As Digital Marketing and Social Media Officer, you will play a vital role in
growing the online presence of Weston Park Cancer Charity and deepening
engagement with supporters, clients, and the wider public, ensuring our
message reaches the right audiences in the most effective ways.
You’ll have prime responsibility for managing our social media channels,
supporting the rest of our Marketing team to create digital content and
campaigns that raise awareness, promote fundraising, and share the stories of
those we support.
This is a hands-on, creative role that would suit someone passionate about
social media, digital marketing, and making a difference in the lives of others.
This role will:
• Support the develop of and implement social media strategies to
increase engagement, reach and donations.
• Have prime responsibility for the charity’s social media channels
(Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok), ensuring consistent,
engaging, and mission-led content – planning, scheduling and
publishing content.
• Manage the digital marketing content calendar and coordinate content
with the Marketing team.
• Create a variety of digital content, including graphics, videos, reels,
stories, blogs, and animations.
• Monitor and, where appropriate, respond to, and engage with followers
and messages, providing a warm and professional tone, ensuring
messaging is in line with the Weston Park Cancer Charity tone of voice.
• Coordinate paid social media campaigns using Meta Business Suite.
• Track performance metrics and provide reports on engagement, growth,
and reach, making recommendations for improvements
• Collaborate with the Marketing team to create, develop and execute
digital marketing campaigns for awareness, fundraising, and service
promotion.
• Assist with keeping the charity’s website content up to date
• Assist with email marketing campaigns and manage the charity’s regular
e-newsletter using tools such as Mailchimp.
• Assist with Google Analytics and Google Ads.

We are looking for someone who understands the energy sector and the unique role that a community energy group can play in the energy transition. It is a role for someone who can imagine community solutions to energy sector issues and to translate these into fundable projects.
Your role will be to work with our board of Directors and staff to come to an understanding of our mission and values and our strategic priorities and develop and resource projects that will enable us to meet those priorities filling gaps in provision. In a practical sense, you will work with stakeholders e.g. our staff, our members, local community groups, local authorities and clients to generate ideas for future projects. The direction of travel should be broadly determined by our recent strategic review.
You will work closely with our CEO and our Board of Directors to prioritise project ideas. You will develop partnerships, refine project ideas, identify sources of funding (Trusts and Grantmakers, Corporate Giving), draft bids and cost delivery on a full cost recovery basis, submit bids and if funding is awarded, mobilise the team to deliver the work. This role provides a big and exciting challenge for someone who knows the energy sector, understands the opportunity of community and grassroots solutions, who brings excellent written communication skills and is willing to learn how to fundraise.
Responsibilities:
Grant Fundraising Support:
• Work with the Selce community (the board, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders) to generate new project ideas that support our strategic mission
• Research and identify potential grant-making trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies that will fund project proposals
• Prepare high-quality grant applications; this includes calculating budget requirements, formulating proposals, writing proposals
• Manage the grant administration process and maintain accurate records of funding opportunities and applications in the fundraising calendar.
Commissioned Work & Tendering Support:
• Assist in researching and identifying opportunities for commissioned work.
• Support the preparation of tender documents and proposals, including gathering necessary information, budgeting and formatting submissions.
• Provide administrative support for contract negotiation and agreement finalisation.
Community Share Capital
• Draft community share offer brochures and associated documentation
• Support the implementation of strategies to raise community share capital.
• Assist in planning and executing share offer campaigns, including preparing marketing materials and organising investor events.
• Help manage investor communications and data, ensuring compliance with cooperative principles and financial regulations.
Develop and Maintain Relationships
• Assist in building and nurturing relationships with funders, commissioners, and community investors through effective communication.
• Support the organisation’s representation at external events and networking opportunities.
Skills & Experience:
The ability to imagine and innovate and thereby build fundable project-based solutions working in partnership with stakeholders is more important that fundraising experience per se. This post would suit an Energy Policy graduate that has experience of either community energy or journalism (and therefore brings strong writing skills) or environmental projects

