving the agenda for ED&I.
• Lead the administration and ongoing development of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Group.
• Engage the Group to help support, advise and challenge WorldSkills UK on its actions to remove obstacles and barriers faced by young people from under-represented backgrounds in our programmes.
• Report regularly to the Group on progress against KPI’s and facilitate reports for the WorldSkills UK Board.

3. Project Manage the ED&I Heroes Awards

• The Awards is an established flagship event which provides a platform for WorldSkills UK to celebrate success with its partners, amplify best practice and inspire others to drive change across the skills systems in education and business.
• Project manage delivery of the annual Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Heroes Awards, supported by relevant internal teams
  • Establish the nominations process
  • Co-ordinate the judging panel
  • Organise the awards ceremony
  • Manage the support of the awards partners.

4. Manage strategic relationships

• Manage a portfolio of ED&I focused Strategic Partnerships with organisations from across the skills sector, facilitating their support and engagement with our EDI programmes.
• Grow our network of partners to widen our reach, help further drive work in this area and collectively impact on the sector.
• Advise and support the development of the CEO’s international activities on ED&I with WorldSkills International (WSI).

5. Raise the profile of WorldSkills UK’s ED&I work:

• Work with teams across the organisation to support our Mission to ignite a national and global movement to help more young people, regardless of their background, get the best possible start in work and life.
• Support the Senior Strategic Partnerships Manager and Marketing and Communications Team to showcase the impact of our programmes:
  • Help to externally profile and articulate the value and impact of our activities using the channels and tools available
  • Seek opportunities to advocate for our work through stakeholder engagement and networking
  • Support the Corporate Partnerships team to identify and secure commercial income related to our ED&I initiatives.

6. Internal ED&I Liaison:

• Whilst not responsible for WorldSkills UK’s internal ED&I activities and agenda it is anticipated that the post holder will spend up to 10% of their time supporting and working with the Corporate Affairs team on internal ED&I matters, with the remaining 90% spent on external work.

This role is office based (as above) but with flexible hybrid working. It is expected the postholder will attend the office at least once or twice a week.

This role will deliver Kidney Care UK’s Patient Support and Advocacy service in and around Manchester. This varied role deals with every aspect of a patient’s life that supports better outcomes: welfare benefits, practical, emotional and social support. As well as directly supporting patients, you will raise awareness of the wide range of local and national resources available to kidney patients, and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other stakeholder groups in the region.

We have a very exciting opportunity for anyone who enjoys working on the front-line of patient support in the Wirral and Liverpool area. 

This role will deliver Kidney Care UK’s Patient Support and Advocacy service in Liverpool and the Wirral region. This varied role deals with every aspect of a patient’s life that supports better outcomes: welfare benefits, practical, emotional and social support. As well as directly supporting patients, you will raise awareness of the wide range of local and national resources available to kidney patients, and build strong relationships with kidney patients, professionals, and other stakeholder groups in the region. 

Based at home (laptop and mobile phone provided), you will be expected to travel independently across Liverpool and the Wirral area and manage your own caseload with the support of your line manager and other members of our national friendly, committed team.

We’ll provide the training, you’ll bring enthusiasm and your experience of working with chronically ill patients in a social, care or health role.

• Job Title: Justice Programme Manager
• Location: Remote/Hybrid/Nottingham
• Salary: £40,000 p/a based on 35 hours per week
• Fixed term contract for two years

Headway is seeking a new Justice Programme Manager who will expand the current services to have a greater impact on police and probation services, improving knowledge and understanding and the support offenders with brain injuries receive.
We want someone who can both oversee the existing projects, such as our brain injury ID cards, whilst expanding the services in line with our new strategy, due to launch in the summer of 2024.

What will you do:

• Develop and implement a strategy for Headway’s work within the criminal justice system.
• Work with and develop key relationships across, police, probation services to improve knowledge and systems for offenders with brain injuries.
• Develop new justice related projects, including working with Headway’s fundraising team, to generate new income to expand the services.
• Work with the network of local Headway charities, to expand their work, within the justice system.
• Manage and deliver Headway’s justice related training initiatives.
• Oversee the successful delivery of Headway UK’s Brain Injury ID Card, including the line management of the project lead.

About you

About Women in Prison

Women in Prison is a national, women-led, feminist organisation. We deliver front line support to women harmed by the criminal justice system, through our work in prisons, in the community and ‘through the prison gate’ as they resettle back into their communities. We also campaign for systems change that addresses the root causes of offending, reduces the harmful impact of prison, and creates workable, community-based alternatives to imprisonment.

Job Description:

Duties and Key Responsibilities:

1. Client Care: provide high-quality, trauma-responsive advocacy and emotional and practical support to women in contact with, or at risk of being in contact with the criminal justice system

Job purpose and key responsibilities

We are looking for a Programme Officer for our new Women Lead in Emergencies team to help us to achieve our ambition for women’s equal and meaningful participation and leadership in humanitarian and nexus programming.

You’ll support the team to deliver efficient and responsive global technical services for the confederation by managing information and administrative systems for the Women Lead in Emergences global workstream. You will coordinate with CARE offices and Women Lead project teams to keep global information updated. You will provide logistical support to CARE’s Women Lead in Emergencies Community of Practice and work with other team members to produce and curate content for our internal knowledge platforms. As this is a global team, in addition to English, you will be comfortable working in one other of the CARE global languages (Arabic, French and/or Spanish).
