Director of Finance and Resources

The Brain Tumour Charity is leading the way in research, support, and advocacy for everyone affect by brain tumours. Our mission is simple but urgent: to accelerate a cure for brain tumours and improve life for everyone affected by this devastating disease.

We have a five-year strategy with three strategic priorities: to transform the research landscape, to raise voices to campaign for change, and to improve quality of life through providing support and best care for everyone diagnosed with a brain tumour. Reporting directly to the CEO and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Finance and Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Finance, Governance, Planning and Performance, IT Services, and Facilities teams. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Grants Operations Manager plays a central role in ensuring the Maitri Trust's grantmaking processes are efficient, compliant, and supportive of both our team and our partners. You will coordinate operational workflows across the grants pipeline, manage high-volume application cycles, and ensure seamless communication between applicants, reviewers, and internal teams. You will also ensure efficiencies within our current active grant portfolio, ensuring that reporting and systems are set up to be as effective as possible. Working closely with colleagues across Programmes, Operations, and Impact & Engagement, you will help build and maintain the systems that enable our grantmaking to deliver maximum impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Operations Management

• Review and improve operational processes for managing the current active grant portfolio to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
• Coordinate the implementation and smooth running of workflows across the full grant management lifecycle, including open and closed calls.
• Manage and coordinate high-volume application cycles to ensure smooth and timely processing.
• Facilitate clear communication between current partners, applicants, reviewers, external providers, and internal teams to support effective grantmaking.
• Prepare regular updates and reports for the leadership team and Maitri Trust Board of Trustees.

Grant Processing & Review

• Co-lead the operational design and delivery of open calls with the Head of Programmes.
• Configure and test the Fluxx grant management system to optimally support open call processes.
• Maintain high quality standards in application processing, proactively identifying and implementing process improvements.
• Draft, customise, and send outcome notifications and feedback to applicants.
• Manage escalated correspondence and queries from applicants and partners as needed.
• Coordinate the timely assignment and review of applications throughout the funding pipeline, ensuring shortlisted applications progress smoothly through review and approval stage.
• Maintain application processing quality standards and identify process improvement opportunities.

System Management, Grant Administration and Contract Management

• Act as System Administrator for the Fluxx grant system supporting its end-to-end management.
• Coordinate the due diligence relationship with external provider, consolidating internal technical and financial due diligence. 
• Oversee protocol on information/records management, ensuring information is appropriately recorded and archived in accordance with data protection requirements.
• Monitor and report on application numbers, quality metrics, and process performance and regularly report on these to the Maitri Trust team and Board of Trustees.

Collaboration and Support

• Work closely with the Head of Programmes and Grants Portfolio Manager to ensure seamless grant management of both new and current grants. 
• Deputise for Head of Programmes when required.
• Back stop Grants Portfolio Manager on key partnership management as necessary.
• Undertake occasional travel to support partners on-the-ground, providing operational assistance as needed.

YOUR SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE

Essential

• Minumum 5-7 years of experience in grant operations, grant management, or related roles within international development, philanthropy, or a funding organisation.
• Strong operational and process design skills, with a track record of managing high-volume application cycles, compliance workflows, and grant systems.
• Experience with grant management systems (ideally Fluxx), and confidence in configuring and optimising digital tools for process efficiency.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain high attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting guidance, documentation, and reporting for diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with open call funding processes, including application review, due diligence, and contracting stages.
• Comfortable working across teams and functions, especially in roles that bridge programmes, finance, and external financial compliance.
• Ability to work across time zones and to occasionally travel within the UK and internationally.

Desirable

• Understanding of data protection regulations and experience managing data and records in line with compliance standards.
• Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems, and how they integrate into grant cycles.

Job Purpose:

The Fundraising Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing fundraising strategies to secure financial support for the organization.

