The organisation
United for Global Mental Health was founded in January 2018. It exists to support and unite the global effort to promote good mental health. Through our campaigning, advocacy and financing work, we aim to create a world in which everyone, everywhere has someone to turn to in support of their mental health. Since 2018, we have worked with a variety of international and national partners to help us reach this goal.
The Initiative:
The WHO Constitution and several UN human rights declarations affirm everyone’s right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. However, many countries’ laws and policies fall short of enabling this. Human rights violations and barriers to access persist, often due to the prioritisation of institutional care over primary and community-based services, and the existence of discriminatory laws, such as those criminalising suicide. Addressing these issues is a key focus of UnitedGMH’s human rights pillar under its current three-year strategy.
The Role:
You have the opportunity to join this initiative, working as part of a global policy, advocacy and financing organisation that puts its national partners and persons with lived experience of mental health at the forefront of their advocacy efforts. You will work with the Policy and Advocacy Advisor and colleagues, to develop, coordinate, support and implement policy and advocacy projects including; influencing global, regional and national law and policy, conducting research, report writing, drafting policy briefs and positions, partnership building and management, supporting national partners with their advocacy and representing the organisation at online and in-person events, including at key global moments. You will be working to achieve the objectives of our strategic pillar on rights, delivering on the 2026 strategy and action plan for the project on decriminalising suicide worldwide and supporting the project to deinstitutionalise mental health care, as well as contributing to the work across the organisation. You will also have the opportunity to help shape our next three-year organisation strategy from 2027-2029.
You:
You have a proven track record in international health policy and advocacy with an eye for detail and an entrepreneurial spirit. Confident to work across the range of advocacy and policy activities you are flexible, competent and take initiative, and have a desire to learn and grow. You are a true team player; able to take both responsibility in managing important projects and relationships and unafraid to take on essential tasks to support the team. You have a passion for international development, law and policy and mental health.
Responsibilities:

Partner Support: Help to build and manage partner relations with external stakeholders including national and global civil society, research institutions, governments, UN agencies, donors etc. Support them with their national advocacy and assist them in developing and managing national coalitions to advance their work at a national level.

Stakeholder relations: Support, and sometimes lead, engagement with key governments, the UN and other international organisations. As appropriate, directly engage and manage relationships with key decision-makers and global and regional advocacy organisations.

Engagement of Experts by Experience and young people: ensure experts by experience of mental health conditions and young people are provided opportunities to influence global and national policy through your projects

Grant and contract management: Lead in the identification of funders in your program area and develop funding proposals for work on policy, advocacy and financing; track and report on grant deliverables.

Policy, advocacy & financing strategies: Lead the design and implementation of policy, advocacy and financing strategies for UnitedGMH and in collaboration with, or for, a range of stakeholders.

Policy reports and papers: Draft policy reports and papers to support high level influencing.

Briefings, policy packs and influencing language: Preparing briefings, policy packs and influencing language for senior government officials, Ministers, and other decision-makers as well as national partners as required.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: regularly update UnitedGMH’s MEL system with relevant data and information around your projects

Communications: Support the internal and external communication activities of the organisation and develop project-based communications plans.

Funder profiles: Maintain updated profiles on key mental health funders.

Events: Organise meetings, events (including side-events at key global moments), workshops and small gatherings of partners and other stakeholders.

Represent the organisation: Speak on behalf of the organisation on your project areas at key global moments and in-person and virtual events, webinars and conferences
Experience:
-
You will have at least five years of experience working in country and/or global health policy, advocacy and/or financing for a UN agency, non-governmental organisation, think tank or decision-maker.

You will have undertaken work related to public health and/or human rights and have a track record of advocacy with policy makers, brief/report writing and research.

A background in health, including mental health, either professionally or through lived experience.

