Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of our leadership team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation. The COO will work closely with the CEO and SMT to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the charity by playing a pivotal role in overseeing various aspects of our operations, including compliance, safeguarding, operations and team management, finance, human resources, IT, and administrative functions.

The ideal candidate will be a results-driven, strategic thinker with a strong background in non-profit management and a passion for our cause.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Programme Management:

- Supervise staff and ensure the effective delivery of our programs and services.

- Develop and implement program evaluation mechanisms to measure the impact of our initiatives.

2. Human Resources:

- Lead the HR function, including talent acquisition, staff development, and performance management.

- Foster a positive and inclusive organisational culture that aligns with our mission and values.

- They will provide leadership across the organisation and ensure that each team member is well supported and professionally managed

3. Technology and Infrastructure:

- Ensure the charity has the necessary technology and infrastructure to support its operations.

- Identify and implement IT solutions to enhance efficiency and data security.

4. Compliance and Reporting:

- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

- Prepare and present regular reports to the Board of  Trustees and stakeholders on organisational performance.

5. Stakeholder and Partnership Engagement

- Represent the charity at public events and engage with key stakeholders to promote our mission.

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred).

· 5+ years proven experience in senior operational roles within the non-profit sector

· Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams 

· Exceptional organisational and project management abilities.

· Demonstrable experience in budgeting, financial management, and people leadership 

· Excellent line management skills with the ability to work across a multi-disciplinary team of virtual working staff.

Duchenne UK is an ambitious, dynamic and impactful charity. Following their sons’ diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), Emily Reuben and Alex Johnson founded Duchenne UK in 2012. 

DMD is a devastating progressive condition diagnosed in early childhood which causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. There are currently only very limited treatment options for DMD, so Emily and Alex set up Duchenne UK to change this. 

Since 2012, we have raised more than £27 million to end the devastating impact of DMD.  We fund ground-breaking scientific research to find effective treatments. We’ve developed the infrastructure of DMD clinical trial delivery in the UK. We engage industry and regulators to accelerate access to treatments. And we’re here to support every family affected and ensure that they receive the best possible care. We aim not only to improve quality of life but stop the disease in its tracks. We have a new opportunity to join our team and build on these achievements. We are recruiting for a Director of Income Generation, who will be a key part of our senior leadership team and play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission.

The Director of Income Generation will work collaboratively across the organisation to oversee and grow all of Duchenne UK’s income streams including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities.

The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and sit on the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance.

About the role

At a strategic level this role is responsible for leading on all aspects of income, including fundraising, commercial engagement, and new business opportunities, leading the development and delivery of a bold and effective income strategy to support our organisational ambitions and future sustainability.

The Director of Income Generation will inspire and develop the charity’s income team, taking overall responsibility for setting and achieving income targets for the organisation. They will ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to income generation across the organisation.

The Director of Income Generation will report to the CEO and be part of the Senior Leadership team, working closely alongside the Managing Director, Finance Director and Director of Research and Development.  They will line manage a team to support the delivery of the income strategy.

Job Description

Income Generation

• Aligned to the organisational strategy, designing and delivering Duchenne UK’s income generation strategy, establishing a delivery plan to hit targets across a diverse range of income streams, including community fundraising, events, trusts and foundations, major donors, research and development grants and commercial income.
• Oversee the process and systems of managing funders and new business opportunities, including overseeing the charity’s CRM system (Salesforce) to support a high end and holistic approach to the account management of funders and stakeholders.
• Set, monitor and deliver annual income and expenditure targets.
• Attend meetings with funders and prospects, and networking events to uncover new opportunities, including management of Duchenne UK’s Development Board.
• Developing and growing the income pipeline, working closely with the Research and Development team to identify funding for existing and pipeline projects.
• Support the team to develop professional and engaging materials including fundraising proposition, applications, proposals, appeals, pitches and reports.
• Proactively seek-out and identify new trends and developments and make recommendations to Duchenne UK.
• Oversee reporting to ensure the preparation and timely submission of reports on progress on objectives, budgets and targets.

• Provide strategic insight and vision both externally and internally as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

• Work proactively to identify and monitor risk, working alongside the Compliance and Risk Committee to mitigate risks as part of the wider risk management process.

About the Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP)

The Brent Centre for Young People is the leading mental health charity for young people in Northwest London, helping over 700 young people a year with a wide range of issues. We offer specialised treatment in the areas of depression, suicide prevention, tackling self-harm, eating disorders, exam anxiety and more. Our approach is rooted in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. We aim to reach significantly more young people in the years ahead, drawing on our heritage that combines specialist treatment in-house and outreach into communities. Fundraising at BCYP

BCYP has historically been very successful in raising funds from non-statutory sources, particularly trusts and foundations, and is grateful to hold a number of established relationships with grant- makers. We work hard to ensure that we submit excellent, data-driven applications and evaluations. Until now, applications have largely been submitted by our Fundraising Manager- Trusts & Foundations, with occasional support from a freelance bid-writer. The successful candidate will initially be employed by the Movement for Reform Judaism, working closely with Liberal Judaism as a partner organisation.

