About the role

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.

You will be comfortable working across the full marcomms mix and using different channels and platforms to reach audiences.

What the job involves

Funding research that will improve the lives of men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer is one of Prostate Cancer UK’s highest priorities. We’re looking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Research Impact Officer to join our Research Directorate. You’ll join an existing Senior Research Impact Officer to support the Senior Research Impact and Intelligence Manager to find, communicate and accelerate the impact of Prostate Cancer UK’s funded research. Taking responsibility for 50% of our ‘completed and in follow-up’ portfolio of research grants, you’ll act as their primary contact, assessing the likelihood of, and proximity to, impact.

You’ll use your scientific knowledge to understand the science behind these projects and communication skills to build strong working relationships with the researchers. With your research experience you’ll develop a detailed understanding of the outputs, outcomes and impact arising from the research we funded and support our research community to accelerate their pathway to impact.

What we want from you

Your role is important to the charity, as supporting research that can ultimately deliver a tangible impact to men affected by prostate cancer is a significant focus in our charity strategy.

You’ll need to be passionate about research making an impact and hold a bio-medical science degree (or a degree in a related subject), with research experience. You can understand complex scientific information presented in reports, publications or presentations and explain these complex concepts in a simple and engaging way to a range of audiences including peers within the charity as well as men and their families affected by the disease. You’ll be motivated to consistently perform to the highest standards, with an eagerness to trial new ideas, identify new opportunities and solve problems.

In any one day you could be helping develop an impact case study for the website, interviewing researchers for project updates, supporting delivery of a research event, or using social media to disseminate the work of our funded researchers. Your primary focus will be on the impact of our funded research, but you’ll also work closely with our research funding team, as well as with other teams across the charity.

The Role

As FareShare continues to build broad and successful partnerships with key food suppliers across the UK, the Impact Reporting Officer will play a vital role in managing data and effectively demonstrating our impact to the food industry. This position is central to achieving our mission of saving usable surplus food and feeding communities.

This role is a reporting and systems lead, providing administrative and analytical support to the Food Team with a primary focus on consolidating and managing food volume data. Demonstrating to companies the difference their food makes  in an informative and engaging way is a key driver of continued support and motivation for the food industry. We seek a fast learner who can engage across various internal systems, including FareShare’s national WMS, Power BI, and our CRM Salesforce.

Working closely with the Food Team, the role will extract and manipulate data from our systems, presenting it meaningfully in reports and updates for our key food partners. Additionally, this role will collaborate with FareShare’s in-house technology department (The Info Centre) to champion and support the maintenance and accuracy of systems used within the Food Team, ensuring account records are up-to-date, and live reporting is both accurate and beneficial to account managers while adhering to GDPR policies.

This role will champion the further embedded usage of our CRM system (Salesforce) to better manage multifaceted relationships with our partners across the food industry. Having a clear and aligned view of the relationships across the industry is central to our ability to achieve our ambitions in partnership excellence. This role will both support the teams in keeping the CRM accurate and work with the Info Centre in suggesting and implementing builds and developments to the CRM that enhance our ability to successfully track and monitor key relationships.

Alongside the ownership of our impact data, this role will also contribute to cross-departmental data analytics projects and support the Marketing team to gather qualitative impact stories. Across both qualitative and quantitative impact data, this role will look to translate all of this into meaningful insights for companies that highlight FareShare’s work and ultimately help to deliver more food for those that need it.

Main areas of responsibility

Impact Reporting

• Design, build and implement impact reporting activities across the Food Team, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with key partner joint partnership plans
• Develop and implement best practices for impact reporting to effectively communicate the difference made by partners’ food .
• Support the gathering of qualitative impact stories, working collaboratively with charity partners and individuals to compile compelling narratives.
• Bridge the gap between qualitative and quantitative impact data, translating both into meaningful insights that resonate with key stakeholders.
• Develop content that effectively communicates the broader impact of our initiatives to both corporate and charity partners.

