Purpose of the job
The main purpose of the job is to support with the delivery and development of the Challenge: ELBA programme which provides one-off, team based practical and social volunteering opportunities for member and non-member companies.
The programme is well established and the Challenge: ELBA team delivers circa 8,000 volunteers each year. The focus now is to reengage with companies that paused in-person volunteering due to COVID and to continue to develop virtual team opportunities. The project manager will be working with the team to take the programme to the next level by proactive marketing of team challenges, developing new materials, including social media presence; working with companies to “adopt” community organisations, and ensure as many challenge volunteers as possible convert to longer term business volunteers. There is also great potential to engage non-member companies and develop an income generation stream through providing team challenge opportunities.
The role is busy and demanding and Project Managers are expected to show great independence and initiative in delivering a busy programme of activities. The Project Managers will be working with the team to deliver our annual programme and targets as well as constantly developing new activities to help tackle social issues in the community.
Project Managers are the backbone of ELBA. You will be fully supported and trained and there is opportunity to advance quickly to Senior Project Manager after just 12 months in the role, subject to performance.

Job Description
Main duties
- Identify and build relationships with a range of community stakeholders, including charities, community groups, social enterprises, education institutions, faith groups etc
- Assess organisational needs and develop creative corporate volunteering opportunities to meet the needs and build the capacity of community stakeholders via volunteer teams
- To manage a high volume of enquiries from corporate and community partners
- Develop relationships and effective partnerships with key stakeholders in the community including the local authority and community infrastructure support organisations to maximise the impact of ELBA’s work
- To proactively develop and market Challenge: ELBA opportunities to member companies and match them with appropriate teams
- To facilitate Challenge: ELBA events, organise and run planning meetings and provide support on the day.

About the role
The Programme Coordinator will primarily be responsible for supporting Money Heroes, our largest primary programme designed to develop the financial capability of children across England and Wales. Money Heroes provides resources, training and mentoring for primary schools, as well as storybooks, games and other materials to supplement learning about money at school and in the home.

The Role
As Philanthropy Manager, you will be contributing towards the ambitious plans to further increase reach and impact over the next three years. This role presents an opportunity to manage and grow the philanthropic income, including leading on the development of the Major Donor programme/s.
You will play a central role in making stroke the investment priority it needs to be by shaping the small but promising philanthropy programme, managing a portfolio of committed supporters as well as new prospects. You’ll also scope and test new philanthropy products to drive sustained giving.
Working within the High-Value Engagement Team, you will build relationships with loyal and prospective donors, raising vital funds to power the Association’s work to support people affected by stroke.
Key responsibilities will include:
· Lead the development of the philanthropic programme/s, using knowledge of sectoral trends and best-practice acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship strategies to reach personal and collective financial targets.
· Submit proposals in order to secure and renew income from major donors.
· Provide the necessary financial information to the Head of Philanthropy and Trusts so that he can prepare budgets and forecasts in a timely manner.
About You
Reporting into the Head of Philanthropy and Trusts – we are looking for someone with an eye for detail and the ability to prioritise a diverse workload. You will have:
· Experience of philanthropic fundraising for a charitable organisation or equivalent, with a track record of securing £50k+ donations.

The Individual Giving Manager in the Mass Fundraising team will work closely with the Senior Individual Giving Manager and Mass Lead to develop the programme across membership, lottery, raffle and digital fundraising.

