The Role
Join a co-operative providing British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreters and developing tech to support to users. The co-operative is co-run and co-owned by its members, who are Deaf people and BSL interpreters. You will work closely with the Operations Manager and Operations Team Leader to provide a high quality and efficient service, helping the business to achieve agreed targets whilst working to the co-operative’s ethos.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the provision of communication professionals for Deaf/Hard of Hearing people across for medical (including mental health) appointments and for other work in a variety of sectors (education, child protection, conference, employment, legal settings etc)
- Accepting and making calls
- Dealing with bookings and general enquiries in a fast-paced environment
- Supporting marketing and business development and communicating to members and external stakeholders
- Supporting other staff where necessary
The position is grounded in the co-operative’s ethos, ensuring financial processes align with the organisation’s values and strategic objectives. About You

Service delivery

Lead the day-to-day management of Ella’s safe houses, and outreach services

Ensure all caseworkers provide high-quality, holistic support tailored to each woman’s needs

Ensure casework systems are used consistently and effectively across the team

Job Title: Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist
Reports To: Research Lead with mentorship provided by Prof Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester
Salary: up to £39,500 per annum

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a postgraduate-level researcher who wishes to combine their expertise in education research and astute understanding of real-life classroom practice. While the role will sit within the Chartered College of Teaching, the postholder will also receive mentoring from Professor Bill Lucas, Professor of Learning and Director of the Centre for Real-Life Learning at the University of Winchester, providing a rare opportunity to combine academically rigorous research with real-life application. As part of a project funded by the Comino Foundation, the Teaching and Assessment Research Specialist will help to increase teachers’ assessment literacy by managing a portfolio of assessment-themed online events, developing a suite of assessment-themed resources, co-ordinating the work of the Next Generation Assessment group and developing an overview of evidence-informed teaching and assessment strategies and how they link to intended student outcomes, based on a series of rapid evidence reviews.
Over the course of the assignment, you will support the Head of Research and Policy and work closely with the Research Lead and the Events and Engagement Manager to create and manage an engaging portfolio of online, assessment-themed events and resources.
This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes. You will:
- rapidly review evidence of assessment methods and pedagogies designed to cultivate knowledge, skills and dispositions of pupils, identifying gaps
- with support, produce evidence synthesis for a small number of key methods, not currently widely used by teachers
- manage a portfolio of online events aimed at developing teachers’ and school leaders’ levels of assessment literacy
- co-ordinate the work of the Next Generation Assessment group
- create online resources for the Chartered College member platform relating to evidence-informed teaching and assessment.
The postholder will also be required to collate policy announcements around assessment and monitor any developments relating to the use of EdTech and AI for assessment. The ultimate aim of this work is to help illustrate that the common ‘trad’ versus ‘prog’ debates that still dominate many discussions in education are ultimately unhelpful and teachers need a wide range of different teaching approaches to help support a range of intended learning outcomes. This would be an ideal opportunity for anyone with proven expertise in and understanding of the links between evidence-informed teaching and assessment approaches and how they link to desired learning outcomes.

About the Role

Experience, Qualifications and Skills
- At least 2 years’ experience working with disadvantaged youth groups to transition them into employment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Experience working with vulnerable young people.
- Resilient, positive, and comfortable working effectively with complexity.
- Experience in delivering training sessions to young people.
- A good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and risk assessment.
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as collaboratively with the rest of the team
- Empathetic, engaging, and innovative – the ability to present and to be motivational.
- Flexible approach yet able to maintain clear boundaries with clients once contracted.
- Strong organisational, timekeeping and record-keeping skills.

Role overview:
As a member of MTL’s senior management team, you will take responsibility for the organisation’s growth and outward facing initiatives. You will lead and manage the organisation’s portfolio of social mobility leadership strands, and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders. You will provide dynamic day-to-day leadership for the MTL’s directorate responsible for income generation, impact, research, communications and policy, and ensure the organisation continues to be an exemplar of innovation, integrity and collaboration. You will also be contributing to, implementing and monitoring delivery of the organisation’s strategic plan.

About the role:
The Alcohol Behavioural Change Specialist is responsible for collaboratively designing and implementing, evidence-based programmes applying appropriate behavioural change models aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm, and promoting long-term behavioural change related to alcohol consumption.
As a leading charity focused on alcohol harm reduction, the postholder will be Drinkaware’s internal expert regarding alcohol harm to individuals and will have a good understanding of brief interventions, as well as information, advice and guidance including quality assurance across our work. They will work across the organisation providing expert advice and guidance.
Programme & Intervention Development

Work with the Head of operations to develop and implement personalised intervention strategies to help individuals reduce alcohol consumption, using evidence-based behavioural change techniques through our app and other digital tools.

Collaborate with lived experience panel and Independent Advisory Panel to create comprehensive alcohol-related behavioural health programmes.

Utilise your experience of motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based practices to promote lasting change in alcohol use behaviours across Drinkaware’s activity.

Stay up to date on the latest research in alcohol use, behavioural change methods to inform programme development and interventions.
Content & Communication

Work with the Marketing & Content team to produce engaging content for public audiences ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of advice and guidance in all Drinkaware messaging.

Work with the Digital and Content team to ensure the Drinkaware website content is relevant and up to date.

Presenting our insights, programmes and tools to external stakeholders including funders, public health departments etc.
Insight & Evaluation

Work with the Research team in the translation of research insights and publications into programme development.

Work with the Impact team to ensure impact monitoring and quality assurance is embedded in all work undertaken by Drinkaware and support colleagues to monitor and measure the quality of its work with a view to ensuring high quality standards and continuous improvement.
Governance & Safeguarding

Work with the Head of Operations to ensure Safeguarding is embedded within all programme delivery.

About you:
This role requires a deep understanding of psychological theories, behavioural science, and addiction, along with practical experience in behavioural interventions.
Qualifications and/or experience
- Degree or higher in Psychology, Behavioural change, Public Health, or a related field. Certification or training in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or other relevant therapeutic approaches is highly desirable.
Essential Criteria / Key Skills
- Strong understanding of behavioural science theories and experience of how to apply them to alcohol use, with proficiency in delivering behavioural change techniques.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing behavioural change interventions, particularly in the context of alcohol or addiction.
- Experience with digital health applications is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate individuals at all stages of behavioural change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess, plan, and implement effective behavioural change programmes.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working in the health sector and have a passion for reducing alcohol harm in the UK.
- Experience working in partnership with internal and external agencies and organisation
- Experience of working collaboratively across internal departments and teams
- Knowledge of public health initiatives and policies related to alcohol use.
- Data analysis and program evaluation experience.
- Confident public speaker able to represent Drinkaware at events, conferences and in the media.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously, prioritise tasks, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Understanding of safeguarding legislation and practical application in delivery of programmes
- Able to manage sensitive conversations with professionalism and care and resilient when under pressure.
