Practice Specialists play a crucial role in preparing Think Ahead participants to become outstanding social workers. Sounds great, what will I be doing?

You will support women with multiple and complex needs across Hestia's pan-London refuges, ensuring they have access to therapeutic support that facilitates their recovery. You will provide immediate crisis intervention and create a safe, welcoming environment for women fleeing domestic abuse. You will ensure access to emergency supplies such as clothing and toiletries, apply for relevant grants, and help women maximise their income.

You will work closely with refuge staff, offering additional support and upskilling teams to manage challenging behaviours with resilience and confidence. You will build strong partnerships with external agencies including mental health services, drug and alcohol teams, the DWP, police, housing authorities, social services, and voluntary organisations to safeguard and promote the welfare of service users.

You will maintain relationships with GPs and health professionals to explore treatment options, including social prescribing, and support women in attending appointments. You will coordinate cases across multiple refuge sites, delivering bespoke interventions and high-quality assessments aligned with ‘The Hestia Approach', a trauma-informed framework that prioritises recovery and individual strengths.

You will co-produce Safety Plans and Strengths and Aspirations Plans with women, focusing on their goals and capabilities. You will provide domestic abuse support and risk management through tools such as DASH and MARAC, while ensuring compliance with safeguarding legislation for both children and adults. You will promote a trauma-informed, anti-racist, and intersectional feminist culture, placing women with multiple support needs at the centre of service delivery, and you will work in line with Hestia's values: Respectful, Genuine, Dedicated, Collaborative, and Courageous.

Single Homeless Project (SHP) and Islington Council are proud to introduce St. John’s Mansions - a brand-new, purpose-built accommodation service that will provide safe, high-quality housing for individuals experiencing homelessness and facing multiple exclusion. This innovative project is backed by the GLA’s Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP) 2022–2025, and represents a bold step forward in tackling homelessness across North London. SHP are building a dynamic, compassionate, and forward-thinking team to bring this vision to life. 

St. John’s Mansions will offer 19 beautifully finished self-contained studio flats, designed to support residents in their journey from rough sleeping and emergency accommodation to independent living. With a stay of up to 24 months, residents will receive tailored, high-intensity support to help them build the skills and confidence needed to thrive independently. 

The service will operate 24/7, with a welcoming reception and dedicated staff & clients spaces to enable both structured interventions and spontaneous, meaningful engagement. SHP will be working not only within Islington but in partnership with five North London boroughs - Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, and Westminster. This is more than just housing – it is a bridge to a better future. In this role, you’ll work closely with adults living in our accommodation, building trusting relationships and supporting them to take positive steps towards independence. Each day brings the chance to empower clients to manage their homes, connect with specialist services, and rebuild confidence, purpose and community in their lives.

We are looking for a proactive, motivated and collaborative PR Specialist (Senior Officer) to help us drive visibility, affinity, and relevance amongst new and existing audiences through a range of PR activity. A key focus of this role will be leading on the delivery of engaging and impactful PR activity with third parties including corporate partners and other organisations in our sector. The postholder will be responsible for identifying PR opportunities that help us emotionally connect, resonate and inspire audiences. This will include building meaningful partnerships and devising and delivering successful PR stories, events and campaigns across a diverse range of media to increase awareness and support in line with our Global Programmes, Our Voice (campaigning) and Income Generation strategies.

The PR Specialist will work closely with their PR team colleagues to deliver a public relations strategy in line with Battersea’s strategic objectives in the UK and internationally.
