We are looking for an experienced senior manager to lead our strategic communications, external engagement and network development. The post holder will champion The Politics Project’s mission, strengthen its profile, and foster partnerships that help empower young people.

The Politics Project supports young people to use their voice by providing them with outstanding democratic education. We work with young people, teachers, youth practitioners and politicians to help them learn, teach and engage in democracy. We are a non-partisan organisation working across the UK. 

ABOUT DEMOCRACY CLASSROOM

Democracy Classroom is a partnership of over 100 civil society organisations from the youth, education and democracy sectors working together to support young people to engage in elections and democracy. 

The network is supported by the Democracy Classroom Platform, which brings together over 1000 free educational resources for teachers and youth practitioners.

Democracy Classroom is a non-partisan, UK-wide initiative and a leading voice for the sector, reaching teachers and youth practitioners in 95% of the UK’s parliamentary constituencies. It coordinates the collective voice of organisations committed to democratic education, including through its joint submission to the Department for Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Review and the publication of The Roadmap to Votes at 16, a collaborative vision for the implementation of Votes at 16.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Communications and Networks will amplify The Politics Project’s voice, build strategic partnerships and strengthen collaboration across the youth, education and democracy sectors. You will lead on communications, stakeholder engagement and the continued development of the Democracy Classroom Network.

You will oversee a team responsible for communications, partnerships and events, providing leadership and guidance to ensure clear messaging, impactful storytelling and strong, coordinated engagement across the sector. The post holder will combine strategic thinking with strong operational delivery, managing both the external profile of the organisation and the networks that underpin its reach and influence.

Key responsibilities include:

Communications

• Develop and lead The Politics Project’s communications strategy to raise visibility and strengthen reputation.
• Ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels, including website, social media, newsletters and press.
• Lead media relations, drafting press releases, handling journalist enquiries and identifying media opportunities.
• Monitor and evaluate communications activity to measure reach, engagement and influence.

Partnerships and networks

• Work with the Partnerships Manager and Director to cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders across civil society, government, education and youth sectors.
• Oversee the day-to-day running of the Democracy Classroom Network, including partner communications, newsletters and database management.
• Create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between organisations, policymakers and institutions.
• Oversee the Democracy Classroom Platform and ensure it continues to grow as a trusted resource hub for teachers and practitioners.
• Act as The Politics Project’s representative and ambassador at external meetings, conferences and events.

Leadership and management

• Lead and mentor the communications and networks team, including line management of the Partnerships Manager, Communications Lead and Programme Coordinator.
• Manage relationships with freelance designers, illustrators and developers.
• Oversee evaluation and monitoring of communications and network activities, producing reports as required.
• Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively for communications, campaigns and events.
• Contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning and cross-programme collaboration.
• Carry out other duties as required in support of the organisation.

This is a fast-paced senior management role in a small but growing organisation. The post includes a six-month probation period and is fixed-term until March 2027, with the potential of extension depending on funding. Occasional travel within the UK and some evening or weekend work will be required.

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced communications and partnerships leader who is passionate about democratic engagement and young people’s participation. You will bring creativity, strategic insight and strong relationship-building skills to strengthen The Politics Project’s profile and expand the Democracy Classroom Network.

You will have a track record of managing people and projects, developing communications strategies, and building collaborations across complex stakeholder landscapes. You will be confident in navigating the intersections of education, youth engagement and democracy, and able to balance strategic oversight with hands-on delivery.

Above all, you are a strong leader, communicator and collaborator who can inspire others, think strategically, and deliver tangible results in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

In accordance with our Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check that will be provided.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Proven experience in leading communications, external engagement or partnership functions at a senior level.
• Experience managing and motivating teams, including staff and freelancers.
• Demonstrable success in developing and delivering communications strategies that raise profile and influence change.
• Strong understanding of press, media and digital channels, including social media campaigns and storytelling.
• Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible content.
• Proven ability to build and maintain networks with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, policymakers and funders.
• Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of data and metrics to evaluate communications impact.
• Confident public speaker and facilitator, able to act as a credible spokesperson and ambassador.
• Proficiency in digital communications tools (social media platforms, email marketing, CMS, analytics tools).

Desirable

• Experience managing networks or coalitions across multiple sectors.

· To manage the delivery of Young Marketeers in Plymouth in four primary schools

Background to School Food Matters

School Food Matters (SFM) exists to teach children about food and to improve children’s access to healthy, sustainable food during their time at school. We provide fully funded food education programmes to schools. Our experience delivering these programmes informs and strengthens our campaigns, bringing the voices of children, parents and teachers to government policy.