Demonstrable experience of having worked on health legislation and policy in low- and middle-income countries, including drafting, reviewing and/or having been part of consultative processes at a government level. Experience working on suicide prevention policies/strategies or the decriminalisation of suicide and/or the repeal of other discriminatory legislation will be preferred.

Low-to-middle income country level experience engaging with different stakeholders – persons with lived experience of mental health conditions, governments, civil society, donors etc.

We are looking for a communications officer who can help us deliver this mission by working with a full range of external channels.
You will have a passion for telling powerful, important stories and enjoy pitching to some of the UK’s highest profile journalists, finding news hooks and human interest in the IOP’s cutting-edge research. You will be a quick, accurate and confident writer and have experience in responding to the news agenda and advising colleagues. You’ll be as comfortable creating video and social media content as you are in traditional media and familiar with the challenge of generating and commissioning digital communications.

The Role
What will I be doing?
- Working with the media as a point of reactive and proactive content – supporting and advising colleagues on their projects and providing a full communications service for IOP policy work.
- Working to support our digital and social strategy, filming content for social media and supporting our online engagement
- Supporting out of hours and monitoring work as required. Playing a full role in the horizon scanning and planning work of the communications and marketing team.
Projects you work on may include:
- IOP policy work and influencing programme
- IOP campaigns and advocacy
- Department support – you will have your own ‘patch’ within the IOP where you will be expected to build relationships and develop your own proactive body of work.

Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Direction: Lead PBI UK, representing it to external stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, collaborators and the legal community. About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and conscientious Corporate Appointee & Finance Officer to join our team.

We are looking for a highly organised, pro-active and confident Digital Communications Officer to join our Campaigns and Communications team. You will work closely with the Digital Communications Manager to support all things digital including social media and website content, as well as coordinating digital content for EUmetriosis, a European funded endometriosis research project. It costs the UK economy around £8.2 billion every year in healthcare costs, loss of work and treatments and yet it isn’t recognised by most employers. As the UK’s leading charity for all those affected by endometriosis, we’re determined to change this and ensure that everyone gets prompt diagnosis and the best treatment and support.

About the role and you
We are recruiting for a Policy Officer within the Advocacy and Communications Team. You will report to the Director of Advocacy and Communications and work closely with all others in the team.
The purpose of this role is to strengthen LFF’s policy and advocacy efforts. You will be crucial in helping to develop strategic engagement, influence change and strengthen LFF’s impact on public policy, and in doing so, make a significant contribution to the prevention of child sexual abuse.
Bringing together your knowledge and experience engaging with various stakeholders, you will effect change by identifying opportunities to influence decision-making, analyse data to develop policy positions for the organisation, contribute to consultation submissions and provide advice on various policy matters.
Advocacy is one of three guiding principles in our 2025-2030 organisational strategy. It underpins all of our work – we advocate for a greater focus on preventing abuse before it happens, not just within the halls of parliament but through all aspects of our work from frontline practice to influencing national policy.
This role sits within the wider Advocacy and Communications Team which supports the promotion of all areas of our work across various channels: websites, social media, press and PR, marketing and digital advertising. Working with the wider team, we are striving to better showcase our advocacy work both internally and externally.

About you
Our ideal candidate is a dependable communicator who enjoys the day-to-day delivery of communications - planning and scheduling content, creating and posting on social media, drafting newsletters, updating the website, and producing simple graphics and videos. The role
Key components of the role include:
- Social media content development - collaborate with internal subject specialists to produce consistent and frequent on-brand written and visual content for social channels, in support of brand and advocacy goals. You’ll use Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and AgoraPulse for this.
- Email - develop, write and send UnitedGMH’s regular email newsletter, working with internal staff to source news, updates and relevant content tailored for email subscribers.
- Website development - develop, maintain and update content for the UnitedGMH website - including uploading content and editing pages.

