Members are an important source of volunteers for our governance and peer support groups. The role

Whilst you will predominately cover the Surrey catchment area, you will be happy and flexible to work anywhere within the south east, together with some degree of flexibility with the hours that you work, so that events can be held on occasional evenings and weekends.  Your time will be spent at home developing your sessions, delivering a range of activities such as guided walks or talks, as well as hands on activities in and around a river, or educational events.

The Care Navigator will support those with long term conditions to access timely care and community support services. Working closely with Camden GP practices and Integrated Care Teams is required as is accurate record keeping using IT systems. The successful candidate will come from an information/advice, social care or health background, must be computer literate, and have excellent people and communication skills, and able to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Experience of person centred planning is required. For this role it is essential that you to have the ability to travel across Camden as the role involves visiting clients in their own homes. Hospitals need to free up beds by discharging patients who do not need to remain in hospital. Despite the pressures we want discharges to be safe, successful and as painless as possible for patients. We also want to ensure a patient is not readmitted into hospital. 

The Hospital Discharge Community Support Coordinator will match Age UK Lambeth (AUKL) volunteers and partner organisation volunteers to support a patient's discharge. Volunteers could provide support with transport, practical support such as food shopping or completing home safety checks. Upon discharge volunteers may continue supporting patients for up to 4 weeks, providing support in person (at the individual's home or in the community) and over the phone, linking them into support services and helping them access the community to prevent hospital readmission.

What you’ll be doing?

1. Oversee the development of a new, inclusive volunteer programme that offers a range of diverse and challenging volunteer roles to support patients leaving hospital and once settled home. 

2. Work in partnership with the VCS to create 100 volunteering opportunities to support hospital discharge.

3. Using the volunteer platform, Care for Me, track allocated tasks to ensure they’re completed. Monitor volunteer reports to review the support and work delivered under the project.

4. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital to ensure appropriate referrals are made into the service.

Contract type: Permanent, Full Time, 35 hours per week

Location: London, UK subject to the right to work. 

UK Hybrid Working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in London office, or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid. WaterAid is located at Canary Wharf, London and this will be your location and contract base.

About the Team 

The WaterAid Media and Celebrity team is fast paced and dynamic, working on a multitude of exciting projects.. No two days are the same and we need a proactive and efficient Media and Celebrity Team Assistant to support with the smooth running of the team. The team works creatively to spread awareness of WaterAid and our work through UK and global news and PR coverage and engaging and working with our celebrity supporters cross-platform and function.  

About the Role 

In this role you will undertake a wide range of tasks from keeping our media admin running; ensuring our planning and monitoring tools up to date; supporting with team meetings and events; helping the team with overseas travel plans; liaising with celebrity agents and keeping up-to-date with what’s new in showbiz; managing our Media BlueSky; writing press releases for key campaigns. A passion for communications, ability to juggle multiple projects and excellent communication skills are essential. The role is hugely valued by the team and wider WaterAid teams and an excellent entry level role into communications in the charity sector working on some of the most urgent and important issues of our time.  This is a perfect development role to obtain key skills in media, communications and celebrity and influencer engagement, supporting the team to deliver wide portfolio of creative and highly visible projects for WaterAid to drive our fundraising, brand and advocacy objectives.

In this role, you will help the team to deliver key media moments as well as supporting on engaging our celebrity supporters with our work.  You will keep the team running smoothly by ensuring our processes and systems are running effectively and are up to date.   

You’ll also:  

• Maintain and update contact and pitch lists for journalists
• Using our media monitoring system, produce monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
• Compile a daily summary of news coverage for the wider organisation.
• Monitor and assist in use of the WaterAid BlueSky account 
• General support on key media moments, including background research, writing press releases, assisting with planning and logistics at events and stunts, media outreach. 
• Complete background and ethical checks on talent as per WaterAid’s policy and internal processes 
• Research and compile talent lists for activations and campaigns as required 
• Assist the Talent team with their activations with celebrities and content creators

Requirements

To be successful, you’ll need:  

• Calm, approachable and open disposition. 
• Proven experience of working in an administrative capacity preferably in a busy office environment.
• An interest in digital, social and traditional media, awareness of trends
• Excellent time management. Ability to organise and prioritise a busy workload and work to tight or conflicting deadlines. 
• Good communication and listening skills, the ability to network and form effective relationships with a variety of internal and external colleagues and stakeholders. 
• Excellent IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential 
• Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these. 

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have: 

• Experience and good understanding of social media
• Interest in international issues including development, rights or humanitarian.

With oversight by the Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs, you will support the collection, preparation, organisation, and use of the Science team’s key information resources which contribute to ensuring that our work and external communications are underpinned by accurate and robust evidence.

You will support the Science team in inputting to marketing and fundraising efforts as well the preparation of press releases and other forms of external communication. Your work will contribute to ensuring that the organisation’s advocacy, media and supporter communications are based on accurate, evidence-based science.

You will also work with the organisation’s press and media function to help maintain the quality of media coverage relating to animal testing and animal-free science. In collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners you will work to support research and contribute to the production of high-quality scientific material which can be used to advance the agenda to end all animal testing, including through the provision of the organisation’s digital education service.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the preparation, organisation, and maintenance of key Science team information resources which underpin our work and provide support for their use across the organisation. This includes responsibility for maintaining a well-organised central knowledge base to ensure our work is easily tracked, accessed and referenced.
• Support and input into research and contribute to the production of high-quality scientific material, including briefings, reports, presentations, posters, and summaries of the latest developments to support the Science team’s work. Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely press releases and support increased media coverage for our organisation.
• Support the preparation and maintenance of up-to-date briefings for internal and external use on emerging trends and latest developments in non-animal approaches, as well as helping to maintain the organisation’s specialist expertise in key regulatory toxicology topics.
• Contribute to raising awareness across the organisation on animal testing issues and the work of the Science team.
• Provide support to the Director, and Deputy Director, of Science & Regulatory Affairs on regulatory toxicology and other scientific issues, as required.
• At the request of the Deputy Director of Science & Regulatory Affairs, undertake any other duties consistent with this post.
