Location – This role is both community-based in Middlesbrough, with the ability to work from home as agreed with your manager. There may also be occasional travel to other programme sites (currently Redcar, Cleveland, Stoke-On-Trent and Scotland) or travel to our London office.

About you

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate the following: 

• Significant experience in a communications role, including experience with copywriting and content creation. 
• Experience producing high quality, clear, compelling and audience appropriate content for a range of platforms.
• Empathy, cultural awareness, and sensitivity when communicating with and about communities whose voices and experiences are often underrepresented, including those with English as an additional language or limited literacy in English.
• The ability to clearly demonstrate our impact and inspire collaboration among our partners and stakeholders by sharing compelling and meaningful stories.
• Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the local community, including its strengths, needs, and challenges. 
• Strong knowledge and skills in Adobe Creative Suite such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop or Canva.

• Support effective communications with stakeholders across sectors including community, health, education and local organisations. 
• Develop and produce compelling, audience focused content for a range of channels, including newsletters, case studies and promotional materials. 
• Work closely with the Head of Communications, Programme Leads and colleagues across the organisation to align communications priorities with programme and organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement integrated communication plans and campaigns to support EJF’s campaigns around the world

• Ensure impactful and consistent coverage of our campaigns, and the issues they cover, in high-profile ‘gatekeepered’ media outlets

• Prepare press releases and media packs for report launches and external developments, ensuring both proactive and reactive coverage

• Respond swiftly to media enquiries

• Research and actively engage media contacts and outlets, remotely and in person, to increase EJF’s reach, building a database to record and evaluate this outreach

• Work with our communications team around the world to develop coordinated media strategies across geographies and languages

• Evaluate and report on our press performance, making recommendations for ongoing improvement

• Create engaging and impactful content for our various communication channels. This includes writing op-eds and blog articles on core EJF campaign areas

• Uphold the highest standards of scientifically rigorous but engaging writing at all times

• Host press briefings at events with external stakeholders

Essential skills and attributes

• Professional fluency (including excellent writing and editing skills) in English and Spanish

• At least 3 years of experience working in communications, a press office, journalism or similar, with a particular focus on placing stories with, or writing for, high-level traditional media outlets

• Knowledge of media relations, developing communication materials, writing content for different channels and developing social media campaigns

• Experience of and confidence in dealing with journalists from different types of media to ensure effective coverage

• An effective knowledge of the media outlets read by political decision-makers internationally, and how to place articles in them

• Excellent copywriting skills, including under time pressure, and the ability to identify a good story, linking current affairs to EJF campaigns

• An exceptional level of creativity and drive to seek out new opportunities to promote EJF’s work

We are looking for an all-round Communications Manager to join our small team.  You'll be able to build on your existing experience with some exciting upcoming projects that will have direct impact on the head and neck cancer community – as well as generating awareness across the general public.  We have a unique opportunity to develop our organisation to create maximum impact for head and neck cancer patients and their families while staying true to our origins.  There’s a lot of work to do.

Main responsibilities and duties:

• Contribute to a PR and communications strategy in conjunction with our Executive Director.
• Produce and rollout a new brand identity for the organisation.
• Manage and develop a new organisation website.
• Maximise media opportunities by identifying news angles and producing stong stories.
• Produce high quality materials – written, digital and visual – to promote the organisation and engage audiences to action.
• Use case studies and impact to develop our storytelling and create compelling copy to encourage financial support.
• Oversee literature production to support head and neck cancer patients and their families through their experience and work towards PIFtick accreditation.

About the role

The Regional Communications Officer role is an exciting and varied opportunity to work with Emmaus communities across the South of the UK, helping to raise their profile and engage supporters.

You will work closely with up to four Emmaus communities to identify their communications needs and deliver a mix of activity to help them achieve their goals. As part of a wider team, you will also share ideas and build on each other’s experience to maximise PR, digital and communications opportunities.

This is a hybrid role, offering the flexibility to work from home or from within an Emmaus community.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders will be key to this role. Regular travel to your allocated communities is essential, typically at least once a week, so we are looking for someone based in or around London. You will also attend quarterly team meetings, usually held in Birmingham, although these may occasionally take place elsewhere in the UK and may require an overnight stay.

This is a part-time role, Monday to Friday, with a minimum of 22.5 hours a week (three days) and the potential for the role to be four days a week (30 hours), to be confirmed at interview.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a strong communications skillset and at least two years’ experience in a busy communications, public relations or marketing role. While not essential, knowledge of homelessness and the charity sector would be an advantage.

Creativity and passion are essential. You will have a broad range of communications skills, enjoy seeing your ideas come to life and be keen to continue developing your experience within a national homelessness charity.

We are recruiting for three Funding Officers, one permanent and two 12-month fixed term contract roles to join our Funding team in Wales.

You will join our friendly team and work alongside our colleagues in Wales and across the UK. Depending on your location and preference, you can work from home or a combination of home working and office working in our Newtown or Cardiff offices.

As a funding officer you will assess requests for funding and manage grants using local knowledge, best practice, thematic expertise, and the experience of customers and stakeholders to improve our grant making and inform our decision making. By working closely with people and communities, you will understand what matters to them and where our funding can make the biggest difference.

You will be responsible for supporting local people and communities across Wales, and have a strong understanding of our vision, being able to adapt your approach to the wishes of the people you are working with. You’ll also need to support our stakeholders, helping them to make connections that will help them achieve their goals.

You will be responsible for the pipeline of projects, understanding and responding to the different needs of our customers by providing advice and considered feedback, and be willing to have challenging but constructive conversations. Funding Officers will ensure our grant management and assessment play an effective part in contributing to the Fund’s knowledge and learning as a grant maker. You will manage your own caseload, liaise with grant recipients, undertake project visits, identify and manage risk, supporting organisations to deliver their projects and measure their impact.

In this role you will lead on paid social media activity across Meta and other channels managing

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Media manager to make a real and lasting impact — helping Sue Ryder reach more people at the moments that matter most.

About the role:

• Support the Senior Social Media Officer to develop and maintain our national local and retail social media channels by planning and creating high-quality and engaging content.
• Manage the daily moderation rota across the team, participating in tasks and sharing opportunities for engagement.
• Lead paid social activity across income-generation, guiding the Senior Social Media Officer with their projects and acting as key contact for others.
• Develop and implement a retail social media strategy, with support from the Senior Digital Manager, to enable teams to promote their activities and enhance our national channels Manage our ongoing reporting across organic and paid social media to help us continually evaluate our strategy, ensuring our channels are regularly optimised and using data and insight to inform decisions.
• Deputise for the Senior Social Media Manager in relevant meetings and represent the social media team in agreed project groups.

Essential:

• Demonstrable experience and understanding of developing a social media communications strategy and delivery plans, including securing buy-in from colleagues across the organisation
• Strong line management skills and the ability to influence colleagues from other directorates
• Intermediate level skills in Canva, Photoshop and Premiere Pro (or other image and video editing software)
• Confident using Meta Business Suite, listening tools (preferably Sprout Social) and all social media platforms
• Experience working with PR and Brand & Marketing teams across integrated campaigns
• Demonstrable experience in managing and reporting on a large and busy portfolio of social media accounts across multiple platforms, including excellent knowledge of GA4, Looker Studio and native platform analytical tools