Requirements

REDRESS is looking to appoint a Survivor Participation Officer to support our work designing, delivering, co-ordinating, and co-producing our policy advocacy with survivors of torture based in the UK and internationally. Who we are
REDRESS is an international human rights organisation based in London and The Hague that pursues legal claims on behalf of survivors of torture in the UK and around the world to obtain justice and reparation for violations against their human rights. Our approach to legal claims is strategic, so that as well as representing an individual we target the policy reasons that enabled the torture to take place, by building campaigns that uses advocacy, survivor participation, and communications to influence change.
At REDRESS, we utilise a survivor-centred approach, and we undertake a range of legal, policy, advocacy and communications initiatives (both in the UK and internationally) that we seek to co-produce with survivors on accountability and reparations for torture. This includes working with different groups of survivors to co-design and co-develop initiatives which reflect their priorities.

We are strengthening our processes to further enhance our diversity, build our survivor-centred approach, and ensure people with lived experience are part of REDRESS.
The Team
The Survivor Participation Officer will work with individual survivors and survivor networks to facilitate co-designed advocacy campaigns aimed at the UK government and international stakeholders on key issues, deepen relationships with key stakeholders within the anti-torture movement, develop referral pathways for survivors and make referrals as necessary.
Position Profile
The main responsibilities of the role are:
Survivor Participation. Develop and implement co-production initiatives with survivors of torture, including by providing the secretariat for the Survivor Advisory Group (SAG). Manage and build strong working relationships with new and existing SAG members, as well as survivor networks in the UK and internationally. Advise and support colleagues across REDRESS on embedding co-production in their work.
Survivor-Centred Approach. Develop, implement and manage internal policies and practice on survivor participation as needs arise. Enhance institutional thinking on survivor participation.
Advocacy. Work alongside the Advocacy Officer to co-develop advocacy strategies and campaigns with survivors based on their priorities. Facilitate meetings between survivors and parliamentarians. Support survivors with the development of key messages.
Project Management. Ensure delivery of project and related activities. Manage the budget. Contribute to the drafting of funding proposals, financial reports, and donor reports.
Support guides. Update the REDRESS Guide to Justice, Accountability and Reparations (and the relevant sections of our website) periodically to ensure these remain accurate and up to date resources for survivors and practitioners.
Deliver training. Develop and deliver capacity strengthening workshops to survivor groups, diaspora communities and NGO practitioners, to increase access to information on justice and reparations.
Referrals. Support REDRESS clients where necessary, including by signposting and making referrals to support providers.
Partnerships. Foster relations with existing and potential partners and counterparts on litigation, policy advocacy, and training.
Teamwork/Collaboration. Work collaboratively with REDRESS team members and external stakeholders always exercising professional integrity.
Representing REDRESS. Contribute to the wider needs of the organisation, including communicating REDRESS’ work to a wide array of audiences.
The position is also expected to carry out such further duties as may reasonably be required from time to time by REDRESS.
Person Specification
We are seeking applications from intermediate professionals with some previous experience in either co-production, grassroots organising, or policy advocacy to contribute to this work.
Essential Competencies
The successful candidate will need to have the following essential competencies:
· Experience working with survivors and/or survivor groups. At least three years relevant experience.
· An understanding of human rights.
· Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing for a public audience.

Terms
Reporting. The position will report to a Senior Legal Advisor.
Hours. This is a full-time position at 35 hours a week, however part-time hours will be considered. Evening and weekend work may be required from time to time.
Location. The position is based at the REDRESS office in London.
Flexible Working. REDRESS is an “in-person” organisation and we value teamwork, but we have a flexible working policy which allows for working from home. This role is currently required to be in the office at least two days a week.
Duration. The contract is for a fixed term of 12 months (maternity cover).
Start date. The position would start in January 2026.
Probation. There is a six-month probationary period.
Pension. REDRESS offers a pension contribution of 10% of salary.
Holiday. There are 25 days of holiday per year, in addition to UK public holidays. The office is also closed between Christmas and New Year.

The post holder will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and personal welfare support.