Young Marketeers

This much-loved programme was started in London in 2012. It is now running in 16 cities across England and is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for three years.  The programme provides hands-on opportunities for children from primary schools to grow fruit and veg from seed to sell at their local market. Young Marketeers is also a platform for School Food Matters to promote food education to schools and communities as a way to support children to live happy and healthy lives.  Children learn the art of growing veg from seed, and market traders will share their secrets on how to create a winning market stall.  Primary schools will be visited by our gardener in March/April and then again in May/June and receive further tips on how to ensure a bumper crop. And in July, they head to the market to sell their produce, and to meet the mayor!

Key Tasks include:

· Assist with recruitment of four schools to take part in Young Marketeers

· Build and maintain relationships with teachers, teaching assistants and senior leaders to ensure the smooth running of the project

· Build and support relationships with contacts in partner organisations

· Schedule, organise and deliver

o One assembly in each school

o Two food growing sessions in each school

o One market trader training session in each school

o Market Day in the city centre in July for all schools

· Maintain accurate records relating to the programme

• Complete monitoring and evaluation forms in accordance with instructions from our Evaluation team
• Take photos of workshops and events where possible
• Keep Project Coordinator fully updated on progress

We are looking for a dedicated Partnerships Manager to join our passionate team of fundraisers. The successful post-holder will drive new partnership opportunities and develop long-standing partnerships for both Mental Health UK and Rethink Mental Illness. 

With extensive experience in charitable corporate partnerships, the Partnerships Manager will use their creativity and innovative skills to develop and deliver sector-leading partnerships at both mid and high value level and undertaking specific income generating and comms projects in relation to flagship partnerships. We’re recruiting an interim Head of Retention Marketing and Customer Journeys on a 12-month fixed term contract to lead a key transformation project.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing the second-largest income stream at the BHF, from our existing donor base while delivering adoption of the Adobe marketing stack.

You’ll lead the adoption of  Adobe Campaign and CDP in the Retention and Customer Journey Team, coaching the team on developing data led strategies to inspire support from our customers to power lifesaving research, taking them on a cross channel journey to drive greater engagement with our cause and working with our Digital Teams to bring these journeys to life.

Managing income across our loyal regular giving base, our new lottery player base as well as our cash donor, raffle (Give Help) and retail, volunteering, event participant bases (Achieve Goals), your objective will be to grow income from our existing customer groups using cross sell, upsell and engagement communications to improve lifetime value, taking a customer centric approach.

This role is also key to to ensuring that our customers know where they can get help from the BHF, be it access to health content, to learn CPR or contact our Heart Helpline (Get Help).

Leading a talented below-the-line marketing team across our Give Help, Get Help and Achieve Goals objectives, you’ll also work closely with colleagues in our above-the-line teams to take an integrated approach to key comms moments.

About you

You’re a strategic marketing leader with a proven track record in customer retention, journey optimisation, and multi-channel growth. You’ve led teams through transformation, embedded new platforms, and delivered measurable impact.

You bring expertise in CRM, product marketing, and customer data strategy, with a passion for customer-centric marketing that drives engagement and long-term value. Experience with Adobe is ideal, but we would also value experience in platforms like Klaviyo, Bloomreach, Intuit (Mailchimp), Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or HubSpot and an understanding of the capability they have to drive personalised marketing

You’ll also bring:

• Strong working knowledge of customer data, CRM, and product marketing, with experience developing retention and journey campaigns across email, SMS, direct mail, and data-led channels.
• Proven success as a people manager, with a track record of delivering change, building high-performing teams, and driving revenue growth.
• Ability to foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders, and experience managing external agencies through complex CRM and below-the-line marketing projects.
• Commercial and financial acumen, including budget modelling and P&L management.
• Experience working with data science teams to uncover customer insights and translate them into actionable strategies—paired with excellent storytelling and briefing skills to deliver impactful, optimised campaigns.

Working arrangements 

This is 12-month fixed term contract covering family leave. Start date ideally in December 2025, although there can be some flexibility.

This is a hybrid role, where your work will be split between your home and at least one day per week, on average, in our London Office. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

As our Copy Lead, you’ll produce outstanding work across print, digital and out-of-home channels, delivering compelling, accessible copy that motivates people to support Shelter or seek our help. You’ll collaborate closely with the Head of Creative and Creative Leads to develop impactful concepts, while also line-managing and mentoring two copywriters. A trusted expert in tone of voice, grammar and messaging, you’ll write, edit and proof engaging content for a range of audiences and platforms. You’ll help shape creative pitches, respond pragmatically to feedback, and ensure all written communications meet high standards and best practice—all while managing a busy workload in a fast-paced, idea-driven environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director-level communications professional with a strong background in knowledge translation of technical information to different audiences internationally. 

