Swarthmoor Hall in Ulverston is a place of international significance as the birth of the Quaker movement. It comprises a small historic visitor attraction with gardens, a café, on site holiday accommodation plus facilities for the local community. Swarthmoor Hall has lots to offer local visitors and tourists, it is a great place to work with an excellent team. We have plans to develop the attraction further, this along with increasing visitor numbers means we need two new staff.
We’re looking for motivated and flexible staff to support us opening the Hall and gardens to more visitors, as well as promoting and supervising our self-catering holiday accommodation and café to be open year-round.
In this role, you will bring experience of managing people, and you will have skills and abilities from working in a range of relevant work settings e.g. café/holiday accommodation/visitor attraction. You will bring lots of energy and ideas on how we can continue to increase the numbers of visitors and improve their experience.
The site is open all year round in 2025, Wednesday to Friday as well as some weekends and bank holidays, and we’re looking to extend this in 2026 and beyond as we grow and develop.

About the Service
Our Nightlight Service is proud to provide urgent support, crisis intervention and emotional support to people experiencing a mental health crisis in Hertfordshire as an alternative to statutory pathways.
We provide support to adults across Hertfordshire 7 days a week, 365 days a year through our helpline, crisis centres, crisis cafes and a weekend Crisis House. We aim to provide a safe space for people in crisis to talk and feel supported, be listened to without judgement, access relevant support with problem solving and facilitate access to external services when necessary. As a member of our team you will work closely with service users in crisis by using a person-centred approach as to ensure that each individual is supported with dignity and respect.
The objectives of Hertfordshire Mind Network’s (HMN) Nightlight Mental Health Crisis Services are:
- To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in Hertfordshire.
- To increase early access to help for people experiencing mental health crisis in Hertfordshire, by providing a clear and effective pathway to services provided by Herts Mind Network and other third sector and statutory providers.

- To remain a source of independent support for all clients.

About the Role
Mental Healthcare Support Workers are key members of staff delivering the Nightlight Mental Health Crisis Service, taking part in a rota covering 7 days per week, ensuring the delivery of quality crisis support services and instilling Hertfordshire Mind Network’s values throughout the crisis cafe and helpline provision. Working closely with other staff (bank staff, volunteers), coordinators, team leaders and Crisis manager to ensure services are of the highest quality and support the continued growth and development of the service.
By honouring the individual experience of each service user, we are able to respect their autonomy as well as encourage and facilitate positive steps towards management of crisis and recovery.
Whilst experience is advantageous, the most important thing to us and the people we support is having the right values, skills and commitment to delivering high quality, person centred mental health crisis support.

Key Responsibilities:
The Training Centre Assistant Manager will be responsible for understanding and actively monitoring all contractual and other relevant compliance requirements of all trainee funded placements. This will include developing guidance materials and delivering training as required in order to support the HTC team. You will oversee operational monitoring of expenditure and income against the agreed set HTC budget and provide regular reporting on financial performance.

We are the Wandsworth representative of the national City of Sanctuary (CoS) charity. This project will support the committee and expand our activities in the voluntary and community sector and elsewhere to build commitment to Sanctuaries in the Borough. Wandsworth has a small but active network supporting refugees. The existing sanctuaries include a theatre, cafe and shop. Our Wandsworth libraries are en route to become sanctuaries and there is active interest from schools and faith groups. The contract is initially for 62 days over one year. Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees is a charity and operates primarily on a voluntary basis. We aim to make Wandsworth a welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary to feel safe, supported and part of our community. WWR is part of the City of Sanctuary movement and is the accredited organization in Wandsworth. We work with voluntary and community sector (VCS) and other organisations to encourage and support those wishing to reach out to refugees. We liaise with those interested in finding out more, offering general support, offering general support, or seeking to become accredited with City of Sanctuary.
Objectives of the project
The project will support the WWR committee activities and objectives. It will expand WWR reach and contacts in the VCS and other appropriate places and organisations. It will raise the profile of the sanctuary movement and encourage active participation by various organisations to create welcoming communities for people seeking sanctuary. Participation can range from an interest and small steps through to becoming accredited with City of Sanctuary.
Wandsworth and Sanctuaries
Sanctuaries include community groups, private organizations, public sector services, and individuals, united in their commitment to supporting those fleeing violence and persecution. Wandsworth is a Borough of Sanctuary, and the accredited organisations at present include a theatre, café and shop. Wandsworth libraries and some faith groups and schools are in the process of applying to become accredited. There is interest from other theatres, shops, sporting facilities and many others.
Role of the Community Engagement Officer

The Role

OPERATIONS MANAGER - ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Manager is a key support for the church’s leadership and heads the staff team providing management over key operational and missional areas of the church’s activities.
This leadership role supports the ethos and ministries of the church and its mission to be a church for the community - discovering Jesus, sharing God’s love, and caring for those in need.
A vital aim for our church’s work in the local community is that our staff relationships, our Venue ministry, our Christian hospitality and how we use and share our building should all reflect God’s character - showing compassion, generosity, and kindness.

- Assist the Venue Manager to develop and maintain suitable and effective systems, strategy, pricing, communications, contract management, staffing and customer relations.
- Develop the church’s visibility and profile in the community using the church’s website, social media, ArtSpace, and missional displays and exhibitions, ensuring these align with the church’s ethos and mission.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE
Candidates should be able to demonstrate either experience in the following areas of responsibility and/or the skills needed to carry out these responsibilities.
Preferred leadership experience – preferably in a church or other Christian organisation:
- The ability to contribute to the management decision making process.
- Understanding of the church and charitable sector.
- Leading and managing projects of a diverse and complex nature in a team-oriented workplace and of delivering operational excellence in challenging environments.
- Leading and creating effective teams and of working co-operatively and collaboratively with others. Experience in delegating effectively.

- Operations and building management.
- Administrative and operational support,

- Oversight of finances and managing budgets. Understanding of financial management systems - able to interpret and define financial reports.

- Technical experience required for effective team working, including email, online meeting forums, and shared calendars and drives. Proficient in the use of Office 365 suite including Word and Excel.
- Experience in the use of websites and social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to promote public awareness. Experience in the use of Square Space, Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, to produce website and social media content, and for graphic design of posters, church displays and exhibition materials.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the work environment.
- Holds a UK driving licence.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND HOW TO APPLY
The role is full time (37.5 hours / week - flexible schedule across at least 4 days, core hours from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm) with occasional need to work out of hours.
Please note that the nature of the role means that hybrid working is not an option.
Salary £32,400 to £36,000 depending on the competencies and experience of the successful candidate. The package also includes 28 days’ leave + Bank Holidays, and a workplace pension (with 4% employer contribution) following the successful completion of probation.
In line with our safer recruitment policy, the successful candidate will have to undertake a DBS check and all those invited to interview will be required to complete a declaration of suitability and provide references. References will be taken up prior to appointment.
