We are looking for an energetic and creative person to organise and deliver a calendar of engaging and inspiring energy and climate themed events and outreach activities across East Sussex. The events will cover the following themes: saving and sharing energy, insulation, solar and batteries, renewable heat, funding energy efficiency measures, creating healthy and mould-free homes etc.

You have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills. You are organised with an attention to detail and respect for the importance of collecting data to enable monitoring and evaluation of the project.  You want to improve the events by collecting and listening to feedback and implementing improvements. You value the input of our service users, volunteers and staff team into the design of the events programme.

Responsibilities

- Work in collaboration with the ESC team and stakeholders to design a programme of inspiring energy and climate themed events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne, and Wealden, reaching a total of 1000 residents across the year.

- Create engagement opportunities for your team at the events and activities of other organisations and local groups by networking and working with the Communications and Marketing person to promote our services.

- Find interesting speakers and organisations to participate in our events.

- Create public events for our No One Left Behind project, finding new, exciting ways to engage the public in conversation about energy and climate topics.

- Manage the administration and logistics of the events, including room bookings, ticket booking processes, etc.

- Look for opportunities to invite our funder along to events and participate in the activities.

- Manage relationships with staff team and volunteer Energy Champions on local events.

- Create event plans and risk assessments for each event.

- Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer and local volunteers to plan PR and promotion of events to agreed timelines.

- Create and work to agreed budgets.

- Ensure you are collecting the data needed to monitor and evaluate the project.

- Create inclusivity in the event registration and attendance experience to support people with a variety of needs.

- Ensure events feed into the wider work and services of Energise Sussex Coast.

- Provide event reports to manager detailing the number of attendees, write-up of the event, and feedback.

- Provide general assistance with ESC events and projects as required.

- Adhere to Energise Sussex Coast’s policies around safeguarding, data protection, etc.

- Attend monthly in-person team meetings in Hastings.

Key Details

• Hours: 30 hours a week, flexible working. Will include some evening and weekend work.
• Job location: Home based (or optional hot desk in Hastings) with regular events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne and Wealden. Please note, travel costs to the events will only be paid from a local East Sussex postcode, we would not be able to cover the cost of travelling to events from London or further afield.

As the Community Shop and Online Manager for our flagship store in Mere Green you will lead a team of paid staff and volunteers. You’ll be empowered to make decisions locally whilst working within a supportive framework. About the role

The London Library is looking for an Acquisitions and Discovery Assistant to assist in the acquisition and management of Library E-resources and print resources.

The role includes supporting the successful acquisition and seamless delivery of electronic resources to library users, utilising and maintaining relevant library systems and records; assisting purchasing decisions and supporting licensing, ordering and payment processes; verifying access, liaising with suppliers & Library IT, and ensuring correct metadata is presented to users; plus monitoring resource use and collecting data for the evaluation of subscriptions. There is the opportunity to support membership and services, including giving tours to prospective members.

In addition to assisting with the administration of E-books, the role requires processes associated with the management of the print journal collection, including serials and donated materials, such as checking in new issues and ensuring publications are shelved correctly, applying stamps, recording invoices, recording changes in publishers' information and preparing completed volumes of serial parts for binding and checking. 

There is potential to grow and develop the role, which will join our busy Acquisitions and Discovery team and assisting with administrative tasks associated with cataloguing along with supporting the Library’s internal Digitisation processes as required.

Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

The Role 

An exciting Café Manager position has opened at our Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre, which houses a fully integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Centre, Shop, Donation Centre, Office, and our first-ever Café, named Café Hornbeam. 

We are looking for an experienced Café Manager who will provide excellent customer service, prepare delicious food, and create a warm and welcoming space, inspiring their Deputy Café Manager and team of employees and volunteers to do the same. This role will be accountable for the overall management of the Café, including process and policy adherence and development, and Food Safety. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Uphold and manage café operating procedures and policies, including Food Safety, Allergens, Health and Safety and Trading Standards.

• Manage the product mix, introducing new products where appropriate and maximising profit margins.

• Identify appropriate food and drinks suppliers and build and manage supplier relationships.

• Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments within the café/food service industry to make or recommend appropriate changes to the delivery of café services and products.

• Ensure the café is presented to the highest standards with attractive merchandising of food and drinks. 

• Effectively manage time to work alongside the team, whilst completing managerial duties.

• Plan and oversee the implementation of new menus, specials, and food and drink related offers.

• Manage the Deputy Café Manager and Café Assistants, including supporting them with their continued development, managing rotas and timesheets, providing training and providing appropriate support when needed. 

• Maximise profitability through driving sales and managing and controlling costs, stock, and margins effectively. 

• Be trained as a First Aider and Fire Marshal.

About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• Proven experience of working in a catering or hospitality role at a similar level. 

• Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification.

SCLF was established in 2016 with a 10-year mission and ten years of funding from John Swire & Sons Ltd with the objective of getting Mandarin Chinese more broadly taught in UK state schools across primary and secondary. The Foundation believes that there is tremendous value for young people to learn a foreign language and that learning Mandarin Chinese in Britain will enable future generations to develop a greater understanding of China.

The Grants Programme Assistant will support both the Executive Director and the Assistant Manager across the remit of the SCLF’s work to help it deliver its objectives. This is a unique and interesting opportunity to join the organisation at a key point in its ten-year trajectory as it works to support schools to continue their language provision post 2026 and help shape what that future might look like. 

The postholder will play a key role when it comes to supporting the Executive Director and Assistant Manager in their day-to-day roles and get very involved in the operations of the Foundation. The work will cover wide remit of areas including: financial administration, supporting with termly funding reports-and-request process for schools, preparing internal expense requests and maintaining the expenses log. You will support with the annual Grant Agreement extension process, general programme administration, the annual data requests and the organisation of annual assessment visits to Centres. The postholder will maintain relationships with the Foundation’s network of schools and other institutions. You will support with board administration, scheduling meeting dates, manage logistics and support with the preparation of papers. You will also support with event administration for two annual conferences and also sit in on many of the meetings which the Foundation holds with various stakeholders and take meeting notes where possible.

You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and experience working with and maintaining good relations with a variety of different stakeholders. You will have a thorough approach to tasks and attention to detail. You will have a curiosity about and interest in the work of the Foundation. You will be flexible and have an adaptable approach to tasks. You will be comfortable working within a small team and also be able to work on your own initiative. You will have sound computer skills (Microsoft Office 365). You will also have strong numeracy skills.

The Major Gifts Stewardship Assistant is responsible for an existing portfolio of approximately 150+ individual, trust, and corporate donor relationships. Main responsibilities include:

About the role

The Finance Assistant provides support to the Director of Finance and Operations in the work of a fast moving and agile organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Processing of grant payments, purchase invoices and expenses, including confirming authorisation, correct allocation to budget and ensuring adherence to internal controls
• Maintaining cashbook and ensuring the correct allocation of income
• Undertaking monthly bank reconciliations of multiple bank accounts and assisting with other reconciliations and month end duties as required
• Supporting fundraising campaigns as required
