At Grace House, SHP’s specialist 11-bed hostel for women in Camden, you’ll step into a leadership role that offers real purpose and the chance to drive meaningful, lasting change. As Service Manager, you’ll be at the helm of a pioneering service that supports women experiencing multiple disadvantage; homelessness, domestic abuse, substance use, poor mental health and the ongoing impact of trauma and exploitation. The traineeship lasts for up to 12 months, and each GROW receives personalised training and support to help remove some of the barriers that may have prevented them gaining meaningful employment.

About the role

Working in a team of seven, you will be part of the research function at Shelter, finding data and evidence to support Shelter’s fundraising, media, services, campaigning and brand work.

As well as researching the benefits of social homes, we also do research on the scale of the housing emergency, including homelessness, and who is most affected.

The Research team is part of Shelter’s Activism & Advocacy division. This means you may work with our Public Affairs, Digital Campaigns, Community Organising and Policy teams too.

The GROW trainee programme includes opportunities to get involved in Shelter at a national level, using your experiences to influence our work as a whole.

About you

You’ll be a team player who is flexible, open to learning, and willing to ask for support when needed. You’ll have basic IT skills, such as using email and searching the internet, and be able to stay organised and manage your time well. You’ll also be proactive, curious, and interested in learning more about housing and the issues people face. Importantly, you’ll have lived experience of homelessness or other disadvantages – such as substance use, or involvement with the criminal justice system – and you’ll want to use your experience to make a positive difference. You may also be facing challenges to employment, such as limited qualifications, a lack of experience, or long-term unemployment. A strong belief in equality and a commitment to tackling discrimination are essential.

They will have strong interpersonal communication skills, working with a team geographically spread across London and handling referrals from external stakeholders, allocating them accordingly.

• Experience of office management, co-ordination, and administrative skills

About the role

Each of the Support Network Coordinators have the responsibility for delivering, maintaining, and expanding the support services available to spinal cord injured (SCI) people and their region of the UK.

The post coordinates two vital parallel strands:

1. In your region, to reach and support newly and long-term spinal cord injured people and their families developing a strong partnership with all available specialist services, charity and business partners; managing a dedicated team of volunteers as well as providing direct support to SCI people with more complex support needs.
2. Nationally, working to facilitate the link between SCI people and SIA and the network of services; referring SCI people and their families to our clinical / health expert support teams and advocacy services; working with the Digital Engagement team to build on-line links to regional partners in your area; supporting fundraising, campaigns and communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the job for your if you’re good at:

• Building strong relationships – you’ll be talking to everyone from people with SCI and their families, to healthcare professionals, solicitors and partners who deliver key services.
• Identifying opportunities – to expand SIA’s portfolio of services, we’ll need your knowledge of organisations and individuals that provide services to those affected by spinal cord injury.
