What we're looking for

We're looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised person local to Swindon to lead our Festival of Trees event over the festive season. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our community supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.

What you'll do

You'll volunteer around your other commitments to steer our Christmas Festival of Trees event, to coordinate the event activity and engage with other volunteers, partners and the public to make the event a success for the community to enjoy and promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! You'll be a valued part of  our Volunteer Community Fundraising Team in Swindon, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit between August and January, a few hours a week. 

What you'll get

We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us. It's also a chance to spend time with like-minded people and make new friends.

The event is already well established and currently housed at the Wyvern Theatre, you'll have a guide to follow, a list of contacts and support from your local Fundraising Manager. We are hoping someone can put their own spin on this event to further its success.

Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Skelmersdale & District Foodbank meets its core purpose by overseeing the management and administration of the charity and ensuring that the foodbank has a clear strategy in line with our vision and goals.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee you will share collective responsibility for the governance of the charity and all decisions made by the board, ensuring the organisation is well run, fulfils its mission, is compliant with charity law and that the charity is open and accountable. 

Trustees ensure that the food bank acts in conformity with its purpose and with charity legislation, and that good governance, best practice policies and rigorous financial supervision are in place. They will be required to work collaboratively, with other trustees and with the staff and volunteers of the foodbank, and other external agencies

Key tasks:

• approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
• manage the charity’s resources responsibly and efficiently, ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk, and do not over-commit the charity
• ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled appropriately
• ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, progressed and evaluated and ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law
• ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to comply with current legislation and good practice, including employment, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection
• prepare for, regularly attend, and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.

• serve as an additional promoter of the food bank in the community, promoting the organisation to key stakeholders and beneficiaries, and present on behalf of the food bank at meetings and conferences as and when required

Your support will play a critical role in helping individuals navigate the complexities of the asylum process and build connections within their new communities.

Volunteer Roles Available

We are looking for individuals to take on a variety of essential roles, including:

• Community Activities Coordinator
  Organise and facilitate inclusive, engaging activities both within the reception centres and in the wider community to foster wellbeing, integration, and resilience.
• Advice & Advocacy Support Volunteer
  Provide one-to-one guidance on asylum procedures, support clients in understanding their rights and entitlements, and escalate cases where needed in collaboration with Migrant Help and AASC providers.
• Wraparound Services & Signposting Volunteer
  Assist asylum seekers in accessing crucial wraparound services including housing support, digital inclusion, mental health, education, and employment advice. 
  Provide effective referrals to legal aid solicitors and community organisations.

 Eastside Community Trust was created in 2020 from a merger of Easton Community Centre, Felix Road Adventure Playground and Up Our Street. These three successful and well-respected charities had always worked closely and share many of the same values and aspirations for the community.

They cover Easton and Lawrence Hill which is an area filled with creative, resilient, unconventional and community-minded people. It is diverse and dynamic with many residents who care for one another and the neighbourhood. 

They are now seeking a new Chair of the Board.

The role will cover:

· Lead and manage the Board, engaging Trustees in governance responsibilities.

· Support and supervise the CEO and act as a channel of communication between board and staff.

· Act as a figurehead and spokesperson for the charity and encourage the Board's engagement in profile raising activities.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

· Strong leadership background, having chaired previous Trustee boards, or equivalent experience.

· A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to work closely with the CEO and the Board to lead the organisation effectively, reliably attending meetings, away days and trainings.

· An understanding of the nature and work of the organisation in the context of the city, and knowledge of issues impacting diverse, inner-city communities.

· Ideally live or work in Easton or Lawrence Hill or with some connection to the area.

The Together Plan is looking for pro-bono support to help maintain and expand our current Salesforce solution. We are looking to develop a long term relationship with a volunteer (or two) from the Salesforce ecosystem. In human healthcare, Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) has become a powerful way to make sure research meets real patient needs. At Humanimal Trust, we’re translating this idea into veterinary medicine through PGIE – bringing together patients (in our case animals, via their guardians), the public, and professionals, to develop best practices.

By joining, you’ll be helping to guide research, so it benefits both humans AND animals.