To make this vision a reality we need an outstanding Youth Team Manager to join us on an interim basis of 12 months. As an experienced manager of a youth team provision or experienced youth worker, you will be passionate about driving excellence and facilitating young people to develop their talents. 

We offer nurture and support to working class young people (aged 11 - 14) who have faced numerous challenges and a well-meaning but often erratic education system.

Our primary focus is to design an approach that offers care, support, connection, hope and aspiration. The newly scoped CEO role in our vision-focussed charity is one of many challenges. Despite having doubled its outputs in the last 2 years, the charity acknowledges there is still a great job of work to do to prepare itself for even greater demand in its services - without necessarily a proportionate increase in its budgets. This role is about leading and enabling the incredible team of people on to even greater levels of already-strong performance. So we're looking for an accomplished leader and not just a great manager. We're looking for someone who can lead from both the front - and from within. This will be someone who is as comfortable sitting and engaging with our beneficiaries - primarily homeless people and those with previous convictions, as they are creating and delivering highly polished, compelling public event and funder and stakeholder-focussed presentations. We are looking for someone who understands the balance of external and internal focus required to ensure both good governance and team wellbeing (as they work in often challenging circumstances) and the ambition to keep developing existing and new external partnerships. With a strong start to its ambitious Corporate Partnership programme, commercial and/or business experience is highly desirable as well as a proven track record in creating and optimising new funding channels.

About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

Is leading the charity through its next phases of development as it prepares itself for year on year increases in demand with a focus on delivering the charity’s future resilience plan (Project 12/25). The CEO is accountable for overall charity performance (financial, operational, governance, compliance), team (paid and volunteer) support and development. Additionally, there are a wide range of community and external partner relationships to manage and develop. Ultimately this role sets the tone for the charity, one of both compassion and ambition to improve the lives of the people who need us. This is primarily an on-site role, with occasional opportunity to work flexibly.

About You

You have a stable CV that demonstrates you have built and led successful teams and enabled growth and/or transformation for your organisation – ideally in an equivalent charity/non-profit environment. Governance Manager

CAFOD, one of the 15 member agencies that make up the Disasters Emergency Committee, is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and stands alongside vulnerable communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

CAFOD is seeking a Governance Manager to temporarily support our Leadership & Governance team. Reporting directly to CAFOD’s Director and managing the Leadership & Governance Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring effective governance, strategic leadership, and strong Trustee relations during this interim period. • Identify emerging trends in governance and ensure that learning is reflected in CAFOD’s work and proposals.

 Engagement & Reporting  

• With the Leadership and Governance Officer and L&G Assistant, to support the Director of CAFOD in managing the relationship between the Board of Trustees and Leadership Team. 

• Ensure that all aspects of the Leadership Team and Board meetings are organised and conducted effectively in line with CAFOD’s governance principles. 

• Providing strategic guidance and support to CAFOD’s Trustees and Leadership Team 

• Developing a plan for the production of CAFOD’s Annual Trustees Report, and project manage its delivery.

• Assist with the external communication of CAFOD’s governance work with key donors and supporters.

Team Leadership  

• Providing management/mentoring to the Leadership & Governance Assistant where applicable.

• Working with the Leadership & Governance Officer in planning a governance work programme for 2025. 

• Provide guidance and oversight of all critical projects and support the team to deliver its objectives on time and to budget.

As Finance & Operations Director (FOD) you will be responsible for the financial stability of the organisation and maintaining appropriate financial management. Supporting the Finance Manager and Business Administration & Finance Officer to deliver the organisations’ strategies around finance and operations (IT, HR, premises, etc).

As one of two new permanent Executive Director appointments, this role will be reporting to our Director General and will see you accountable for developing and delivering RBLs financial strategy and performance.

You will be responsible for all financial policy and practice and for providing expertise and assurance to the Board of Trustees on financial management and compliance. JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager, Partnerships role makes a vital contribution to our objective to bring about transformative change for children. The key focus of this role is to secure income generation from Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Funders. The team is set to raise over £3.2 million in 2024 and has ambitions to grow this further in future years.

As Senior Manager, Partnerships you will identify, cultivate, secure and steward major gifts from existing and prospective donors who can support Lumos, usually at the five or six figure level. In your role you will build and foster positive relationships with grant-making organisations and institutions (bi-laterals and multilaterals), providing excellent stewardship and account management and drafting compelling and comprehensive proposals and reports.

