About the Role
As a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer, you will collaborate with our Business Analyst (BA) Manager to design, develop, implement, document, and maintain robust data modelling and reporting solutions. Your role will involve hands-on work, including prototyping solutions, testing ideas, and collaborating with organisational colleagues. Working closely with our Data Manager and Data Technician, you will also contribute to our data warehousing solution and the development of data pipelines and be responsible for data preparation, modelling, and utilising DAX. You will also work closely with our fundraising Insight team, creating analytic solutions to support our fundraising efforts.

What you will be doing in the role:
- Working with people across the organisation to understand their analytical requirements.
- Developing, testing, and implementing analytical solutions and data visualisations that empower teams to gain valuable insights from their data.
- Taking ownership of new and existing data models.
- Managing the lifecycle of data models and reporting solutions.
- Working with the BA Manager to define best practices and facilitate knowledge sharing for Power BI development, governance, and deployment across the organisation.
- Ensuring that development aligns with the overall BI strategy and adheres to best practices.
- Responding to incidents and change requests related to existing solutions via our AutoTask helpdesk solution.
- Updating and managing tickets appropriately and timely as the Service Desk Manager sets out, ensuring good communication and customer satisfaction.
- Composing technical and team documentation as required.
- Collaborating and demonstrating analytical solutions to the broader team before roll-out.
- Offering input and advice on processes and practices to improve the team's efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assisting with implementing new solutions, as necessary, with the Business Systems Transformation project.
- To undertake any other duties as requested by the IT management team per the scope and responsibilities of the role.

This role will lead on the development and implementation of an integrated data strategy for the charity, working collaboratively with all departments to understand their data needs and supporting the use of data to improve performance and maximise our impact.
As a Data Analyst, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our data systems and processes, as well as extracting key insights and identifying trends to inform decision-making and drive organisational growth.
You will provide our teams with insightful reporting and data analytics using internal and external data across marketing, donor and operational activity, to optimise our fundraising activity and increase income.
This role is integral to ensuring there is consistency in the way the charity collects and processes data and will be the first point of contact for advice and guidance for data issues. You will be responsible for developing a training programme to support database users to become competent day-to-day users and will deliver further training on specific aspects of the data management systems when required.
Your work will be a mix of direct support to our fundraising and delivery teams, improving and adapting our CRMs and data management systems, leading on improvement projects, and producing high quality analytics to demonstrate impact and support strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Database Management & Information Governance
· Undertake the role of Systems Administrator for the charity CRMs and data management systems, responsible for global updates and high-level administration functions.
· Manage and maintain the Fundraising Team CRM system (currently Raisers Edge) and the Services Team CRM (currently File Maker Pro) to ensure they are a reliable source of supporter and patient data.
· Liaise with the CRM developers to stay abreast of software developments and attend training sessions to be updated on best practise for its use.
· Work with CRM users to ensure data management best practice is being adhered to and provide support and guidance when required.
· Investigate and correct data inconsistencies, missing or incomplete data and duplicate records to ensure the CRM produces consistent results and information.
· Work closely with the Head of Fundraising and the Data Protection Lead to ensure that data is processed in a way that is compliant with official registers: the Fundraising Regulator, the ICO, telephone preference services (TPS), mailing preference services (MPS) and other legislative/best practice requirements.
· Manage data consent, privacy and compliance with GDPR regulations across all data management systems.
· Maximise opportunities to grow our database of supporters using digital and other data collection methods, leading on compliance with appropriate consent processes and engaging and supporting colleagues involvement.
Data Insight
· Liaise with fundraisers to fully understand their objectives and data requirements for appeals, communication with donors and event planning.
· Liaise with the Services Team to implement reporting methods that provide insights showing use of services, client demographics and referral patterns to inform service development and budget decisions.
· Support fundraising campaigns with data analysis and reporting to improve donor retention and income generation.
· Generate regular reports and visualisations for internal and external use to demonstrate the impact of our fundraising and services.
· Work collaboratively with our Fundraising, Marketing and Event teams to evaluate campaign performance and provide data-driven insights and recommendations for improvements.
· Lead the wider team to develop high quality and insightful KPI reports and analysis for each area of the charity.
· Lead the compilation of our annual report data to provide a comprehensive account of the charity’s performance and impact over the past year.
Systems Development
· Create user-friendly processes that allow the team to easily submit and retrieve data from the charity’s data management systems and CRMs.
· Design information systems and analytical tools for impact reporting purposes to inform service delivery, strategic thinking and new ways of working.
· Lead an evaluation of our current donation and marketing online platforms to identify opportunities to simplify the donor journey and enhance donor engagement.
· Identify and implement opportunities for automation and integration of systems across departments to streamline the data collection process.
· Maintain knowledge of technological developments, staying up to date with emerging trends and making recommendations for innovative process improvements.
· Lead the scoping and commissioning of new CRMs and data management systems and lead the implementation process, including accurate transfer of data between systems.
Financial & Technical Accounting
· Collaborate with the Finance Team to provide analysis of trends, and annual performance activity to support the monthly financial reporting pack and enable evidence-based decision making.
· Collate information to assist the Finance Team with increasing the value of donations through the recovery of income tax under the gift aid scheme.
· Provide the Finance Team with data analysis and insights to support the annual and three-year budget planning process.
Training Others
· Provide comprehensive in-house training to new and existing staff members to ensure consistent data recording processes are followed.
· Monitor data quality standards and address areas which need attention with additional training or support.
· Ensure data protection policies are followed and provide guidance to staff on the Data Protection Act and requirements for storing sensitive information.
Other
· Attend and contribute to team meetings and 'away days' and be an active, invested member of our team.
· Ability and willingness to travel throughout the region to attend charity fundraising events and outreach services.
· Able to work flexibly, including working in the evenings and at weekends.