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Director of Communications & Knowledge Translation will provide strategic leadership for all Health Care Without Harm Europe’s Communications and KT activities. The Director will lead exciting new digital KT initiatives in line with our new Strategy and as a key part of a small, high-performing team working at the timely intersection of health and the environment. S/he will lead and support all of the organisation’s engagement and communication with target audiences, so that they achieve maximum impact on European healthcare policy and practice in support of the organisation’s mission. 

The post is for an initial 12-month period, at a critical time of development for the organisation’s communications and KT activities. We intend to make the post permanent thereafter, subject to receiving sufficient funding, and we have high hopes that this will be the case.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Strategic Communications Manager is a pivotal new senior role within the team. You will lead the planning, coordination and strategic oversight of RABI’s national communications, campaign planning, media relations and content production, working with the Senior Digital Communications Manager to develop and deliver a bold new internal and external communications strategy for RABI.

With direct line-management of the PR & Marketing Manager and Events & Engagement Manager, this role combines strategic vision with operational leadership to ensure RABI’s marketing, communications, and presence at shows and corporate events is effective, aligned and impactful. You will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications to translate organisational priorities into successful campaigns and provide strategic guidance on messaging, brand positioning, external affairs and delivering impactful community engagement initiatives and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Marketing and Communications, Campaigns and Engagement

• Lead the development and implementation of a new integrated communications strategy that amplifies RABI’s brand and maximises reach and impact across multiple channels.
• Develop tailored media campaign frameworks that align with the charity’s strategic goals, with a strong focus on outcome-driven audience engagement and clear calls to action.
• Ensure all communications – from reactive press statements to flagship campaigns – are underpinned by consistent messaging, high production values and meaningful audience insight.
• Identify strategic PR and community engagement opportunities, overseeing the delivery of tailored campaigns, the Ambassador Programme, and RABI’s engagement at shows, events and community activities.

Press, Media and External Relations

• Oversee all aspects of press and media engagement, serving as a senior advisor on tone, narrative, and positioning, providing clear direction for the PR and Marketing Manager.
• Advise on RABI’s strategic network of media contacts, influencers and industry voices, ensuring RABI is front of mind for journalists across agriculture, rural affairs, health and policy sectors.
• Oversee proactive media planning and press office coordination, ensuring RABI provides timely and effective responses to requests, crisis, and PR opportunities.
• Manage the relationship with RABI’s external crisis comms agency and provide senior input to crisis planning and incident response.

Publications, Content and Branding

• Take strategic ownership of RABI’s publication portfolio, including annual reports / reviews, and newsletters whilst developing new opportunities to engage with our audience.
• Oversee content planning, commissioning and production cycles, ensuring publications reflect the organisation’s voice, values and strategic ambitions.
• Manage external contributors, designers and editors to deliver high-quality and engaging materials on time and on brand.
• Manage the relationship with RABI’s external branding partners.
• Support the development of an annual content map, aligning publications, campaign materials and media outreach into a cohesive schedule.

Thought Leadership, Awards and Profile Building

• Help to position RABI as a thought leader by working with colleagues to identify key moments, themes and sector platforms for visibility and influence.
• Lead the strategy and delivery for industry award submissions, ensuring compelling and evidence-based entries that reflect the impact of RABI’s work.
• Promote recognition of RABI’s successes internally and externally through coordinated communications across media, digital and stakeholder channels.

Leadership and Development

• Line-manage the PR & Marketing Manager, and Events & Engagement Manager roles, providing strategic oversight, mentoring and direction to ensure delivery of high-impact work.
• Foster a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, learning, innovation and accountability.
• Provide visible senior leadership to the wider communications team and act as a key deputy to the Head of Marketing and Communications, representing the department in meetings and supporting executive communications as needed.

Monitoring, Reporting and Continuous Improvement

• Lead evaluation and reporting across all communications work, using data and insights to assess performance and improve outcomes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

• A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or external affairs, with at least 3 years in a senior strategic leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience of successfully delivering complex, multi-channel campaigns across press, digital, and event-led platforms.
• Proven line-management experience, including oversight of senior team members and external contractors or agencies.
• Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale external events or national campaigns.
• Demonstrated ability to build, inspire, and develop high-performing teams during periods of strategic growth or transformation.
• Excellent understanding of brand development, audience segmentation, integrated campaign planning, and stakeholder communications.
• Extensive media relations experience with a proven track record in securing high-profile national and specialist media coverage.
• Experience developing and managing corporate publications, brand collateral, and speech writing for senior executives.
• Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including press, partners, politicians, and sector leaders.
