About the Role
You will be joining at an exciting time for Ataxia UK as we complete our 60th anniversary year.
This is a key role as member of our growing Fundraising & Communications department, responsible for the coordination and delivery of daily communications tasks and the design and creation of marketing assets.
Ataxia UK has a large and engaged community of patients, supporters, volunteers, fundraisers and professionals. The post holder will work with the Communications & Marketing Manager, the Fundraising department and the wider organisation to ensure we reach our networks across social platforms, website, and printed materials with dynamic branded assets. You will coordinate the delivery of the quarterly Ataxia Magazine, liaising with internal and external contributors, designers and printers. Working closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager, you will have the opportunity to help shape Ataxia UK’s new communications and brand strategy.
Ataxia UK operates a hybrid- working policy, with full time staff working 5 days a week expected to work from our offices in Highgate a minimum of 2 days a week. This is adjusted to 1 day per week for part time.

As a Caseworker, you’ll work directly with unpaid carers, providing a vital mix of practical advice, emotional support, and advocacy. From conducting statutory carer assessments to organising support groups and events, your work will ensure that carers feel recognised, valued, and supported in all aspects of their role.
You will engage with carers via various channels - phone, email, text, face-to-face, and group settings - ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. This is a multi-faceted role that blends frontline casework with community engagement and strategic development.
Main responsibilities of the role include:
Direct Support to Carers:
- Deliver comprehensive carer assessments in line with the Care Act 2014, and co-produce tailored support plans
- Identify and assess eligibility for Carers Personal Budgets and assist with the application process
- Provide accurate and empathetic information, advice, and guidance on carers’ rights, benefits (e.g. PIP, Carer’s Allowance, Attendance Allowance), housing, and local services
- Act as a listening ear and a source of emotional reassurance for carers navigating challenges and crises
- Liaise with Local Authorities, NHS providers, and voluntary agencies to advocate for carers and coordinate support
- Make appropriate referrals and ensure follow-ups are completed
- Lead proactive outreach efforts to identify new carers, particularly those from underrepresented or vulnerable communities
- Build and nurture collaborative relationships with GPs, hospitals, primary care teams, and community organisations
- Raise awareness of unpaid carers and the charity’s services through campaigns and community presence
- Contribute to the development of internal strategies and external policies that reflect the needs and voices of carers
- Maintain high-quality records using internal systems (Charity Log) and the Mosaic Local Authority database
- Register new carers and ensure timely updates to service user records
- Prepare case summaries and contribute to internal and external reports for management, commissioners, and funders
- Ensure data compliance, confidentiality, and GDPR adherence at all times
- Act as a lead on specific areas of knowledge (e.g., benefits, outreach) and share expertise across the team
- Attend regular team meetings, supervision, and 1:1s, contributing to a positive and solution-focused culture

What You’ll Do
• Trusts & grants: Work with the Development & Communications Manager to write and submit compelling funding applications to trusts, foundations and grant-making bodies to secure new and repeat funding.

The Marketing and Communications Officer is an important role at the College as you will proactively support the creation and execution of targeted marketing campaigns and activities, helping to ensure that the RCPCH continues to lead the way in children’s health.

The Manna Day Centre is a drop-in Centre for homeless and vulnerably housed single men and women. It is run by a team of project workers, under the Director, who are responsible for its smooth operation. Basic Services offered include food, showers, clothing, housing & welfare advice, medical care, and access to laptops. The Centre opens to service users 7 days a week, 8.30am– 1.30pm. The working week for this post is Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm each day.
The Senior Housing & Welfare Advice Worker must have a commitment to homeless people, which includes acceptance and respect. As Head of Fundraising and Communications, you will manage a high-performing team of four staff: Database & Donor Manager, Communications & Engagement Manager. Community & Events Officer and the International Development Manager. Your key priority is to raise the income required as per the agreed annual income budgets for the organisation, managing all relevant income streams that include Trusts & Foundations, Events & Community, Corporate, Statutory, International and Individual Giving. You do not need to demsontrate an expertise in all of these streams. You are also responsible for ensuring that all communications messaging is strengthening our brand and engaging our supporters.
Finally, you are an active member participating in the Senior Management Team contributing insights and strategies that align with the charity’s development goals. By engaging in this leadership role, the Head of Fundraising and Communications role will help to drive the charity's mission forward, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.

- Knowledge of adult social care, particularly services for people with learning disabilities
- Able to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the regulated activity of personal care
- Comfortable working as part of a wider management team to ensure services are high quality and financially sustainable