Our annual fundraising target is set at c250k (cash income) plus additional targets for in-kind donations, preloved donations and donated services. Role Summary

The Conduit Foundation harnesses the power of convening, collaboration, and catalytic funding to advance innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges. We are in rapid start-up mode, having recently begun accepting our first grants and moving quickly to build our operating model. This is a pivotal moment for the Foundation: we are ready to translate our mission and vision into a fully functioning philanthropic engine.

This will be the first full-time hire into the Foundation, working hand-in-hand with the Board of Trustees and the Chief Impact Officer to operationalise our mission, establish systems and processes, and set the stage for ambitious, high-impact fundraising, grant management, programme delivery, and partnership development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Leadership

Translate the Conduit executive leadership and Foundation Board’s vision into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.

Collaborate with The Conduit’s Impact team to integrate Foundation initiatives into broader Conduit strategy.

Identify and cultivate opportunities for funding, partnerships, and programme innovation.

2. Grants Management

Oversee the full grant cycle – from prospecting to evaluation - managing relationships, projects and budgets.

Ensure all grant activities meet legal, regulatory, and ethical standards, including England & Wales charity compliance.

Develop robust processes for impact measurement and reporting.

3. Board Development & Governance

Strengthen the governance set up, bolstering policies and procedures to establish best practice and managing legal and regulatory requirements for the Foundation.

Serve as the principal contact for the Board of Trustees, preparing materials, facilitating meetings and owning resulting actions.

Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing engagement of Trustees.

Advise the Board on trends and opportunities in philanthropy and social impact.

4. Fundraising & Corporate Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with corporate, institutional, and high-net-worth partners.

Identify and secure grants from funders that align with Foundation strategic priorities.

5. Programme Design & Delivery

Lead the design, launch, and management of the Foundation’s first in-house programmes.

Ensure programmes are innovative, impactful, and aligned with strategic priorities.

Set up systems for monitoring, learning, and continuous improvement.

6. Organisational Integration

Manage the relationship between the Foundation, Conduit Holdco, and The Conduit Club London.

Foster a culture of alignment, transparency, and shared mission across entities.

Skills & Experience

· 8–10 years of proven, hands-on execution experience in the UK charity sector, including setting up and implementing systems.

· Track record of delivering complex projects from start to finish with excellence and attention to detail.

· Strong experience and expertise in grants management, board engagement and governance.

· Proven success in fundraising from corporates, trusts, foundations, and major donors.

· Experience designing and delivering impactful programmes.

· Excellent relationship building skills with experience engaging senior stakeholders.

· Understanding of UK charity law and charitable governance.

Campaigning is vital to a healthy society. In a free and hopeful society, people need to know they have the power to make a difference: they can envisage change and can push for that change to happen. For nearly two decades, we have run programmes for individuals and groups, offered support and advice and been a place to share knowledge on the keys areas of effective campaigning.

Each year, we work directly with up to 300 organisations and well over 1000 people. They are tackling a wide range of social issues across human rights, environment, health, housing, young people, and community. About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations and Systems Manager to join our team. As Operations and Systems Manager, you will ensure SMK’s operations are well managed, and make sure that we have all the processes, technology and policies needed to operate effectively. We’re looking for someone to take initiative to improve things where needed and bring their experience from elsewhere to the team.   

The Operations and Systems Manager will work closely with the CEO, Board and staff team of 6, and hold the relationships with our external IT, Accounting and HR providers. You will also play a key role within the organisation in shaping culture and supporting staff to carry out their roles to the best of their abilities.

Flexible and Hybrid Working

Our office base is located in central London. You need to be in the office for a minimum of 1 day per week and further Team Days and Board Away Days. Travel and accommodation for working at our London office is at the job-holders own expense. Expenses incurred for SMK business outside London are covered by the charity.

The 15hours per week can be worked flexibly across Monday to Thursday, with a preference for them to include at least part of Monday and Tuesday to accommodate our weekly team meetings (Monday mornings) and Board Meetings which occur quarterly (Tuesday afternoons)..
