About you:

This is a terrific opportunity to play a fundamental role as Research Communications Manager at Muscular Dystrophy UK’s in developing and shaping our research communications ensuring the timely and proactive communication of our research impact.

• You will have a strong ability for explaining research and science to a lay audience. 
• You  will also proactively identify communication opportunities and ideas for engaging content to promote and publicise our research projects.
• You will work closely with teams across the organisation providing them with information about our research activity to support their work.
• You will manage the charity’s research information service, our Research Line.
• You will work with the Director of Research and Innovation and Director of Marketing and Communications to lead the development of our research communications plan.​

What You will be doing

The role is responsible for managing social media channels, delivering impactful digital campaigns, coordinating external advertising across print and digital platforms, and producing high-quality marketing materials. • Lead all digital communications, including website, social media and online campaigns
• Manage and create content for the website, overseeing written, visual and video
• Develop and deliver a planned schedule of communications activity across all channels.
• Develop and maintain a compelling library of supporter stories (written, film and imagery), ensuring appropriate permissions and coverage across key research areas

• Work closely with the fundraising team to optimise digital communications

• Track and analyse digital performance using tools such as Google Analytics and income reports, using insight to continuously improve effectiveness

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Beacon is seeking a creative, organised, and digitally savvy Digital Content and Communications Officer, whose role will focus on two main areas: delivering day-to-day communications and supporting digital projects.

At the heart of this role is driving engagement with Beacon’s events and projects, strengthening our community connections, and communicating our impact clearly and effectively. You will coordinate content across multiple channels - including social media, email, newsletters, and the Beacon website - and monitor the effectiveness of these communications. This includes writing copy, creating graphics and video content, scheduling and publishing materials, and engaging with the rare disease community on behalf of Beacon. You will also drive promotional and outreach activity, helping connect with patient groups, partners, and wider networks to amplify Beacon’s work.

You will support The Resources Hub (our e-learning platform) by assisting with uploading, formatting, publishing, and updating content. As you grow in the role and depending on your skills and capacity, there may be opportunities to contribute to content development, coordinate volunteers and external partners, or assist with other digital projects, such as podcast production, video series, or multimedia content.

While the focus and direction of your work will stem from ongoing events, projects, and organisational priorities, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of your work and play a key role in driving communications forward. You will collaborate closely with the Digital Resources Manager, COO, and wider Beacon team to gather information, shape messaging, and ensure content is accurate, timely, and aligned with organisational goals.

At the same time, in a small organisation, everyone is expected to take responsibility for their work, demonstrate initiative, and confidently manage their day-to-day tasks.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Gather information, insights, and key messages from colleagues across the organisation to guide content priorities for communications.
• Draft and schedule social media posts across Beacon’s channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) using Hootsuite, ensuring a consistent flow of content.
• Engage with the rare disease community on social media, responding to comments, shares, and messages in Beacon’s voice, and actively interacting with posts from patient groups, partners, and other relevant organisations.
• Facilitate the bi-weekly newsletters on Mailchimp and LinkedIn, including drafting copy, formatting content, and scheduling.
• Liaise with colleagues across the organisation and, where necessary, coordinate input from team members to ensure communications tasks are delivered effectively.
• Support website updates in WordPress and Divi, including uploading news posts, blogs, homepage banners, and other routine page updates, as well as drafting copy as needed.
• Assist with maintaining The Resources Hub by uploading, formatting, publishing, and updating content.
• Create graphics and simple videos using Photoshop/Premier Elements and Canva, using templates initially and gradually developing skills to produce original content, ensuring all visual material aligns with Beacon’s branding guidelines.

• Monitor the impact of communications on engagement with Beacon’s activities.

FLEXIBLE WORKING

We offer flexible working practices to support a healthy balance between personal and professional life, including hybrid working and flexible hours. Our hybrid working policy requires staff to be office-based for at least 50% of their working time.

Given the high level of cross-team collaboration involved in the Digital Content and Communications Officer role, regular in-person working is particularly important. Following an initial in-person onboarding period, our preference is for this role to be based in the office for at least three days per week on average, to support effective communication and smooth day-to-day working.

Media relations

• Work with the Head of Communications & Membership to respond to media inquiries and support crisis communication efforts as needed.
• Research and create compelling media content, including proactive and reactive press releases.

Experience and skills required

Essential

• Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive content.

Allsorts' mission is to listen to, connect, and support children and young people under the age of 26 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer (LGBTQ+), or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Synchronicity Earth is looking for a Senior Philanthropy Marketing Officer to create, curate, and design compelling materials to showcase Synchronicity Earth’s programmes and partners around the world and promote our distinct philanthropic approach. The (Senior) Communications Manager will lead the development and execution of communications to help us win our campaigns. We are looking for a proactive and hands-on team player, who will build relationships with journalists, securing media hits in top mainstream media, ensuring that communications are a strong part of our strategies to win campaigns.  While the position involves broader communications tasks, its core focus is strategic media work — driving impactful coverage, shaping narratives, and ensuring our investigative campaigns gain global visibility.

We are a small team, so this is a hands-on role with the focus on press work, but it also requires managing our key communications channels and our website. Candidate Profile

We are looking for an experienced communications professional with at least 7 years’ experience in journalism or in leading successful communications for a non-profit organisation, PR agency, or similar. Ideally, you are a creative, hands-on individual with great inter-personal skills, able to form collaborative working relationships with a variety of different stakeholders, ranging from journalists to creative agencies and our NGO partners.

• Demonstrable experience personally leading media outreach for major investigations or campaigns, with a proven record of securing top-tier international and national coverage (e.g. Financial Times, Guardian, Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, major broadcasters).
• A strong, active network of journalist contacts, and the confidence and instinct to pick up the phone, pitch stories, brief reporters, and manage embargoed launches under tight deadlines.
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English, with the ability to craft sharp press materials; proficiency in additional languages is an asset.

We are looking for a permanent and full-time member of staff to help develop and communicate RSTMH’s role within tropical medicine and global health. We need a passionate and creative communicator who can play a key role in meeting our communications objectives. This role is office-based in central London, with the option to work from home on Mondays.

RSTMH is a membership society formed in 1907, with around 1,800 members and Fellows in over 100 countries. We work to improve tropical medicine and global health by enabling and promoting research, sharing knowledge and convening networks through our members and Fellows and beyond. The Communications Manager will have the opportunity to develop and enhance RSTMH’s reputation as a credible and trusted voice in tropical medicine and global health.

This is a wide-ranging and exciting role. You will lead on implementing the organisation’s communications strategy, working with the leadership team to ensure it meets the aims of the wider RSTMH strategy. You’ll maintain and further develop the website and social media platforms, build links with media contacts, and source, commission and develop content.
