The Role

We are seeking a driven, talented, energetic and creative individual for the role of Director of Development. This is a one-year maternity cover post.

In this role, you will work closely with and report to the Principal and Chief Executive and will be responsible for implementing and delivering a comprehensive and coherent fundraising strategy for LAMDA.

You will lead and deliver major gift campaigns, including the biennial Gala, to ensure the sustainability and success of LAMDA as the world’s leading centre for drama training. With the ability to work collegiately and collaboratively with all staff and stakeholders, you will have demonstrable experience in implementing and delivering a successful major fundraising strategy.

To be successful, you will be confident and proactive, a verbal and written communicator and a skilled networker with a very strong track record of relationship building. Additionally, you will have proven experience of working in a senior fundraising role in the arts, higher education or charity sector.

In this role, you will work 35 hours per week (9.30 am – 5.30 pm), Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to work outside these hours to attend events and productions in accordance with business needs.

Robertson Bell are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Finance and Operations to join this small but mighty charity! This pivotal role will provide strategic financial leadership, overseeing financial management, IT systems, and operational efficiency to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the organisation in alignment with its charitable objectives.

We are looking for a Financial Analyst to play a key role in the finance and broader management team of our ancient and innovative Christian charity, which has a chapel and a pattern of prayer at its heart.

This is a new role established to support our Finance Director and provide analysis of results and performance to support the Commercial Director, managers and trustees in their decision-making processes.

Purpose of role

CSC is seeking to recruit a new CEO who will lead, empower, and mobilise the organisation and its support to its network members, whilst securing sustainable funding and investment so CSC can deliver its mission. Primary responsibilities

The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:

Strategic planning and priority setting

· Provide leadership and guidance in the delivery of CSC’s 2024-2029 Strategy, defining priorities to secure sustainable funding and implement the organisation’s goals.

Resource mobilisation and sustainability

• As ‘chief fundraiser’ for the organisation, take the lead in strengthening the organisation’s fundraising strategy and income generation. Be actively involved in working with the staff team to bring in new income (restricted and unrestricted) by conceptualising the presentation of programme, advocacy, policy, and research work and developing customised approaches to donors. Ensure sustainable and diverse sources of income in the face of the current challenging fundraising environment.
• Work with our Development Board and other Trustees to engage with philanthropic and corporate foundations and high net worth individuals globally, attracting new donors and continuing to grow the organisation’s partnership base and international networks.
• Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with donors (United Nations agencies, foundations, multi-laterals, bi-laterals, corporate sector, and individuals) and partners to cultivate support for CSC through appropriate presence and communication.

Building CSC’s profile

• Protect and further strengthen CSC’s external brand, profile, and credibility as a thought leader in the field of child rights and child protection in relation to street connected children.
• Act as a champion and advocate for the organisation by representing the work of CSC and its positions at the highest levels externally and across the political spectrum and globally, including with the United Nations entities and agencies, regional bodies, national governments, and partners.
• Act as CSC’s key spokesperson publicly by writing, speaking and social media posting on issues related to the rights of street connected children.
• Support the ongoing development and implementation of a communication strategy to raise the profile of CSC as the global major leader on issues related to street connected children.

Organisation and programme management

• Manage the work of CSC to ensure an effective organisation that is operating in line with its vision, aim and objectives.
• Ensure supportive staff development and good practice to maintain a positive working environment with regular performance appraisals and professional development plans.
• Work in partnership with the experienced programme staff in delivering the programme strategy. Provide supportive guidance to the team, including robust programme planning, measurement and evaluation, and reporting processes. Support the team in conceptualising the programmes to achieve new and sustainable funding.

Finance and operations

• Oversee and ensure CSC’s fiscal soundness and strength, effective operational and financial management, consolidating financial stability, efficiency, and impact.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, carefully balancing restricted donor funding and project delivery with a balanced budget for unrestricted funded activity.
• Ensure proper financial and procurement procedures are adhered to, in order to meet the highest standards of international donors, UK auditors and the UK Charity Commission.
• Oversee processes to ensure strong negotiations and contracting of all our restricted funded projects, including robust due diligence processes for our subgrantees and donor compliance with respect to cost recovery and other requirements.