ShareAction’s Banking Standards team seeks to work with stakeholders such as banks, investors, and NGOs to make sure the banking industry take responsibility for their impact on people and planet. We have a history of campaigning on key aspects of banks’ climate strategies – such as their emission reduction targets or their fossil fuel policies – and we are gradually expanding our campaigning, research, and engagement work to other sustainability themes and banking regulation.
Position
What you’ll do (key responsibilities)
The research arm of the Banking Standards team ensures that ShareAction’s banking campaign is based on sound analyses and facts. Our Research Managers are responsible for analysing banks’ position on climate change, related industry standards, and market developments. Based on in-depth assessments, they formulate recommendations to strengthen banks’ commitments and inform engagement by investors and other stakeholders. Insights and recommendations are typically grounded in the following types of research:
- Investor briefings and short research notes reviewing climate-related commitments made by individual banks, either on a specific area of their climate strategy (e.g. in response to a new commitment) or across their climate strategy (e.g. to support a shareholder resolution or voting recommendation).
- Thematic reports and internal position papers reviewing how the European banking sector aims to address a specific issue and/or the relevant standards banks relies on (e.g. to inform engagement on new areas of work like green finance or refine existing campaign asks like fossil fuel policies).
- Banking surveys ranking European banks on their approach to climate change across are a range of themes (e.g. governance, climate targets, sector policies), in collaboration with the Financial Sector Research team.
The Research Manager is responsible for tracking banks’ commitments on an ongoing basis and ensure this information feeds into all types of research in a consistent and timely manner. This role closely collaborates with campaigners and support engagement efforts with research insights. They also lead on certain investor briefings, research notes, and thematic research under the supervision of the Senior Research Manager.
Specifically, the Research Manager leads on the following areas of work:
- Monitoring banks’ climate-related commitments on an ongoing basis and reflecting new commitments and updates in an internal database (‘banking tracker’) in a consistent and timely manner, enabling accurate and efficient uses across various research and campaigning activities. For example, the banking tracker will help streamline the pre-filling of banks’ individual questionnaires for the banks survey.
- Producing thematic research to inform ShareAction’s position and recommendations on climate-related issues. Initially, the Research Manager will conduct research on topics included in the banking survey but not covered by existing thematic reports (e.g. governance). This research will directly inform the development of the next banking survey questionnaire.
- Drafting investor briefings and similar research materials in close collaboration with campaigners to support engagement with focus banks, members of our investor coalitions, and journalists, amongst others.
- Presenting research to banks and other stakeholders including investors in meetings or webinars.
- Drafting responses to external consultations and taking ownership of consultations in specific areas of expertise.
- This role will be possibly required to line-manage and mentor one Senior Research Officer, addressing development needs and fostering their professional growth.
The Research Manager will also support other areas of work in the banking team, including:
- Delivering the banking survey (feeding into the research questionnaire, collecting data, and inputting into specific sections of the report
- Filing shareholder resolutions
- Drafting investor letters and AGM questions
- Among other operational needs (e.g. note taking during meetings)
The Research Manager will initially be contracted on a 12-month fixed term contract. We are aiming to make this position permanent; however, this is contingent on securing longer term funding for the role by the end of the 12-month period.

Hours:
This is a temporary 12 month maternity cover, full-time position over Monday to Friday.
From 1st July 2024 we are piloting a four day working week across the whole of the UK organisation. This pilot is planned to run for 12 months, at which point a decision will be made by our Board of Trustees as to whether this will become permanent. Success of the trial relies on the organisation being able to achieve the same or improved level of impact in four working days as five, with staff experiencing either the same or improved levels of wellbeing.
During the four day week pilot, working hours for this position will be reduced to 30 hours per week, spanning Monday to Thursday, with no reduction in salary. This will be a temporary change to the contractual terms for the successful candidate. The appointed person must be prepared to increase their working hours to 37.5 hours per week if a return to a five-day working week is decided. In the event that THL UK considers before the end of the trial period that the trial is having an adverse operational impact, we reserve the right to bring the trial to end on one month’s notice.

