Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. Selling womenswear, menswear, shoes, and bags to household goods, our shops can be found in the London villages and bring in vital funds for Save the Children.

Our Blackheath Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Why we need you:

This role is vital to the work of FareShare Merseyside. You will be preparing and cooking meals for our volunteers and staff, cleaning down the kitchen, and adhering to allergen, HACCP, and other compliance checks.

For the role of the Volunteer Kitchen Assistant, a background in food is desirable but not essential. If you have experience working in a kitchen, a passion for food and sustainability, and a willingness to learn new skills whilst working in a small team, you would be a great fit for this role!

What will I be doing?

• Helping to plan, create, and cook meals from surplus food for volunteer and staff lunches.
• Carrying out routine kitchen cleaning, health and safety checks, and completing all relevant paperwork.
• Assisting with one- off corporate or fundraising events.
• Representing FareShare in a courteous and professional manner at all times.

What we need you to be:

• Minimum of 18 years old
• Passionate about food and saving surplus food from going to waste
• Positive, friendly and personable, able to interact well with different people 
• Good with numbers, identifying different foods, writing clearly  
• Able to work well in a team and on your own   
• Able to follow FareShare’s policies & procedures

Your Mission as a Trustee

This is more than just a volunteer role. You'll be instrumental in laying the groundwork for a charity that will become a cherished part of London's community. You'll join a team of up to eight trustees and help with everything from strategy to governance.

• Time: We ask for a minimum of 3 hours per month, including five board meetings a year. At times arranged to suit the Trustees.

• Location: Meetings are a mix of online and in-person in London.

Our mission is to prevent sexual exploitation and trafficking by advocating for policy reform, raising public awareness, and providing comprehensive support to victims/survivors. The organisation aims to assist vulnerable youth, particularly girls, and women, influence public discourse through education, and foster systemic change to enhance protections for individuals impacted by exploitation and trafficking.

Purpose of Role

The Communications Officer will play a key role in ensuring effective internal and external communication across Emerge Worldwide. This role will be responsible for producing high-quality newsletters, managing communication with partners, collaborators, influencers, and associates, maintaining organisational directories, and supporting the flow of information across departments. The Communications Officer will also manage calendars, support administrative needs, and liaise with the social media team to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.

This position requires excellent organisational, IT, and communication skills, alongside a proactive approach to supporting the charity’s mission and daily operations.

Role Description - What will I be doing?

 Communications & Engagement

• Draft, design, and distribute newsletters and organisational updates to stakeholders.
• Maintain effective communication with partners, collaborators, influencers, and associates.
• Identify and manage key contacts and opportunities for engagement.
• Share key information across internal departments and teams to improve collaboration.
• Work with departments to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
• Support the development of communication strategies to raise Emerge Worldwide’s profile.

 Administration & Coordination

• Respond to general email enquiries and redirect them appropriately.
• Manage shared drives, organisational directories, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
• Coordinate and set up meetings, including preparing agendas and taking minutes.
• Support calendar management for the organisation, ensuring alignment across departments.
• Assist with the preparation of presentations, reports, and communication materials.
• Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure smooth organisational communication flow.
• Work within agreed budgets and managing resources effectively.

 Technical & IT

• Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting, communication, and presentations.
• Support the use of Mailchimp or other IT software for mass communications.
• Maintain mailing lists, contact directories, and subscription platforms.
• Ensure compliance with data protection, GDPR, and organisational policies when managing contacts.

 Other Duties

• Support wider organisational projects and campaigns where communication is required.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
• Participate in departmental and cross departmental progress meetings, training, and 1:1s
• Undertake training and professional development as required.

Volunteering in the shop

Our Bearsden Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

About White Ribbon Alliance UK

White Ribbon Alliance UK is an intersectional feminist charity working to end gender-based violence and advance gender equity in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We focus especially on marginalised and underrepresented communities.

Through research, advocacy, training, and systems change, we centre the voices of women, girls, and trans and non-binary people across the lifecycle of sexual and reproductive health. Our programmes are grounded in intersectional feminist values and led by lived experience.

About the Role

We are recruiting Campaign & Fundraising Volunteers to support the charity in achieving its fundraising goals for the annual The Big Give's  Women & Girls Match Fund. It is a national campaign to raise £20,000 to fight medical misogyny in gynaecological and perinatal care. All donations made through our campaign page will be matched up to the first £5,000 raised by The Big Give, and we would like to find corporate or individual donors who are willing to match donations as well, or make one-off donations of their own.

Our project team consists of experts in social media marketing, campaign content creation, graphic design, digital communications, and project administration. We now need additional volunteer to support donor outreach and fundraising efforts — helping us build relationships, increase visibility, and reach new supporters before and during the campaign week, or to run small fundraisers locally in your community. 

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll join a small, supportive team and contribute in ways that suit your skills and capacity. Depending on your interests, tasks may include:

Donor Outreach & Fundraising

• Reaching out to individual, corporate, or high-value donors

• Helping us recruit and liaise with influencers who care about women's and girls' reproductive health

• Writing or editing outreach messages, talking points, and thank-yous

• Coordinating small peer-led fundraisers (e.g. bake sales, quiz nights, digital events)

• Helping us track responses, donations, and follow-ups

We’ll provide all materials, templates, and guidance — you’ll never be left to figure it out alone.

What You’ll Get From It

• A hands-on role in a nationally profiled fundraising campaign

• Experience in digital fundraising, donor relations, and campaigning

• Supervision and support from WRA UK staff and senior volunteers

Who This Role Is For

We’re looking for people who are:

• Available to begin ASAP as the campaign preparation has begun so that we are ready for the week the fundraising event runts (8-15 October)

• Confident communicators and relationship builders

• Proactive, reliable, and responsive

• Passionate about equity in reproductive healthcare

• Able to work independently but keen to collaborate with a team

• Fundraising, stakeholder management, and sales experience —not mandatory, but nice to have.

• Motivation and willingness to help.
