Do Me A Favour Buddy is seeking volunteers for an exciting research study exploring how personalised acts of kindness impact wellbeing, happiness, and sense of purpose.
About the Study
We're conducting an 8-week research project to understand how targeted acts of kindness affect both givers and receivers. Our research aims to gather evidence on how personalised kindness activities might improve mental wellbeing, reduce feelings of loneliness, and enhance life satisfaction.
What's Involved
- Complete an initial onboarding survey about your personality traits, preferences, and wellbeing
- Participate in our 8-week programme
- Receive personalised suggestions for simple acts of kindness
- Track your experiences and feelings
- Complete brief weekly check-ins
- Share your feedback through a final survey
- Participate in follow-up assessments at 3, 6, and 12 months to help us understand long-term effects
Time Commitment
- 8 weeks for the main study period
- Approximately 10-15 minutes per day during active participation
- Weekly check-ins (about 5-10 minutes each)
- Brief follow-up surveys at 3, 6, and 12 months post-study (about 15 minutes each)
Who Can Apply
We're looking for participants who are:
- Age 18 or older
- Willing to commit to the full 8-week programme
- Able to participate in follow-up assessments over the course of a year
- Interested in exploring how kindness might impact wellbeing
- Comfortable using a mobile app for daily interactions
- Open to providing honest feedback about their experiences

Training for role - The training for this role will involve a two day in-person training course which will take place at St John Ambulance Halesowen, Manor Way, Halesowen, B62 8RW, as well as pre-learning online. You will be supported throughout the training process by the Network Leadership Team and your induction buddy, who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Network meetings will take place every other Monday evening at St John Ambulance, Manor Way, Halesowen, B62 8RW.
Community First Aiders would be expected to attend the majority of these sessions in order to maintain their level of training, interact with the Network, and help to organise key Network activity. Can you spare a few hours a week to support members of the Colostomy UK Facebook Support group?
We are looking for volunteers who can help respond to queries from group members on our closed Facebook group during the evenings (Mon – Fri, 5 - 9pm) and at weekends (Sat & Sun, 9am - 9pm).
Members of the support group are generally very positive, encouraging and kind to each other. Generally, members want to help each other, and the group has a real sense of community. The group is for anyone with a stoma or who has genuine interest in supporting someone with a stoma.
What will you do?
You will be logged in and respond to posts as Colostomy UK. We ask that you look at the group approximately once an hour during your shift and respond to posts as and when required. This may involve giving advice (never medical advice) or signposting back to our website.
You don’t need to respond immediately if you are unsure, however we do ask that you have a basic understanding of the group guidelines and alert the office team to any concerns. We ask that you delete any posts without delay that are obviously against the rules (we’ll tell you what those are during the training).
We have a weekly rota, and you can sign up for the time slots that work best for you. Shifts can be scheduled for the same day and time each week, or vary, as suits you.
How will we support you?
You will complete two hours of comprehensive training before getting started, so you are fully aware of what you need to do and when.
We’ll buddy you with an established volunteer who can support you in the initial few weeks.
You will be part of our WhatsApp group which includes other volunteers and the office team, so if you are ever unsure on how to help someone, others can help. Members of the WhatsApp group are happy to be contacted out of hours so very available if needed.
What qualities and skills will you need?
- Great if you are an ostomate but you don’t have to be.
- Good writing skills and able to respond to messages in a timely manner via your device or PC.
- Correspond in a supportive and person specific manner with members of the group.
- Empathy with and enthusiasm for helping people.
- Good understanding of our charity and the support we offer.

As part of our approach to succession planning, we are currently looking to appoint one exceptional candidate to join the Board. The ideal candidate for this role will bring a wealth of experience in asset management and procurement.
Job Title: Board Member
Hours: Typically, five board meetings a year, plus three committee meetings, and two- or three-days visiting sites or attending external events.
Term(s): For up to two terms of three years each.
Responsible to: Chair of the Board
Salary: Currently unremunerated with associated expenses paid (The Board have agreed that a £2.5K per annum salary be introduced from September 2025)
Location: Board and committee meetings are usually facilitated by remote video access with at least three board meetings in person. In person meetings are generally held in London.
Induction: All incoming Board Members benefit from a comprehensive induction process, including meeting staff, being assigned a board ‘buddy’, up to three professional coaching sessions and Insights Discovery personality profiling.
Appraisal: Board Member appraisals are carried out annually and incorporate a 360-degree approach.

About the Role
This is an exciting time to join the Board, as English Rural continues the successful delivery of an ambitious Business Strategy, which supports our position as a leading provider of affordable rural homes. Through the Strategy we are investing more than ever in our agreed purpose – ‘The provision and management of affordable housing for local people in rural villages in England and to be an advocate for affordable rural housing’.
As well as meeting the general requirements of the role, we are particularly looking for candidates who can contribute in one or more of the following areas:
- Expertise in asset management within a housing or similar sector
- Sound knowledge of procurement and contract performance management
- Experience of implementing sustainability and environmental aims within a housing or similar sector
