Friends of the Dales is an independent membership and campaigning charity dedicated to the Yorkshire Dales. We campaign on issues including nature recovery, wildlife, farming, access, housing, transport, climate resilience, landscape management and sustainable rural communities.

Founded in 1981, we are known for our critical and supportive local voice and our collaborative approach to campaigning and influencing policy. We work with partner organisations, local communities, trustees, volunteers and supporters to protect and improve the Dales for future generations.

We also work with the network of National Park Societies and Campaign for National Parks, and we have a strong commitment to widening diversity and inclusion across our charity and the communities we serve.

The Role

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, operational management and external representation for the charity. Reporting to the Chair of Trustees, you will be responsible for delivering the Board’s strategic direction and business plan, growing the supporter base, strengthening financial resilience and ensuring our campaigning remains impactful and aligned with our mission and values.

This is a varied and influential role requiring a confident, collaborative and hands-on leader who can balance strategic oversight with day-to-day delivery. You will work closely with trustees, staff, volunteers, members, supporters and external partners to help shape the future of the charity.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a candidate with:

● Senior leadership experience or aligned and transferable experience and skills in a charity, membership organisation or similar environment.

● Direct experience or transferable experience of campaigning, influencing, advocacy or policy work.

● Strong organisational leadership and operational management skills.

● Knowledge and experience of fundraising, membership growth, partnership working and charity operations.

● The ability to inspire staff, trustees, volunteers, members and supporters.

● A values-driven approach and a strong understanding of, or connection to, the Yorkshire Dales and the issues affecting it.

Experience in a similar setting may be transferable, and we welcome candidates who can demonstrate the skills, insight and leadership needed to succeed in the role.

Working Arrangements

This is a permanent role, offered as either:

● Part-time: 4 days per week, or.

● Full-time: 37 hours per week.

The salary is £50,000 per annum FTE, with part-time hours paid pro rata.

The role is based at Canal Wharf, Eshton Road, Gargrave, BD23 3PN, with some flexibility around working hours and location by agreement. Regular travel across the Yorkshire Dales and occasional evening and weekend working will be required. Ideally, the successful candidate will live in, or within approximately 30 miles of, the perimeter of the Yorkshire Dales.

We offer:

● 22 days annual leave, rising to 27 days after five years’ service, plus English bank holidays, pro rata for part-time hours.

● Additional paid leave over the Christmas and New Year office closure.

● An enhanced employer pension contribution of 5% via NEST.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor developments in education, skills and related policy areas, identifying what they mean for young people and Young Enterprise’s work.
• Support the development of Young Enterprise’s policy positions through research, analysis and evidence gathering.
• Help plan and deliver public affairs and stakeholder engagement activities, including events, parliamentary briefings and meetings.
• Contribute to campaigns that aim to influence policy and raise the profile of issues affecting young people.
• Draft high-quality written outputs such as consultation responses, meeting notes, articles and social media content.
• Support policy networks and relationships, including Secretariat support for the APPG for Financial Education for Young People.
• Work closely with colleagues across programmes, research, communications and fundraising to align policy priorities and messaging.
• Coordinate the practical organisation of policy events, meetings and stakeholder communications. 

A few practical things

• This is a hybrid role, with a minimum requirement to work from our London office in Brunswick Square at least 8 days per month.
• The role involves regular travel to Westminster for meetings and events, and occasional travel to other parts of the UK.
• Occasional evening and weekend work will be required for events, with time off in lieu provided.
• There are no specific physical or manual handling requirements associated with this role.

About the role

As our Social Media Manager, you’ll be responsible for:

• Managing Compassion in World Farming’s UK social media channels, delivering engaging content and effective community management
• Inputting into and delivering the UK social media content, broadcast and engagement strategy
• Developing and overseeing creative social media content, including video, graphics, and live coverage from events
• Monitoring, analysing, and reporting on social media performance to inform continuous improvement

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an experienced digital marketer with proven hands‑on experience in paid media / PPC and email marketing.

