The opportunity
We are looking for a Communications Officer to play a key supporting role in the smooth running of our day-to-day communications - from managing the social calendar, compiling email updates, to updating website content. You’ll help our small team to continuously improve the quality and consistency of our communications outputs for United for Global Mental Health and its partners.

About you
Our ideal candidate is a dependable communicator who enjoys the day-to-day delivery of communications - planning and scheduling content, creating and posting on social media, drafting newsletters, updating the website, and producing simple graphics and videos. They are organised, detail-oriented, and help keep our communications running smoothly. They will also understand how to communicate across different geographies and audiences, and bring some familiarity with the UN system, as well as experience working in INGO or global health advocacy contexts.
The role
Key components of the role include:
- Social media content development - collaborate with internal subject specialists to produce consistent and frequent on-brand written and visual content for social channels, in support of brand and advocacy goals. You’ll use Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and AgoraPulse for this.
- Email - develop, write and send UnitedGMH’s regular email newsletter, working with internal staff to source news, updates and relevant content tailored for email subscribers.
- Website development - develop, maintain and update content for the UnitedGMH website - including uploading content and editing pages.
- Social media channel and community management - lead on day-to-day management and posting on UnitedGMH social media channels, including X, LinkedIn and Pinterest. Manage paid social campaigns where required. Use monitoring tools to manage social media comments (organic and paid).
- Brand guardian: Be a steward of the UnitedGMH brand, helping to ensure consistent application of visual identity and tone of voice across all external organisational outputs, maintaining high standards of design.
- Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting - create regular analytic reports for social, website and email channels.
- Editorial planning and communications calendar management - lead on the maintenance of the organisation’s communications calendar, ensuring content across channels is planned-in-advance of key advocacy moments.
- Team support - support the communications team through project management, meeting management, processing supplier invoices, keeping journalist lists up-to-date, and other responsibilities where needed.
- Ad-hoc support for the Global Mental Health Action Network - you’ll also provide a supporting function as needed for the GMHAN team, including tasks related to website and social management, plus others where needed.
Requirements
- Understanding, and experience in use, of online channels (incl. website content management systems (CMS) such as Wordpress and Squarespace, a broad spectrum of social media platforms and email marketing through Mailchimp)
- An excellent copywriter, with demonstrable experience crafting copy for different audiences - including for social media and email newsletters
- Strong research and proofreading skills, adapted to key audiences
- Comfortable prioritising and delivering on multiple pieces of work against tight timeframes
- Highly organised individual with experience of team administration support
- An understanding of using digital project management tools e.g. Trello
- An interest in mental health, advocacy and international development
- Strong relationship management skills
- Willingness to travel at least twice per annum and more if required
Desirable
- Experience working in an advocacy / international NGO environment within a fast-paced globally distributed staff team
- Demonstrable experience in working with journalists
- A communications-related qualification or vocational experience

Job Purpose
- To lead and deliver Butterfly Conservation’s strategic aims for nature recovery in Scotland, maximising our impact for butterflies, moths and people.
- To implement BC’s objectives through leadership of the Scotland Nature Recovery team, setting and managing budgets, targets and workplans while inspiring and enabling staff to achieve their best.
- To develop and strengthen collaboration with BC staff, volunteers, stakeholders and partners to drive progress on BC’s targeted species recovery programmes, landscape-scale initiatives and wider nature recovery in Scotland.
Main Responsibilities
- Drive delivery of BC’s strategic objectives through designing and managing workplans for the Nature Recovery Scotland team, translating ideas into action and ensuring effective reporting to monitor and share evidence of our impact.
- Lead BC’s species recovery work for priority butterflies and moths in Scotland, setting objectives and driving targeted action to recover populations of some of our most threatened species.

This role will be a key part of our fundraising team, managing a portfolio of trust and foundations with the capacity to give up to £25,000 and the opportunity to assist with major grant funding bids which will enable us to drive forward our ambitious goals.

- Income generation
- Managing a portfolio of Trusts and Foundations to complete funding applications and, working with the Grants and Project Development Manager, to agree an annual programme of grant and trust applications to meet defined income targets.
- Assisting the Grants and Project Development Manager on major grant-funding applications and aligning smaller funds to secure match-funding for larger projects.
- Carrying out prospect research to identify new trust and grant funding opportunities.
- Fund Relationship Management
- Stewarding an agreed portfolio of existing Trust and Foundation relationships, ensuring funder contributions are appropriately recognised and acknowledged and that grant criteria are met.
- Co-ordinating reports to funders, ensuring reports meet requirements and are sent on time.
- Developing new relationships with trust and foundation prospects identified to secure new income.
- Ensuring data on grant income and funders are updated and maintained to a high standard on the Trusts’ customer relationship management system (Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT) and SWT SharePoint.
- Assisting with the administration of the Trust’s Programme Management Board (PMB) and project development documentation, helping develop cases of support and content for funding applications.
- Supporting Wilder Fundraising Strategy
- Highlighting funding opportunities to SWT teams and contributing to funding applications led by other teams.
- Liaising with SWT Finance team to ensure grants are properly recorded, allocated and spending tracked.
- Providing additional support to the Fundraising & Marketing Team (F&M) and other SWT teams, as required and agreed with your line manager.

About Rockinghorse Children’s Charity
Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports sick and disabled children across Sussex. We support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.
We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors and nurses to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families – the lifesaving medical equipment, the support for parents and families, the toys for children spending time in hospitals across Sussex, the environments and spaces that help children feel more at home when they are in hospital and additional staff to make sure children get the best possible care when they are unwell.
Originally set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, we have been supporting children for nearly 60 years, and in that time, we have supported nearly a million children and their families. As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, including the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we work with the NHS, charity partners and the Sussex community to ensure children can be children no matter now sick they are.

About the role
We are looking for someone to manage the fundraising income streams across a broad range of fundraising activities (including challenge, community, and corporates) with the guidance of the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships and in line with our organisational strategy.
You will be a driven and articulate individual looking to support the whole fundraising team. We are looking for someone who can multitask and manage a wide range of new and existing supporters. Under the direction of the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships this role will support us to engage a broad range of supporters for example you might be managing our challenge events, expanding our community fundraising offer, or supporting our amazing corporate supporters with their staff fundraising plans. - To work with the Head of Fundraising & Partnerships and the team of fundraisers to implement and develop a holistic approach to fundraising and supporters.
- To manage and advise all supporters with their events and activities in aid of Rockinghorse, to maximise income generated and increase awareness and understanding of the charity and our work.
- To proactively grow and develop new ways for supporters to fundraise for Rockinghorse and engage in our work for children across Sussex.

- Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to match projects to partners, supporters and appeals – to ensure our projects are funded and delivered.
- Work with Head of Fundraising & Partnerships to create case for supports for our projects that appeal to and attract a range of supporters.
- Work with Projects Manager and Head of Marketing & Communication to create and disseminate project updates and communication to ensure our supporters are informed, educated and engaged in our work.
- Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications and project leads to build up a bank of case studies, quotes and stories we can use to feed back to supporters.
Support the charity more widely:
- Represent Rockinghorse at events and networks, building strong peer relationships and sharing best practice.
- To present and speak on behalf of Rockinghorse at schools, colleges, community events and corporate events.
- Model excellent conduct and behaviours in line with the charity’s values and ethos.
- Carry out other such duties as may be required for the purposes of the charity; this will include working during evenings and weekends as required and the postholder would be expected to work flexibly to do so.
- There are travel requirements for this post (covering the whole of Sussex) to attend, put on events and meet with our supporters.