Summary:
The HALO Trust are looking for an experienced and driven Philanthropy and Grants Manager to lead and develop high value relationships with philanthropic donors, with a focus on Trust and Foundations (and potentially corporates).
The Global Philanthropy Team works to secure support for the delivery of vital projects to save lives and protect livelihoods in conflict affected countries around the world, as well as build organisational resilience and support innovative areas of work. HALO’s philanthropic income has grown significantly in recent years, driven by introductions from our network of trustees, ambassadors and advocates and our focus on strategic and transformational partnerships. We are a small team of highly skilled, experienced and driven fundraisers with a collaborative team culture. The team is supported by a Philanthropy Operations Manager, Philanthropy Assistant and Global Philanthropy Research and Insight Lead (who leads on research and due diligence). In 2024 a Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships for the Middle East will join our team to lead relationship development in this key market.
You will join a fast-paced, fluid and entrepreneurial context, responding to opportunities while laying the critical foundations for strategic growth.
While the role is likely to focus on Trusts and Foundations (and potentially corporates) due to our networked approach and the strategic and interconnected nature of our partnerships, supported by networks of advocates, we do not overly separate relationships between Trusts/Foundations, corporates and HNWIs. This provides team members with varied opportunities in terms of the relationships they lead and the high-level stakeholders they work with. From briefing our Chief Executive prior to a meeting with a new potential donor for Ukraine, to engaging existing partners in the potential expansion of work in the Middle East, you will play a key role in making HALO’s lifesaving work possible.

In Ukraine, HALO is the largest demining organisation, having operated in the Donbas since 2016. Russia’s invasion has resulted in mine laying and explosive contamination on a scale not seen in Europe since the Second World War, including across vast tracts of farmland. This prevents agricultural production, which is critical to Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Across seven regions, more than 1,000 local Ukrainian staff have already enabled the removal of more than 19,000 explosive items and the clearance of more 3.1 million m2 of land- bringing safety to communities and supporting Ukraine’s economic recovery.
True peace cannot come until land is safe. HALO’s work to clear the deadly debris of war is the first step towards recovery and reconstruction. And the return of hope.
About the role:
The HALO Trust has more than doubled in size over the last eight years by growing support from both Governments and philanthropic donors. Global income from philanthropic donors (including the US) has significantly increased over the past five years – from circa £4 million to £15 million in 2022/23 and reaching a further peak of £44 million in 2023/24 in response to exceptional donor support for Ukraine. Unpinning this is growth in six and seven figure partnerships with major donors, corporates and foundations, initiated by our exceptionally well-connected network of trustees and ambassadors - and nurtured by our committed and professional global philanthropy team.
The team has a global remit and this, together with HALO’s extensive geographic footprint, creates significant opportunities for growth in our portfolio of partnerships.
By nurturing and growing high value partnerships this role plays a key role in supporting the delivery of HALO’s life-saving work around the world.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead growth within a portfolio of high value (six and potentially seven figure) relationships by providing excellence in supporter stewardship and through the development and delivery of relationship strategies, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Head of Global Grant Partnerships
- Support senior HALO staff, advocates and trustees to engage and inspire individuals linked to agreed relationships
- Work with international programme teams to ensure the development of high-quality proposals and reports to tight deadlines
- Contribute to departmental strategic priorities including supporting the stewardship of other major relationships, follow up of new opportunities, and the development of philanthropic products for wider use. Deputise for the Head of Global Grant Partnerships where required
- Manage donor records and correspondence in Salesforce
- Work closely with Philanthropy and Partnerships (Gov funding) colleagues in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East and overseas programs as part of a distributed team to provide support to global fundraising efforts
Essential Requirements:
- Three years' experience of personally leading successful relationships with high value philanthropic donors (Trust and Foundations, corporates or high net worth individuals or equivalent), including those giving at the six or seven figure level
- Experience of building effective relationships with advocates linked to philanthropic donors
- An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
- Outstanding written skills with the ability to work with programme and finance colleagues to design robust project proposals, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation
- Confident in working with financial information including project budgets
- Excellent written and verbal skills with strong attention to detail
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication and gravitas
- Experience of working with a fundraising database to maximise relationship development
- A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives
- Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALO’s various programmes and strategies in a compelling way
- Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context
- Collaborative, team player, with a low-ego and a positive and upbeat approach.
Desirable:
- Experience of high value fundraising in the following areas is desirable: humanitarian and international development, mine action, conflict, the environment / conservation
- Experience of pipeline and relationship development in international markets for example Europe/US and/or the Middle East.
