About the role

The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.

Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.

The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.

Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.

The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.

The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.

You are a passionate and committed campaigner, determined to create societal change.

You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.

You will be comfortable working across the full marcomms mix and using different channels and platforms to reach audiences.

You will have great project management skills and will love keeping a project on track.

Media & Communications Officer

Business Disability Forum is the leading business membership organisation in disability inclusion. • Be a first point of contact for campaigners in Scotland, who want to improve services in their local area, and recruit and manage a sustainable network of local campaign volunteers specific to Scotland.

• Support the work of the Policy and Campaigns Manager to understand and influence UK wide and Scottish specific legislation, policy and practice relating to our communities and their needs

• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues and campaigners on how best to influence decision makers in Scotland.

• Use our UK-wide campaign priorities to deliver national and local campaign activity, and coordinate campaigns with other charities and organisations, where appropriate to further our goals.

• Strong people skills, and a commitment to putting the experiences and needs of people affected by Parkinson’s at the centre of your work

Key responsibilities within the Communications Officer role will include:

• Writing engaging copy for a variety of mediums including both printed and digital
• Support the Director of Fundraising and Communications in creating and designing digital and print collateral for campaigns and events
• Lead on the design and publication of high-quality digital and print information about Dystonia UK, its services, projects, and about dystonia, the condition, and medical services.

The Events Officer plays a key role in our highly effective communications team, leading on the delivery of an impactful programme of events – both online and in person. The role works with teams from across the organisation to plan, deliver and promote all types of events, including workshops, roundtables, conferences, webinars, receptions and other types of online and in person events.

Events are an important way for Ageing Better to influence priority audiences, including businesses and local and national government, and the postholder will advise teams on how events can best reach these audiences, encourage engagement and lead to lasting relationships.

This role sits within the Communications team, and the postholder will be responsible for drafting comms content, such as blogs and social media posts, particularly in relation to event promotion.

About you

You are highly organised, with excellent prioritisation and project management skills, enabling you to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. You have good attention to detail and enjoy planning, solving logistical problems and delivering events to a tight budget.

Assistance Dogs UK acts as an umbrella body for accredited assistance dog organisations. The Charity seeks to advance the education of the public and service providers about assistance dogs, and the rights of people who rely on them.

ADUK is a small but growing charity hoping to make a big impact for our already highly engaged members. Members work with us collaboratively to share their experience and knowledge, and this enables us to meet our charitable objectives and advance the industry. 

ADUK is looking for an experienced and dedicated professional to be part of our ambitious team at a key time for the charity.  In this new role, our Policy and Campaigns Manager will develop our policy positions and further our campaigning aims to promote standards-based approaches to the training and welfare of assistance dogs, and to facilitate better access for all those who rely on these highly trained dogs.

This is a new role so we are seeking someone who will be inspired by our work and be excited about making it a success.

It's a particularly exciting time to be joining Scope. We’ve just launched an ambitious new strategy, and we’ll be delivering a large-scale general election campaign, as well as a brand refresh. We want to make sure that 2024/2025 is a real turning point for disabled people – one in which our vision for an Equal Future starts to become a reality. You’ll be involved in shaping some of the key campaigning activity to make that happen.

Fixed Term until February 2025, 35 hours per week

Location: Here East Press Centre, 14 East Bay Lane, London, E15 2GW with working from home some or most of the time (hybrid).

The role 

We will need you to take a lead on evaluating the impact of each phase and use that information to shape the next. The campaign will have both online and offline activity and lots of moving parts, so you’ll need to be comfortable working in a fast paced environment.

You will:

• Work collaboratively across Scope to deliver our general election campaign, and help us make sure disabled people’s voices are heard by Government and politicians.
• Work closely with our National Campaigns Officer, and manage our Campaigns Assistant
• Play a key role in the delivery of the campaign, from developing assets to determining the best tactics for each phase.

We are looking for someone that is passionate about disability equality and understands the role businesses play in creating an inclusive society.

You:

• Have in-depth knowledge of campaigning tactics and be comfortable developing and delivering campaigns strategies.
• Should be able to manage multiple projects and priorities whilst working collaboratively. 
• Understand the UK political system and how to influence it, and be able to make complicated information clear to others.

We are looking for social media officer to support the Health Equals team to deliver an exciting programme of campaigning work.

The post holder will play a crucial role in helping Health Equals to build its online presence and following, supporting its objective to raise awareness of how our health is shaped by the building blocks of health. As well as driving engagement to our public campaigns, the successful candidate will lead on creating and curating compelling evidence-based content from Health Equals members.

The social media officer will be adept at finding opportunities to reach broader audiences, to amplify messages, build relationships and engage in debates in innovative ways with opinion formers and influencers online.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of our current team of 11 working across:

• Content creation, scheduling and channel management. This will include creating impactful written social media content, tailored across Health Equals social media channels.
• Monitoring social media, including identifying opportunities to build awareness of Health Equals, our members and our campaigns.
• Track, analyse and report on social media metrics to assess the performance of our content, and use insights to make recommendations for improvement in engagement and reach.
• Work to develop our online community engagement and influencer outreach.

Health Equals is a 5-year multi-million pound campaigning initiative developed as part of the Health Foundation’s aim to improve health and reduce inequalities. 

We aim to develop a campaigning movement that calls on the general public, policy makers, sector leaders, and the private sector to recognise the value and benefits of good health for all, and make sure the things we know shape good health are at the heart of policymaking and practice. Our vision is a society that values everyone’s health, where each of us has the best chance of a happy and healthy life, no matter where we are born, and wherever we work and live.

This role will work closely with the Senior Communications Manager, Policy & Membership Manager and Digital & Brand Manager.