What we are looking for:
- Previous analytical experience
- Advanced Excel skills

The company is working in this highly innovative area to accelerate the development of new treatments, improve healthcare services, and advance our understanding of complex, debilitating conditions like Major Depressive Disorder, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder and Alzheimer’s disease.
To do this, we curate a globally unique dataset of more than 4.6 million patients’ anonymised psychiatric electronic health records (EHRs) for research use. A crucial part of our curation process is the application of AI-enable natural language processing algorithms to structure the free text elements of the EHR (clinical notes, letters, reports etc). Development of these NLP models is the primary focus of our in-house AI team, in which this role sits.
The AI Team are primarily responsible for developing and training the Natural Language Processing models that underpin Akrivia’s data structuring pipeline. The goal of this activity is to develop accurate, clinically valid, explainable, and scalable NLP models to extract new structured data from EHR free-text fields. The AI Team collaborate closely with the Research Team (to match the outputs of their models to research needs), the Engineering Team (to embed their models into Akrivia’s data processing pipeline), and with the Client Engagement team (to help platform users apply their model outputs effectively). The AI Team also carry out exploratory research to develop new applications of AI for improving mental health research and treatment.
The role will require strong technical skills with a focus on artificial intelligence approaches to natural language processing. A successful candidate will work on developing our existing technology solutions, develop novel applications of AI to solve challenges in the mental health space, and support our users in industry, academia and the NHS to apply our AI-derived data for their own research programs. The role would suit candidates with a strong interest in healthcare applications of AI and NLP, and/or explainable, transparent AI methods. Further details of the duties are provided below.
Duties

Lead and manage a team of AI scientists and healthcare data analysts, providing mentorship, guidance, and support in their professional development and project execution.

Take joint accountability (with the Head of AI/Research) for the accuracy, clinical validity, transparency and efficiency of models created by the AI team.
-
Carry out prototyping, exploratory research and literature review to develop novel applications of AI and related technologies to improve the breadth, depth and accuracy of our data structuring pipeline.

Work with the Head of AI/Research to plan the AI Team’s development roadmap, set the strategic direction for AI at Akrivia Health, and communicate these plans to the wider company.

Work with the Research Team to ensure that Akrivia’s data structuring models can best serve research applications.

Work with the Data Engineering team to embed models developed by the AI Team into Akrivia’s automated data processing pipeline.

Work with the Data Engineering and Platform Development teams to ensure our AI model outputs are presented accurately, and in a way that supports their effective research application.

Work with the Client Engagement team to ensure Akrivia’s AI models meet user requirements, and to communicate our AI development work in a transparent and comprehensible way to non-technical users.

Disseminate the AI Team’s work via peer reviewed publication, client presentations and conference attendance.

Grow the AI Team’s network of academic, healthcare and industry collaborators in the clinical AI space.

Identify and prepare grant applications to support Akrivia-led and collaborative AI development projects.
YOU BRING WITH YOU:

PhD-level qualification (or equivalent industry experience) in a field with a substantial component of applied AI methods

High level of knowledge of machine learning methods, applications & validation methods.

High level of knowledge of NLP techniques, including experience applying Large Language Models for text processing.

Proficient in Python (or another language plus foundational python skills)

Experience as a team leader, mentor or supervisor, with a desire to help grow our team of AI scientists through line management and technical leadership.
