Role Overview
You will be part of Shine’s specialist Health Team, providing condition-specific health advice and support to people of all ages living with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) or Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). You will support delivery of, delivering an established, evidence-based programme, promoting good self-management and care, and enabling our members to live in optimum health.
You will deliver high-quality, person-centred physiotherapy assessments, treatment, and advice to children, young people and adults with a wide range of physical needs, enabling them to maximise independence, function, and quality of life.
The role is home or hybrid based; member contact is predominantly via phone and video calls.
This job role is an exciting opportunity to join our specialised service delivering spinal stimulation. You will be attending a 2-day physiotherapy clinic once a month. Clinics take place on a rolling programme of one location per month, current locations include Birmingham, Bristol, Leicester, Leeds and Oxford but these may vary.
There will be occasional travel required across wider areas and nationally including attendance at conferences and meetings at our head office in Peterborough.

About the role:
At our Harrow Road Assessment Hub in Westminster, you will work within this short stay service with a multi-disciplinary team setting. This role involves working alongside people to navigate complex situations with empathy, understanding, and consistency. You’ll be supporting clients who have experienced rough sleeping and may be facing multiple disadvantage, often alongside mental ill health and substance use, at a point where the right intervention can change everything.
As a Specialist Multiple Disadvantage Worker, you’ll go beyond traditional support. You’ll use psychologically informed approaches, with a strong focus on harm minimisation, dual diagnosis and recovery, to build trust, unlock engagement and help clients make sense of their experiences. You’ll deliver targeted interventions both one-to-one and through our in-house recovery programme, helping people move from crisis towards stability and longer-term accommodation.
You’ll work at the centre of a fast-paced, multi-agency system, building strong relationships with health, Adult Social Care and specialist services to make sure clients can access and sustain the support they need. Alongside this, you’ll bring specialist knowledge into the team, shaping best practice and strengthening how we respond to complex needs across the service.
This is a role for someone who is confident working with complexity, motivated by impact, and committed to ensuring people are not left stuck in cycles of homelessness, but supported to move forward and rebuild.

- You bring strong experience working with people experiencing multiple disadvantage, including mental health and substance use, and understand how these needs intersect.

Shine supports a community of over 15,000 members living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, including 5,000 children and young people (0–25).
You will be delivering high-quality support and creating opportunities for children and young people living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and their families/carers. Supporting Shine members to lead healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives by improving condition management and fostering connections within the Shine community.
This role will focus on children and young people (0–25), you will be primarily working within the Children, Young People and Families team. However, there will be occasions when you will work across age groups to ensure the best outcomes for our members.
The role is home-based but you will be required to attend regular clinics in London including GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital). Other travel across Southern England including Bristol, Devon and Hampshire may be required. Charity People is delighted to be partnering with The Justice Together Initiative to recruit an Influencing and Grants Manager.
The Justice Together Initiative was launched in 2020 with a decade-long vision that people who use the UK immigration system can access justice fairly and equally, enabling them to get on with their lives. It is a unique and ambitious collaboration of several funder partners who have pooled more than £15 million of new funding to strategically invest in legal advice, strengthen immigration sector organisations over the long term, and local and national influencing to support the lawful and fair functioning of immigration, nationality, and asylum processes. It is hosted by Justice Collaborations which is an independent charity and wholly owned subsidiary of LEF.
As Influencing and Grants Manager you will work with colleagues, funder partners, sector experts and directly affected communities to lead the implementation of Justice Together's influencing strategy.
Primarily an influencing role, the postholder will also be responsible for managing a small number of influencing grants and will work closely with the Grants Manager and Grant Partner Community Manager to ensure that the process for grant renewals runs smoothly.
Contract: Permanent position, offered on either a full-time (35 hours) or part-time (28 hours) per week basis
Salary: £45,000 per annum full-time salary (£36,000 pro rata for four days per week)
Location: Hybrid role between home and London office, with one day per week in the London office

Justice Together has entered a new phase and is investing in influencing work to harness the organisation's partnerships, expertise, information and connections, both as a funder collaboration but also alongside grant partners and directly affected communities. This coupled with a change in government presents new opportunities to influence change in the way immigration advice is funded and delivered, and the broader functioning of the immigration system and how people access justice.
This is an exciting role, which offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of stakeholders to develop and implement Justice Together's influencing strategy
Core responsibilities within the role will be as follows:
- Work with colleagues, funder partners, sector experts and directly affected communities to lead the implementation of Justice Together's influencing strategy
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of Justice Together's influencing work, identifying opportunities to shape policy, public debate and practice
- Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including parliamentarians, policymakers, sector bodies, campaigners and funders
- Monitor political, policy and sector developments relevant to migration, racial justice, access to justice and the advice sector, and advise colleagues on emerging opportunities and risks
- Coordinate responses to consultations, policy developments, parliamentary opportunities and external calls for evidence
- Manage consultants or external specialists engaged to support influencing activity
- Convene and facilitate meetings, briefings and events with grant partners, funders and other stakeholders to support shared influencing priorities
- Work with colleagues and partners to capture learning from influencing activity and use this to strengthen future work
- Manage a small caseload of grants, building positive and constructive relationships with grant partners
- Work closely with the Grants Manager and colleagues on grant renewals, recommendations and decision-making processes including preparation of papers and summaries for the Grants Committee and other internal decision-making meetings
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Justice Together's strategy, priorities and ways of working

- Experience of delivering influencing, policy or campaigning work that has contributed to positive change
- Experience of building relationships with policymakers, funders, community organisations or other external stakeholders

- Understanding of the UK migration, racial justice, legal aid or advice sectors (or comparable social justice fields)
- Experience of coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
- Strong written communication skills, including drafting briefings, reports or external communications

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across different groups
- Able to work collaboratively while also managing your own workload independently

Responsibility
· Coordinate review of potential new awards, working with peer reviewers, patients, and committee members.
· Contract and onboard new research awards, ensuring all documentation, monitoring, and compliance requirements are met.
· Administer ongoing research grants (particularly Seed Grants and Racial Disparities Grants), including monitoring and evaluating scientific progress, supporting scientists to achieve results, maintaining financial records, with authority to approve minor changes to grant budgets and timelines.
· Collect and summarise project outcomes and learnings to feed into internal and external communications.
· Help design and deliver researcher engagement activities such as webinars, lab visits, and networking events.
· Maintain positive, empathetic relationships with patients, supporting their involvement in research and engagement activities where appropriate.
· Support on departmental logistics, e.g. organising team away days and meetings.
· Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture, supporting colleagues across departments and sharing expertise where needed.
Skills and Competencies

· A higher degree (MSc, MRes, PhD) in a relevant biomedical science discipline.