You’ll be confident managing campaigns across Google Ads (including Ad Grants) and paid social platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok, with a sharp eye on budget optimisation and return on advertising spend. You collaborate well with creative teams and external agencies, stay ahead of platform changes, and can translate performance data into actionable insight for a range of audiences.

You’ll bring strong working knowledge of Google Analytics, campaign tagging, conversion tracking and audience segmentation, alongside experience delivering email marketing campaigns and automated journeys. You’ll have a good understanding of SEO, landing page optimisation and GDPR best practices, and the ability to write clear, engaging copy across platforms.

Highly organised and collaborative, you’ll be comfortable owning multiple workstreams and combining analytical thinking with creativity. Formal marketing qualifications (particularly Google Ads certifications), CRM experience, familiarity with AI tools, and an interest or background in psychology would be an advantage.

As the Hospice develops our community engagement and supporter base, we are looking for an ambitious Supporter Development Manager to help build sustainable income and partnership relationships to support the Hospice into the future.

This is a key role within the Income Generation team.  You will take ownership of a defined geographical area across South Warwickshire and become the Hospice’s visible ambassador, focused on building sustainable support pipelines across communities, businesses and individuals.  You will work closely with colleagues across the Income Generation team, including retail, to support events, campaigns and supporter engagement to maximise opportunities and build joined-up supporter journeys.

You will be a confident relationship-builder, with experience of developing fundraising or partnership opportunities across local communities.  Your work will help ensure that more families across South Warwickshire can access compassionate hospice care when they need it most.

The Shakespeare Hospice provides compassionate care and support to people across South Warwickshire facing life-limiting illness.  Every year, our services support hundreds of people through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and bereavement.

Now, at this crucial moment in British political history, we’re seeking two experienced Media and Communications Officers to elevate our media and digital outputs as we deliver on an exciting new three-year organisational strategy.

The Communications function tells people who Liberty is, what we do and how they can get involved – helping to shape the narrative of the media debate and influence decision makers. This role requires proven experience of designing and executing high-quality, high-impact media and digital communications plans that reach, engage and persuade target audiences.

Liberty is a small organisation which punches above its weight. The Media and Communications Officers will use their media experience to support the running of our busy press office by being the first point of contact for journalists, drafting responses to media requests, and supporting our spokespeople with interview briefings. They will also help build our profile in the media by forging relationships with key contacts across broadcast, print and new forms of digital media.

Telling an inclusive story about the importance of our rights and freedoms to everyday lives is central to who we are and what we do. The Media and Communications Officers will deliver engaging outputs across social media and our website, adapting core messages across different platforms. They will help bring technical legal and policy arguments to life through creative storytelling that resonates with the public.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience working in a policy role focused on food or related issues (climate, nutrition, health or education). You will have knowledge of the political landscape in the UK and experience working with or in government departments, academia and NGOs on a range of policy issues.

It is an exciting time in food policy, and in this role you’ll have opportunities to work across our national policy portfolio, whether its exploring the link between climate change and food prices, developing our proposition for a Good Food Bill, improving the Healthy Start scheme, or strengthening public sector procurement.

The postholder will manage a variety of high impact activities and outputs that are used to drive forward change across our national policy areas and will work will colleagues across the organisation working in national policy, local policy, communications, events and food business transformation to do this.

Due to the evolving policy landscape, there will be a chance to tailor the role to the interests and experience of the successful candidate.