ABOUT THE ROLE
Variety is looking for a PR and Communications Manager to join our growing team and take responsibility for our communications strategy to support fundraising, programmes and brand activities. It is an exciting time to join the charity as we have laid the groundwork over the last year to improve our marketing and communication channels and have ambitious plans to double our charity size, to fund life-changing practical support for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
We have a new Director of Fundraising and Communications in place who you will work closely alongside, and your work will be across three areas: content creation including the website, PR and social media. Key to success is putting children’s stories at the heart of our communication and you will need to work independently, guiding the Social Media Officer and freelancers, playing a key role in our collaborative and high-performing team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Content creation – identify and gather beneficiary stories and create compelling content for Variety’s communication channels
•PR – develop a network of supportive media contacts and partners to effectively promote our work and proactively target journalists, writing and delivering press releases as needed
•Social media – oversee the social media calendar and have responsibility for the social content and channels. Have managerial responsibility for the Social Media Officer, ensuring content is planned in and comments are monitored with occasional weekend cover
•Interview beneficiaries of Variety, meeting family members, working with external agents (photographers, filmmakers) as necessary to give beneficiaries the best experience while gathering the most relevant information for story telling
•Produce stories with the Director of Fundraising and Communications in the best formats, ensuring brand compliance and accessibility

OVERVIEW
This role will be a key member of our ambitious team, delivering a growing portfolio of fundraising campaigns, fundraising events, and supporter engagement initiatives. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Campaigns & Income Generation
- Work with the Head of Fundraising to plan and deliver our 12-month supporter journey – including fundraising campaigns (online and offline), events and appeals.

- Grow supporter-led community fundraising in the local area.

Qualifications & Experience
- Hold a relevant higher education or industry recognised certification or have a minimum of at least 1–2 years' experience in a fundraising, communications, supporter engagement or similar role

Campaign Development and Delivery
- Plan, deliver and evaluate digital fundraising campaigns, including appeals, donor journeys, social media fundraising, and community giving.
- Produce engaging, emotionally resonant content that is tailored to different audiences and channels.

Website and Digital Content
- Coordinate fundraising content for the Hourglass website, ensuring pages are user-friendly, up to date and optimised for conversion.
- Collaborate with colleagues across all teams to create informed narrative and ensure consistency in messaging and visual identity.
Design and Creative
- Produce high-quality and on-brand graphics, animations and digital assets using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
- Support the development of campaign visuals and branded fundraising materials for use across platforms.
Supporter Journeys and Data
- Build and optimise email supporter journeys using CRM and email tools (e.g. Donorfy, Mailchimp).
- Track supporter engagement using Google Analytics and CRM data, feeding insights into campaign development.

What will I be doing?
Providing expertise in the design and implementation of CRUK campaigns in Adobe
Developing, implementing, and managing data workflows using Adobe Campaign, ensuring campaigns are automated where possible, optimised, and data-driven
Building trigger-based journeys, integrating data points for timely and effective communications
Working closely with the Product Manager to ensure appropriate processes and controls are in place for effective and efficient working
Supporting the end-to-end data selection process ensuring ways of working are validated, captured and subsequently error free
Maintaining a thorough understanding of marketing strategy and advising campaign managers on data selections, ensuring that all groups of supporters are considered appropriately and that we are maximising the value of our contactable base
Mentoring the Data Selections Executive, guiding and upskilling them to deliver accurate selections in Adobe Campaign
Working closely with the matrix team to explore and exploit Adobe Campaign capabilities.

About the role
We’re looking for a senior digital marketing manager – email to jointly lead our team as part of a job share to deliver high performing email campaigns and automations to support the charity’s activity. Working closely together with the other senior digital marketing manager – email, you’ll work across large email projects and campaigns, support the team’s workload and priorities, and create processes to best support their success.

About the role

Terms and Conditions
Salary: Pro-rated salary for 1 day per week, £7,000 to £9,500 per annum (£34,000 to £47,000 full time equivalent) depending on experience plus 3% pension contribution.

Location: Home-working, ideally within the GUCE catchment area from Watford to Tring.
You will need to travel to meet stakeholders, attend relevant meetings and visit potential sites. You may be called upon to work outside office hours.
Contractual arrangements: 12 months fixed term with the opportunity to extend, subject to 3 months’ probation.
There is a notice period of four weeks from both sides