Governance

• Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board.
• Ensure the Board is fully supported in carrying out its role and responsibilities and that CSC is fully compliant with UK Charity Commission guidelines, Fundraising Regulator, and good practice for non-profits.
• Ensure the preparation and presentation of an annual workplan and budget for review and approval by the Board and present periodic updates of their implementation as well as of the overall financial status of the organisation.
• Work with the independent Board of Directors in the USA, providing information and assistance so that they can fulfil their potential at establishing a solid funding and advocacy base in the US for our mutual global aim of ensuring the respect, protection, and fulfilment of the rights of street children.

Experience and skillset

• A senior and experienced people leader, with a significant and demonstrable track record in an NGO or public body, of successfully building and maintaining high performing teams and a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.

• A proven record in the cultivation of donors and success in raising funds in the child rights or human rights sector, including from foundations, bilaterals, multilaterals, corporates, and high-net-worth-individuals.

• Monitoring and managing risk via the risk register and seeking legal advice where necessary
• Managing key stakeholders both internal (e.g. volunteers) and external (e.g. communal partners, the wider LGBT+ sector)
• Being the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the charity

About you:

• The ability to speak and write confidently and authentically about LGBT+ issues
• Strategic leadership, planning and decision-making experience in a commercial, not-for-profit or public service setting
• Line management experience, including the ability to inspire and empower a staff team
• Understanding of the charity and voluntary sector, including the funding environment in which charities operate
• Highly effective relationship-builder across multiple arenas (internal stakeholders, external partners, funders etc)
• Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and business development, including operational planning and delivery management
• Knowledge and working experience of organisational finance and budget planning cycles
• Experience working with, and preferably in, the UK Jewish community
• Positive, problem-solving and solutions-oriented

Although not essential it would also be beneficial if you have some of the following skills / experience:

• Delivering training or education in a Jewish setting
• Experience in fundraising
• Understand and experience in print, social and broadcast media
• Experience working with the LGBT+ community
• Experience in using CRMs such as Salesforce

Through its members and networks, Equally Ours joins up research, policy and communications to shift public opinion and policy in positive and powerful ways. This is at an exciting and pivotal time for Equally Ours. At the end of 2022, they launched a 10-year strategy, Together for social justice, which sets out their bold agenda to increase equality and strengthen rights at scale. Equally Ours also provides the Secretariat for the Funders for Race Equality Alliance which is a group of charitable funders working together to advance race equality in the UK and support a sustained and thriving racial justice sector.

The Chief Operations Officer will lead day-to-day operations, provide additional capacity at a pivotal time, update policies and processes, and ensure the organisation runs smoothly and efficiently, and keeps improving. A big focus on internal development in 2023/24 was on becoming an anti-racist organisation, an ongoing commitment and journey. This is a small team, so leaders need to enjoy covering a wide range of duties, from the strategic to hands-on. The role will involve close collaboration with the CEO.   

Key responsibilities:

• You will lead on delivering operational, finance and people strategy as well as oversee finances, working closely with 3rd party finance providers to manage the allocation of resources and oversee budgeting, and grant management.
• Lead on all aspects of the HR function, taking charge of people development, staff support, finalise revised pay and wellbeing policies and implement changes. 
• You'll support the team to develop and manage impactful partnerships and stakeholder relationships, providing strategic advice on project delivery and ensuring partnership arrangements are well planned and managed with care.
• You'll ensure they are compliant, maintaining effective internal policies and procedures, and are managing organisational risks effectively.
• Alongside the CEO, you'll support the board of trustees in ensuring organisational governance is solid.  

To succeed in the role, you will need to have: 

The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who has successfully led a team and can build relationships at all levels. You will have strong experience in charity financial management, significant operational experience ideally within the charity sector, including HR and people, improving policies and systems, and charity governance. You will be a highly motivated and driven self-starter, able to adapt quickly when priorities change. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience of leading internal organisation communications and creating high level reports and presentations. You will also have experience of implementing equality and human rights standards, for example the social work model of disability and anti-racist practices, throughout all areas of work. The ideal candidate may understand key concepts of structural inequality, combined with insight into your own experiences of advantage and disadvantage, and sensitivity and empathy to the rights and needs of colleagues.