You will work with colleagues and stakeholders in the Fundraising and Engagement Team as well as across our global organisation, including the Executive Leadership Team, Programmes Team, Country Teams and our Board of Trustees to effectively cultivate prospective partners, support existing partnerships and prioritise and progress opportunities.

KEY OBJECTIVES

Income generation:

• Pro-actively research and cultivate relationships with donors, especially Trusts, Foundations and Institutional Donors.

• Work with the Head of Partnerships, Director of Programmes, Chief Executive, Country Teams as well as existing supporters to maximise their networks and introduce new partnerships to Lumos.

Relationship management and stewardship:

• Provide exceptional relationship management and execute tailored cultivation and stewardship plans for prospective and existing donors. • Develop high quality communications for donors, including proposals, reports and stewardship materials.

• From time to time, represent Lumos at events and meetings to grow our network of supporters and contacts.

• Work collaboratively to strategically manage and maximise funding opportunities.

• Work with Fundraising and Programmes colleagues, via regular structured communication, to identify synergies between organisational priorities and funding opportunities and trends, and to develop funding propositions, detailed financial information and reports.

• Use the Salesforce database to maintain accurate records of opportunities, income, donor communication and interactions and to monitor prospecting activity and progress towards KPIs.

Other responsibilities:

• Keep abreast of fundraising trends and challenges, and the legal and regulatory environment.

• Manage, monitor and report on income against targets and contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to ELT and Trustees.

• Contribute towards annual planning and strategy development with the wider team.

We are seeking a Head of People and Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is a multifaceted role, leading the people and culture agenda along with responsibility for the smooth running of our operations, including overall office management and managing our IT provider.

Reporting directly to our Chief Operating Officer (COO), the successful candidate will be both forward thinking and focussed on long term sustainable improvements as well as hands on, developing initiatives that will improve efficiencies and ways of working throughout FNF and will have proven experience in working in an operational role within a similar sized environment.

Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility

People and Engagement

• Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team on the development and delivery of a people plan that drives engagement and performance. This includes proactively listening, learning and acting on feedback from our people engagement survey
• Lead on all aspects of HR, including recruitment, onboarding and performance management, staff benefits, leave allowances and mandatory learning.
• Responsible for managing our employee relations provider, ensuring that their service is fit for purpose and supporting all managers within the charity
• Work with our Occupational Health outsourced service to ensure that we are providing our people with an effective occupational health solution
• Create an approach to reward and recognition that celebrates success and encourages people to go above and beyond and making a difference for FNF, fully utilising our recognition platform
• Lead on the diversity, equity and inclusion agenda, ensuring that inclusion is considered throughout the employee lifecycle
• Work with our Marketing and Communications team to drive internal communications including our newsletter and team meetings

Policy and Governance

• Ensure that the people KPIs are monitored each month, looking at any themes and trends and associated actions
• Develop and maintain people policies and processes which are fair, transparent and comply with relevant legislation promoting FNF as an employer of choice.
• Maintain all employee records in line with regulation and organisational policy ensuring that all information is up to date and relevant
• Provide transparent and clear people and workforce information to the Board along with the relevant FNF committees
• Work collaboratively with our Finance team and Pension administrator to effectively manage the FNF salary exchange pension

Health and Safety

• Ensure that health and safety standards are met across FNF, this includes the communication of health and safety policies to ensure they are understood and adhered to
• Conduct regular risk assessments across all areas of FNF including office spaces, remote working environments and any other areas where the charity operates
• Establish and maintain an effective system for reporting, managing and investigating accidents, incidents and near misses
• Work with external partners to keep up to date with changes in legislation and to conduct the annual health and safety audit and ensure that any recommendations are implemented promptly

IT

• Act as the primary point of contact between FNF and the IT provider, ensuring clear and effective communication to ensure they deliver high quality services that meet our needs
• Review and manage the IT service contract ensuring that all terms and SLAs are monitored as well as considering value for money and service experience
• Manage the budget for the IT function at FNF
• Maintain an inventory of IT assets (hardware, software licenses etc) and ensure they are properly managed and documented. This includes the procurement and disposal of IT equipment as needed.

Office Management / Administration

• Partner with managed office provider to ensure that all services are delivered as per the contract, building a strong working relationship with the building and facilities team
• Ensure that the office environment is well maintained, welcoming and conducive to productive work
• Oversee the management of office supplies, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and ordered are placed
• Implement best practices in office management, including document management, filing systems and communication protocol
• To identify areas across the charity where processes, systems and collaborative working can be made more efficient, and support the team in implementing improvements