Job Description:

Management and Strategy

• Support the policy portfolio of campaigns and projects across our national policy areas, including on food prices and food inflation, our Good Food Bill campaign, Healthy Start and early years.
• Work closely with the Policy and Advocacy Manager to develop and implement project plans and deliverables across these areas
• Maintain a careful record of our policy impact according to our agreed metrics within our Monitoring Evaluation and Learning framework.
• Policy and research
• Synthesize evidence for and play a significant part in the development of position statements/briefings/reports, working closely with the wider policy team and our designer.
• Support the Public Affairs lead to develop policy products for use in parliamentary engagement.
• Working closely with our Research Lead, identify evidence gaps and policy research questions which are relevant to our policy work to support new positions and generate new ideas for research or evidence collection which help achieve our policy goals.
• Work where needed with external contractors in the delivery of specific pieces of work, setting clear expectations and holding them accountable for delivery.
• Stakeholder engagement
• Develop and maintain a strong civil society network of stakeholders, working to broaden the support base for specific policies.
• Participate in coalitions of organisations who are campaigning together on specific areas of policy change.
• Develop and maintain relationships with junior civil servants in key departments across all policy areas.
• Work with the Citizens Engagement Manager to identify opportunities to bring Adult and Young Food Ambassadors into policy activities and research.
• Represent the Food Foundation and present our work in external events and meetings with relevant audiences and the media.
• Budgets and fundraising
• Administer grants which support our projects and ensure that funders are kept well informed, receive timely reports and that budgets are kept on track.
• Maintain good relationships with funders according to their requirements and provide input to proposals and funding bids.

Communications and campaigns

• Develop a comprehensive approach to dissemination of our policy outputs so they reach our intended audiences.
• Act as a local/regional media spokesperson, brief journalists, and respond to media queries.
• Contribute policy and evidence expertise to support campaign delivery.
• Contribute policy expertise to press releases, newsletters, web copy, podcasts and blogs.
• Support the maintenance of website pages related to project areas.
• Draft social media posts and newsletters.

Personal Profile

Technical skills:

• Knowledge and understanding of the food system, food and nutrition and/or health policy and policy levers for change.
• Strong knowledge of the mechanics of the UK policy-making landscape, including the workings of Westminster and Whitehall.
• Proven experience in synthesising evidence and using evidence to make a case for change.
• Proven experience in writing reports and briefings for different audiences, with the ability to explain complex and highly nuanced subject matter in plain English.
• Previous experience working in a policy role, refining policy asks and communicating these with different stakeholders
• Excellent analytic skills and close attention to detail.

• Proven experience in budget management, project management and reporting to funders.

We are looking for an all-round Communications Manager to join our small team.  You'll be able to build on your existing experience with some exciting upcoming projects that will have direct impact on the head and neck cancer community – as well as generating awareness across the general public.  We have a unique opportunity to develop our organisation to create maximum impact for head and neck cancer patients and their families while staying true to our origins.  There’s a lot of work to do.

Main responsibilities and duties:

• Contribute to a PR and communications strategy in conjunction with our Executive Director.
• Produce and rollout a new brand identity for the organisation.

• Maximise media opportunities by identifying news angles and producing stong stories.

Main purpose of the job

This role is a central part of the Student Activities and Communities Department, working collectively with colleagues to deliver UoGSU’s work in engaging our student groups, societies and delivering events. High quality student-led events

JOB PURPOSE

The role of the Policy and Public Affairs Manager is a high-impact role, central to designing and delivering Magic Breakfast’s national policy and public affairs strategy in England. The role holder will lead the development of evidence-based policy positions and work collaboratively to drive forward strategic, integrated and impactful advocacy campaigns to successfully influence decision-makers, policy change, and funding frameworks aligned with our key objectives. Specifically, you will also lead the design and implementation of our new workstream to expand school breakfast provision to secondary schools and early years settings, alongside our work to ensure the effective implementation of the Free Breakfast Club Programme.

More broadly, you will keep abreast of political developments relevant to Magic Breakfast - proactively identifying opportunities to respond, influence and shape the debate across the school food system and provide strategic, analytical and timely advice to the Senior Leadership Team.

Using your excellent communication skills, you will be able to translate complex policy into tailored and effective communications, policy briefings, positions and submissions, and will play a lead role in confidently engaging external stakeholders including UK Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, special advisers, officials and sector partners.