Data Analysis and Insights

• Provide comprehensive reports and analyses on food partner volumes, aiding Commercial Manager presentations and reports to food partners, including Tesco reporting requests.
• Utilise analytical skills to extract meaningful insights from various internal systems, contributing to informed decision-making and strategy formulation (including where possible providing data to marketing team and to support commercial decisions across the procurement team).
• Collaborate with Commercial Managers to support data gathering for monthly reporting and quarterly/annual forecasting and targeting.
• Contribute to cross-departmental projects and discussions as the Food Team data lead

CRM System Enhancement

• Champion the embedded usage of the CRM system (Salesforce) to enhance relationship management with partners in the food industry.
• Collaborate with the Info Centre to suggest and implement CRM builds and developments that improve tracking, monitoring, and reporting capabilities.
• Provide hands-on support to the Food Team in improving the effective use of Salesforce, ensuring all team members are proficient in utilising its features.
• Work collaboratively to identify opportunities for CRM optimisation and efficiency gains in managing partner relationships.
• Support in the ongoing assessment of the Partnership Excellence pillar using our CRM

Food Data Accuracy

• Support the maintenance and accuracy of our food volume data across visualisation tools like Power BI, including full ownership of the food team Power BI report.
• Collaborate with the Info Centre to streamline processes related to live reporting, ensuring accuracy and relevance for account managers.

Troubleshooting, System Support and Training

• Work closely with the Food Team to understand how systems, including CRM and Power BI, are utilised for decision-making, strategic planning, and day-to-day operations.
• Offer troubleshooting support, identifying and resolving issues related to system usage and data management.
• Support in the delivery of training on existing systems with the ambition of building a stronger data culture across the Food Team and wider organisation

Role Summary

As the Director of Research and Public Affairs you lead a team working across the full range of research work (including commissioning, grant-making and in-house research) and public affairs work (including policy analysis, advocacy work and mobilising our activists). You also contribute to the charity’s strategies, leadership and governance as a member of the Executive Team. Ultimately, your role is to generate new knowledge; and communicate knowledge, ideas and emotions to change hearts and minds, creating tangible reductions in alcohol harm across the UK.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

8. Influence the research spending of other agencies (e.g. NIHR) with a view to maximising funding into alcohol research in general.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

12.  Build Campaigner journeys for our engagement audience to best mobilise them to help us with our influencing work.

About this job

Please note this role is part-time 21 hours/or 3 days a week.

Our Helpline runs from 9am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic, warm and experienced individual to support our dedicated Helpline Volunteers and Befriending Volunteers within the Helpline team.

This role requires working flexible hours, including 9am–5pm, 10am–6pm or 11am–7pm between Monday to Friday to meet services and volunteer needs (3 days a week).

If you’re passionate about offering high quality information and emotional support and have relevant Helpline experience, we’d love to hear from you.

You will be providing continuous support to all our volunteers at the Helpline team, directly contributing in providing information and support to our Helpline enquirers, with both proactive and reactive content and information on prevalent topics or trends affecting the MS community.

The Director of Finance Business Partnering (Operations) is a critical role within the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance division that will lead, develop and deliver high quality finance business partnering and decision support to all the central services of the university, including providing financial planning, reporting and insight across revenue and capital funded activity. 

You will support the senior Director of the Financial Strategy, Planning & Performance function in development and improvement projects. Examples include the development of a professional competencies framework to support career progression and performance at all levels, supported by learning and development opportunities, improving key processes, resource allocation and financial planning methodologies, and reporting on financial performance.

As part of the function’s senior management team, this role will lead a team of finance business partners who will provide outstanding partnering services to our central services including large functions such as Estates and Facilities, IT, Students & Education, Research Management and on other crucial ‘head office’ activities. Working closely with the corporate reporting team on the provision of management accounts, you will lead on financial performance support in-year and across our three-year financial planning framework. Bonny Downs Community Association has been working together to change lives and transform our community since 1998. Over the past 25 years our team has grown to provide a wide array of services that benefit Newham residents from all walks of life. 

This role is specifically funded through the Youth Endowment fund as a pilot project ‘Thriving Communities’. Staff from each organisation will work together to deliver the programme and cross-refer young people to activities led by both teams.
